Cinco De Mayo Mexican Grill

For a place that looks like a hole in the wall the food was amazing. I had a pork burrito with all the fixings and it was delicious with a tonne of flavour fresh salsas were amazing and will definitely go back. The portion sizes are huge as well, bang for your buck.

Tacos are delicious! Excellent customer service. Just as she described it this place is like Subway for Mexican food. You pick the meat and choose your toppings and sauces as they make it in front of you. Wonderful flavours. I had chicken and pork they were out of beef. I would absolutely go back here.

This has really gone down. The service is incompetent. The food is mediocre. I had the nachos for $ 8 and it had almost no toppings. Plus they dumped all the sauce on top making it bland and cold. Go elsewhere.

It’s not glamorous, but for hearty simple Mexican food, it’s perfect. Burritos, quesadillas and enchiladas jam-​packed with all the fillings, including chipotle sour cream and green salsa, if you want it. Great casual lunchtime spot. Come before 12:39 because they tend to run out of stuff like guacamole after the lunch rush

The burrito is tremendous value. Ordered the grande size and it is easily over a pound of deliciousness. The refried beans are really yum (a close second to a hole in the wall mexican cantina on Victoria st. in Vancouver). Everything was well seasoned. My husband had the enchiladas and raved that it was really good as well. He practically inhaled it (see photo: I was just beginning and his plate was almost empty.)
The ingredients looked fresh, the restaurant was clean and the service was friendly, though initially they left us standing a little lost for a while.
A delicious and very filling meal for under $ 20 for two people.

I heard good things about this restaurant and was bored with the usual easy Subway. I came down only to wait 40 minutes to have 2 burritos made with only a family of 4 in front of me in line. They forgot about my burrito while it heated up. The new employee realized this and asked his manager whether or not a severely burned burrito could still be served. She said yes. I was surprised a manager suggested serving poor food, the food wasn’t even that great either. I won’t be back.

Tasty tacos and quesadillas! Lady at the counter has a good sense of humor too! Love it that you could add any toppings u like or even extra chickens. We also had a lovely white colored drink that was really refreshing. Nice quick meal for lunch.

We went here for a quick bite before a movie. Excellent location in that it’s situated beneath the Landmark Theatre on Esplanade. Kinda set up like Subway. Definitely fast food.
The staff were friendly and informative. A big plus for me. I’m a customer service fanatic.
They might want to spruce up the sitting area a bit. Kinda basic and uninspired.
I loved the burrito and my wife found the enchilada to be quite good. Reasonably priced. Great place to get a bite before a movie.

We hardly go there anymore we can’t bare seeing the owner he’s just so miserable has the opposite attitude someone in this type of business should have. We will wait till this new taco shop opens in north van.

I did enjoy the food here, however, the girl who was making the food, was really slow, and by time we got our food, it was cold. I ordered the chips and salsa, as a side, and it was extremely small. If you don’t mind your food being cold by time you get it, it’s not a bad place.

I thought the burrito was decent, but not great. Big problem for me is that this place is not very cost-​effective for vegetarians, with fixed prices irrespective of whether there is any meat or not! They charge extra if you want an extra portion of meat, of course, but don’t charge less if you choose to leave that portion out.

I love the «build-​your-​own» idea for the tacos. Really gives me a chance to customize and have some fun.
Went vegetarian this time, for a change, and had to control myself from going back for more. I ate three; two black bean and one black bean, consuming them joyfully in five bites each.

Absolutley amazing! You must try this place. Truly the best restaurant in Vancouver! Just delicious food at a great price!

We went right when they opened at noon, I’ve tried going here a few times but their hours are kind of strange it’s never really panned out. They seemed very disorganized and hadn’t had some of their food delivered yet, probably not their fault, but it just seemed overall kind of chaotic. They did give us a free beverage for our trouble. I’d give them another chance.

I really like this place. Great portions, good quality ingredients and delicious.
A few more sauces wouldn’t hurt them and would give a little more flavour, but they are pretty darn close to a perfect rating for me.

Mexico in North Van!
North Vancouver has a terrible selection of Mexican food restaurants… I’m so glad Ian opened this place. Finally I don’t have to go to Mexico to get a good taco. The beef is tender and juicy always full of flavor. I LOVE the fact that they grill the burrito! Really makes it.

I am so disgustingly full as I write this review that I am actually going to excuse myself to put some lulu’s on. Jeans are not my friend. Excuse me…
Right, that’s much better. Shame on me as I should know jeans are not food friendly. When I eat large amounts of food I usually dress for the occassion– elastic band buffet pants and the BF’s t-​shirt. Game on.
Today I was so hungry I didnt even prepare myself for what was coming.
I went to pick up a couple groceries and decided I did not want to wait for a meal to cook. So it was either peanut butter and jam or Cinco De Mayo.
This place is super fun. If i didnt have an arm full of groceries and laundry in the dryer I would have eaten in. Most girls who eat the amount of food that I do would be self conscious about it. Not me.
I ordered the chicken Enchilladas. Looked quite small at the beginning but it isn’t at all. I kind of wish I tried the pork because I always order chicken. Really I would rather have red meat but you have to save calories somewhere and giving up a beer with the meal is not an option.
The Enchiladas came with a side of salad, rice and beans. It was actually a large meal. It had sour cream and cheese on top. Yes, cheese. I don’t keep cheese in my apartment simply because I eat it. First time for cheese this week means I was drooling as she sprinkled it on my meal.
I walked home and when I finally got in, I couldn’t help but wonder why I torture myself like that? Just eat in!
Frazzled, I grabbed the laundry and put groceries away, then finally dug in.
The food was very good. I do wish I paid for guacamole. Ya, it’s extra. Sigh.
I would say the rice was meh and I don’t typically like corn tortillas. They taste like cardboard and remind me of the gluten free ones. Gross. Bring on the gluten, I want flour tortillas.
Whatever, I ate it all anyway.
I think next time aside from adding guacamole, I will make sure to order the pork burrito, ask for the hot pico de gallio and hot sauce, and probably skip the rice. It’s just filler.
I must mention, they serve pop in glass bottles. Yes! This is so under rated. Pop is so much better in a glass bottle.
Overall the food was tasty and satisfying. I have to admit my fave Mexican Food is still Made In Mexico in Newmarket, Ontario. Ya, I represent.
Kudos to these guys at Cinco De Mayo for offering up quick, fresh food that isn’t a typical sandwich or slice of za. Give em’ a try. If you love the feeling of full as I do, you won’t regret it.

Finally, a decent Mexican place in North Van! I went there for the first time tonight with the boy. He’d been there once before. Both got burritos. Mine veggie, his chicken. Delicious. Lots of flavour (unlike a certain other burrito place on 15^th & Lonsdale). I liked that they toasted the burritos — gave it a good texture and it didn’t all fall apart! Will definitely be back to try more on the menu.

I’m so glad this place is in North Van. We have such awful chain «mexican» fast food restaurants here, that I had almost given up on getting any kind of latin take-​out at all.
I have had both the taco and the burrito combos and they are tasty, cheap, and very satisfying. I know they often get their produce from Lonsdale Quay, and everything tastes freshly made. As an after dinner treat, they also have that yummy salty sweet tamarind chile candy that I buy by the truckful everytime I stop by.
If only they would make horchata, agua fresca, or some kind of champurrado for those of us who don’t like soda… it would round out the authenticity of the meal and make my experience complete.
They get pretty busy sometimes, but it is worth the wait… just chat up the guy who works there… hes a funny character that will pass the time with you and have you smiling!
