North Vancouver Hotel

As an experienced and easy going traveler, I expected there to be zero problems for a quick night’s rest before heading up to whistler.
Unfortunately, the baseness of the motel was only surpassed by the baseness of the owner’s manners.
Being rude to customers is not a good idea when representing a motel like this one. What is going to bring them back? The smelly rooms? The old worn down accommodations? The tiny overpriced breakfast lacking basic food groups, such as fruit or yogurt?
If I have to stay in this area again (which I hopefully will not), I will save myself the trouble and spend the night at the Travelodge, or a tent, or in my car…

My family was staying here while traveling through Vancouver. We got two rooms for 5 people. One of the rooms smelled strongly of smoking and chemicals (we asked for non smoking) in the other room we found a small bug crawling in the sheets. Very offensive owner. When my family (party of 5 booked two rooms through Expedia) tried to get breakfast, the owner yelled and demanded to see breakfast vouchers. Even after showing vouchers seemed disgruntled.

So it’s our first time to visit Canada, we got recommend for this hotel by a family friend. Great hotel awesome service and great location as for the reason we don’t give it a 5 star was due to us asking a simple question to get the sheets changed in front of us and he refused he kept insisting the sheets are clean and etc so we let it go and went with his word as soon as we got into our room we inspected it and what not to find filth behind the bed and the sheets had fresh chocolate or peanut butter on it. That was a big disappointment knowing we took the guy from front desks word. I really hope they change things up because it can be a 5 star hotel! First impression is always a must. Our first night in and besides the little things we would still come back hoping for some improvement.

We had a great stay here even when they had a power outage. Subir, who was there when we checked in, was so welcoming and accommodating. We landed late and arrived around 11pm at night and this part of Canada was experiencing a pretty big storm. A fallen tree cut off power to some parts of the city, and it just so happened that our building with this hotel didn’t have electricity. However, one outlet DID have power, so we had one lamp on :)
We thought we were going to camp in Squamish, so we brought headlamps and some solar powered lanterns. Luckily we brought those because we ended up using them. There wasn’t any warm water, but I guess they fixed it early in the morning. We were able to take a warm shower in the morning.
Anyway. Great and friendly service. Subir said he would be there all night into the early morning to make sure all guests who had to leave for any reason could get back into their rooms. He also said we’d be getting a discount because of the inconvenience. And, he gave us coupons to the Capilano suspension bridge, THANKS!
The room was clean and nice. There’s a coffee maker, tv, mini fridge, heater, shampoo/​conditioner, and hairdryer!
Good location, I felt safe. Easy to navigate straight to Squamish and close to the Capilano suspension bridge.
If we were staying in Vancouver, we’d stay here again.

Definitely a motel. But our room is clean, free wifi, fridge, microwave. The clerks were very nice and informative. The floors are tile, but clean. Pets are allowed. Haven’t tried breakfast. The traffic is bad vining and going over the bridge. But it’s a good value if you have a cat. That way you can go when and where you want. We would definitely stay here again.

This is not the most glamorous hotel, but it does the job if you are on a budget. It is advertised as a hotel, but to be honest, the setup of it is really more like a motel… they have various little buildings and all the room doors face outside towards the parking lot. However, I will say that the rooms are clean and functional, so you won’t hear any complaints from me about that. They also provide you with free breakfast, which is a nice touch, but uh… well, let’s just say, it IS free, so you get what you pay (or don’t pay) for. They offer some hot food i.e. sausages (they were okay) and eggs (pass on these, I thought the taste and texture were weird), as well as oatmeal. Their pancake making machine is pretty cool and churns out some decent pancakes. They also have like bread and muffins and other pastries which are probably just store bought. In terms of other amenities, it is a bit limited — there is an outdoor pool (kind of awkward because it’s right by the parking lot aka everyone looking out their windows can see you lol) but no gym facilities. Location is pretty good because it is pretty much right by the Lionsgate Bridge, so it’s super easy for you to drive across to get to downtown Vancouver. Parking is free. In the end, it wasn’t a bad experience here, we stayed here for four nights and had no problems — it would just be nice if the name wasn’t so misleading (i.e. hotel vs. motel.)

