Edgemont Moving and Storage

I want to thank you for the amazing service that you and Edgemont provided for my daughter’s move from Burnaby to her new apartment in Coquitlam.
She was blown away with the service and professionalism of her entire move. From your personal attendance for the estimate to the loan of the boxes to the friendliness and courtesy of the actual movers. And the best part… under estimate! I have never encountered that before on any move where I knew the details.
Most sincere thanks and compliments on a job not just well done, but excellently accomplished.

I moved with them in October. I guess I should have read these reviews first.
The estimate I got was about 5 hours — actual time 7.5. They sent 2 movers instead of 3 that they normally do — helps to have 1 watch the truck to ensure you stuff doesn’t get stolen! That’s what one of the movers told me.
And it wasn’t cheap, either. And still felt like a lot of work for me — as I was moving boxes up from my storage and my dad was helping to take things apart to speed up the process.
One of the movers seemed to need a break after every item was brought in — so he would tell a story about some move he’d done before. I figure if he’d told less stories, it would have taken less time = less cost to me.
The first impression also was not good — the movers walked into my place and immediately onto the carpet without any regard for my carpets and how dirty his shoes might be! I would’ve thought that would be second nature for a mover to at least ask or consider if that was okay.
Then after the move, when I followed up to ask for an explanation for some of the above items — no response at all from the company. Thus prompting me to spread the word, to hope someone else chooses a different company and has a better, more efficient and cheaper experience.

We had Edgemont pack us up and move us up the coast. It’s kind of a blackmail situation, either you pay them to pack or your items aren’t insured. Since we were moving long distance we chose to have our household items packed by them and insured.
On packing day three people arrived, one complained numerous times that she wasn’t feeling well and had been sick. One poor fellow looked like every movement caused him pain. They started the day well but their pace slowed way down as the morning progressed. I had to leave for an appointment and when I returned at almost 4pm the woman had me sign off that they were done and hurried out. My husband’s office wasn’t packed, mirrors were left hanging on the walls, our bedroom wasn’t packed and items were left unpacked on the patio. Either there weren’t enough people or these packers simply weren’t prepared for the task.
Moving day, movers arrive. These guys were awesome but instead of loading the truck they were now helping me pack up what the ‘packers’ left while loading the truck. So moving day I’m packing and the movers are taking down mirrors and wrapping them in blankets. There were no boxes to put them in. Not their fault, the packers didn’t complete their job.
The next day the truck arrived, our items were unloaded with four items damaged, 3 of which which the movers were quick to point out to us. One item was broken in a box. The best part of the move was the movers themselves, they were professional and respectful.
At the end of the day when it was time to pay we were charged an additional $ 2000 over the estimate. That is a lot of money over what we expected. We thought it could be a few hundred dollars possibly but not $ 2000. Lindsay is either doesn’t have proper experience or she intentionally bids low, either way we felt ripped off.
They weren’t the lowest bid by the way, they were mid-​range so after adding in the additional cost, they were one of the more expensive moving companies.
The damaged items haven’t been repaired yet but have been picked up. The communication with their office is poor, they don’t follow up well.

*Despicable Dispatcher* Consider yourself duly warned… BTW, the google reviews are a stark contrast to the terrible reviews on Unilocal so I think they’ve had all their friends/​family post false reviews.
Their dispatcher was our contact person. He provided our estimate {by phone} telling us he’d been doing this for years when we voiced our concern doing this by phone. Asked us standard questions and at the end of the phone estimate, we booked and secured the date, as he said that date was almost booked and advised to book aspa. He verified all the info, the date & day of the week, confirmed the start time from their location, number of movers, approximate hours required for the job, and hourly rate.
Two days before our move, we called to confirm start time. That’s when the nightmare began. To our shock, he said he had NO record of us in the books, and then tried to say ‘we’ had our dates or moving company mixed up AND that they couldn’t do anything on that day. OMG! Nightmare is running through our minds, panic and disbelief. He then doubles back saying he would see what he could do and call us back. He never called back. We had to keep calling him. He was horrible, always going on about himself saying things like how he personally answers over 100 calls each day and how he was a very busy man. Once he’d finished telling us his phone prowess, he then tried to question us and imply it must be our fault or mistake somehow. Then he quickly became rude and angry, very angry, and started outright lying. It was unbelievable. He exemplified the adage your-​best-​defense-​is-​a-​good-​offense. Thankfully, we had kept notes all the way through so when confronted with all of his numerous changing stories, lies, and blaming of others, he became completely reactive, including yelling and F-​Bombs. He must have cooled off or been told off because he called us back saying he could fit us in, but didn’t have all me movers and so we’d be shorted — in his demeaning tone. So last minute, with no other choice or option but to use them still, {and we’d booked for over five weeks previously}… it was all unraveling hours before. Moving nightmare. And it was all on him, the arrogant, rude, foul mouthed Englishman. Instead of an apology or humility for such a major screw up, not to mention the incredible stress he caused us, he had the audacity to be hostile, like we were idiots who should be grateful. This man has issues; like being a lying delusional inept who lacks any decency or professionalism.
We were over a barrel. No time to book another mover in less than 24hrs. The next day, the actual movers, who were very nice & hard working, were heard saying that «Tooley» (the dispatcher’s nickname?) had screwed up {again} and lost our booking info. The movers knew it had been badly estimate and they were working hard to make up in time with a shortage of manpower. Their main-​man was rude, inept, and completely unprofessional. And if anyone thinks ‘what do you expect from movers?’ I would disagree. We’ve had many courteous professional movers over the year from many moves. This company needs to take out the trash, starting with their their dispatcher. Shame on you for putting people through such stress AND for having this man represent you. EPIC FAIL Edgemont. You earned every bit of this review!

Extremely disappointed with this company. I moved with them last year and was quite please with the service. This year was same move (two bedroom to two bedroom) with similar load of furniture. This year they sent three movers as opposed to two. One appeared to be injured and didn’t do any heavy lifting. Another was very young and inexperienced and the third was not very strong. This year the move took nearly three hours longer with three movers and the move was a shorter distance. They broke my dresser because they didn’t take the drawers out and tilted it on its edge and decided that after a failed attempt at getting my sofa up the stairs it was a good time to go to A&W for a second break of the day rather than phoning me. At the time of payment I felt bullied into paying the full amount and even though I phoned the supervisor was brushed off. Will attempt to phone again to reconcile but overall it was the worst moving day I have ever experienced.

I used this company last year to move from North Van to New West. The service was impeccable and very professional. The Movers were on time and efficient. My TV got broken in the move but the company followed-​up and quickly replaced it.
I definitely recommend their services and I also appreciated the fact they came to do an in-​house estimate –most moving companies don’t-.
