Econo Moving & Storage

I recently used Econo Moving & Storage to move from North Vancouver to South Surrey. My estimate of $ 1685 was based on 3 men @ $ 165/​hour for 7.5 hours. On moving day, only two movers showed up plus the owner who spent two hours wrapping pictures with bubble wrap. Because there were only two movers, the job took 13 hours. I was given a final bill of $ 3045 — including overtime and double time after 12 hours. I chose not to discuss with the movers and instead called the office in the morning to dispute why I am paying overtime because of their staffing issues. My bill was adjusted to charge me 2 at $ 165 plus 11 hours @ $ 135 (no overtime). So in the end my bill was still $ 2478 — $ 600 (35%) over my estimate because they were short a man. I must say they guys worked very hard and I have no issue with the work however I take great exception to their final invoice. I chose Econo because their estimate was the lowest out of 3, however the final bill was higher.

I used Econo Moving about 3 years ago and was satisfied with the experience. I referred them to some friends at the time. I had a very bad experience a couple of months ago, when I called back to book another move. After having given all the information on the phone, I was told that they would not hold my reservation unless I gave a credit card. I was driving on the Coquihalla Highway at the time and I tried to explain this to the employee, who just had become «a broken record», going over their policy again and again, not giving me a chance to speak. He had also reminded me that this date was in high demand and he laughed at me when I could not remember the exact address I was moving to. I thought this attitude was quite insulting. To cap it all, he hang-​up the phone twice on me, when I was trying to explain that all I was asking for, was for him to hold it for a few hours, until I could safely give him my Visa. Not really a way to treat a repeat and referring customer!
I immediately called «It’s your move» and had a super experience from start to finish. Really first class and no need to give a credit card upon booking. They assigned a person to my move, who later followed-​up with me, they helped us pack and were extremely professional. Price wise, they were about the same as Econo Moving.
Before writing a negative review, I left several messages for the owner or manager to call me back, they never did.

I’ve been storing there for a while now and have never had any issues with them. Not saying it could never happen, and not saying that I’ve put them in a position where they have had to go out of their way to be helpful. But they have been serviceable and courteous in my occasional dealings with them.
When I had to downsize from a large house, w basement to an appt, I researched storage quite a bit. Criteria were basically, cost & ease of access. I found another storage on SW Marine (Vancouver) that was competitive, but chose Econo because it was close to a gym I had a membership with at the time. The other providers were, at the time, not really competitive for small-​ish storage. Their rates have not hugely moved up since.
Since I have been there, I have no issues with them whatsoever, including forgetting to notify them of a lost Visa card I had cancelled. They eventually called me and I updated the CC #, no fuss.
I’d give them 5 stars if I had really pushed their services, but I haven’t so 4 seems fair for a no hassle, cost-​effective solution to my storage needs.

It has come to my attention that Econo Moving and Storage believes my statements are false and they are *asking* that my review be removed. I am an elite Unilocal reviewer and I do stand by all my reviews and experiences as truthful. Anyone following my reviews can see that they are honest and straightforward.
I do hope whomever has had my items for the last 2 years is enjoying them, I am still trying to purchase and make-​up for all the personal and sentimental items. I am sure it will be found in a crate 25 years from now and it will be like a hallelujah time capsule to that person.