It’s one of the cheaper options when you do Vancouver, but it tries to mix upscale with casual, which doesn’t work all the time. Enter the Vancouver Hotel in North Vancouver.
I’ll try to be nice about it, but a hotel it’s trying to be, it ain’t. At least, not a full service 3 star minimum hotel. I was here for one night during my 5 night stay in Vancouver, BC. After crossing the land border with USA, I headed over here to relax after a long day of traveling and sightseeing. The photos of the hotel at
we’re inviting and the prices were decently good at under $ 90/​night CAD, so I booked this hotel. I was here on 04÷30÷15 and received a room on the 1^st floor in a building adjacent to the hotel lobby. In fact, the North Vancouver hotel boasts 4 buildings with hotel rooms. They also have a swimming pool, but was off limits. The stay here was short and sweet. It’s comfortable for what it provides and the amenities are adequate.
What it’s not is a Sheraton or a Hilton. You could tell of the price per night offered on
. If you are offering under $ 100/​night CAD, you’re going to attract the budget friendly clientele, which is myself included. The north Vancouver hotel’s room reminds me of a Days Inn brand, but in The Canadian atmosphere. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great for those who are on a budget and needing a place in proximity to the hustle and bustle of downtown Vancouver, but it’s not what you are expecting. The north Vancouver hotel is located at 1800 Capilano Road in north Vancouver — as the name of the hotel implies. The neighborhood that the hotel is situated is basically like a residential area, complete with McDonalds and walmart down the road, I kid you not. They accept major credit cards here, so that’s always a good thing. The wifi is a little spotty, but it had a strong signal.
The north Vancouver hotel had an «executive continental breakfast» each morning, but you’d need to get a voucher from the front desk to be redeemed before heading over to the dining area. I didn’t get such a voucher, so I just found the nearby McDonald’s the next morning after checking out. Not too shabby, but it works. The check in process was the same as the check out process, it was both professionally done. The check out process felt like how it was done in the states, giving your room number and a few clicks later, they send you out and on your way to wherever destination or adventure you may be off to.
The room itself was generally clean and comfortable. The television worked fine. I didn’t use the coffee maker or anything. Just needed sleep after a long days worth of travel and navigating through the streets of Vancouver. There is free parking at the north Vancouver hotel, so that’s a plus, although it’s a tight parking lot to maneuver around. Still, this property serves my needs at an affordable price. We stayed here because it was close to all the things we wanted to do, and the price was right. My dad used to live nearby, and we were on the Grandpa History Tour. Otherwise, we may have buckled up and paid for a hotel downtown.
The hotel staff was friendly. We had stayed a few places on our road trip already, and had a lot of heavy bags to carry. We were able to switch our room from an upstairs (no elevator) to a first floor with no hassle. Another time, my dad had told me to ask them about a place nearby, but he didn’t know the name of it, and was sure the staff would. They did, and we were led to exactly the right place. With an amazingly vague description to go on (thanks Gramps).
This place is not a hotel, it is a motel. The parking lot is small. There is a small pool on site, and the husband tells me that the water was a good temperature. Breakfast was included, but we did not partake. We went to Tour de Feast instead (look it up, amazing!).
The room was small. Not as small as our stay in Victoria at the Arbutus, but not more than a few square feet bigger. Still had to inch the bed away from the window so I could move in and out without opening the curtains.
We only stayed one night. The place seemed a little public to me, meaning «drag all your stuff in from the car». However, overnight I did still manage to leave my camera in the car, and nothing bad happened.
Out of all the hotels/​motels we’d stayed in on our road trip, this was the only place with rather thin walls. Which I didn’t notice, because I wore ear plugs to sleep. My husband did not. Silly.

As others have noted this is a motel, not hotel. Despite that, my wife and I enjoyed a comfortable two night stay here recently. Our second floor room was clean and functional with a fridge and microwave. The bathroom looked to be recently remodeled. Water pressure for the shower could have been better but it got the job done. A flat screen TV was installed in the room but we did not use it as we each brought our own devices. Wireless Internet speed was sufficient to stream Netflix movies to my iPad.
My main criticism would be the breakfast. The food was rather plain and the breakfast room rather small. My wife could not drink the coffee as it was so bad.
The location is close to the Lionsgate Bridge and an excellent base for exploring the Northshore or taking a day trip into downtown Vancouver. The Capilano Suspension Bridge and the Grouse Mtn parking area are just a short drive away.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The price was inexpensive and a good value for what we received. I would stay there again.

I’m not a hotel snob by any means, but I have stayed in far less appealing places than North Vancouver Hotel.
As one reviewer mentioned, technically this is a motel, but I digress. We had a great one-​night stay here on a recent visit to Vancouver and would definitely stay here again. The price was inexpensive, parking was free, the staff were super friendly and helpful, and the room was very nice considering our expectations from reading previous reviews. After check-​in, but before we’d walked around to our room, the clerk came running out to inform us she’d written the incorrect room number on our key card packet. That saved what could have been an embarrassing situation!
Brand new bathroom renovation (tiles, tub, sink, lights), television, and a comfortable & spacious queen size bed. Our room was tucked in the back corner on the second floor, at the end of an outside corridor, so we got some traffic noise from Capilano Rd, but otherwise… no complaints. You can’t really get to any of the sights within walking distance, but if you’re visiting Vancouver and have a car, this place ain’t bad!
The free breakfast wasn’t much to write home about, but I appreciated the blueberry muffins, juice, and gigantic oranges. Sadly, many of the other offerings had been consumed by a college basketball team staying at this location, so get there early or be OK taking a few items to go. While many folks appeared headed for the Capilano Suspension Bridge, I recommend taking a bit of a longer drive to check out the posh homes (and beautiful drive) of West Vancouver as well as the rarely visited Lighthouse Park… a short hike gets you to nice views of the Burrard Inlet.
Overall, a nice experience given what we paid ($ 80). I’d stay here again on another visit to Rain City… beats paying double for staying downtown!

This isn’t a hotel; it’s a motel because the doors open to the outside. While it was quiet, I didn’t mind, and frankly we didn’t spend enough time in the hotel room to really care. But, this is noteworthy because the name may be misleading.
The room was nothing spectacular, though clean, equipped with free wifi, and the bathtub drained properly (a pet peeve experienced at more upscale hotels). There’s a fridge and microwave, if you plan on eating in the room. There are enough outlets for all your charging needs (phone, camera, etc), which is good. The voltage in Canada is the same as the USA.
The owner is extremely nice and helpful. He changed US$ 10 because we arrived so late that money changers were closed, and we departed so early in the morning, that we didn’t know if we could find a money changer in time for the bus. So, the owner gave us enough bus money and advised to find a bank during our journey, which is not only safer, but gives better rates. He was right.
So, onto the reasons why this «hotel» is only three stars and not five (2 reasons):
Free breakfast is always great, but this breakfast isn’t very appealing. The eggs are like gelatin rectangles, so I am not sure what they really are. If you are going to eat breakfast, make sure you’re there early. At 15 minutes prior to the end of breakfast, everything was gone, and there was a long line for cereal. The highlight of breakfast is that dried cranberries or white raisins are provided, but that’s about it. If you are going to take something to-​go on a public bus, note open food is not allowed. So, I’d recommend packing your dried cereal in a coffee cup with a lid (bring from your room).
There is a public transportation bus stop about 2-​minutes walking distance from the hotel. However, the bus, because it only comes from a certain direction, can only take you into downtown, but you can’t get a bus from downtown back to the hotel (strange, I know). Thus, you need to budget CAN$ 25 cash at the end of the night so you can make it back to the hotel.
The hotel room was about US$ 130/​night. US$ 155/​night (which is what you end up spending, including the return cab fare) will get you a nicer hotel in downtown Vancouver, more conveniently situated. Because of this, I would not recommend staying at the North Vancouver Hotel.

We ended up staying here because every hotel was booked this weekend for the Canucks game. Note to self, don’t look for a hotel when there is a game the weekend you’re going somewhere.
I wish we slept in the car instead! This place was NASTY! Dirty, smelly and yucky!
The service is poor, the woman who checked us in was so uncaring and sounded like a robot.
Your best best is the Comfort Inn next door, DO NOT STAY IN THIS ROACH MOTEL!

Horrible experience! The sprinkler in our room went off and they didn’t know how to turn it off. All of our things got soaked including my laptop and ipod. My son was wet and cold and didn’t have any dry clothes to wear. My laptop is completely dead and the manager made a big deal of washing our clothes which were full of dirt because the water in the pipes were not clean. He refused to compensate us for our losses and said we should deal with their insurance guy who said we should deal with our own insurance. I told the manager that I would write a review and he called the cops on us saying we had done this. Over all, this place is poorly managed and not worth it.

I read reviews that this place was convenient to everything. This is not true — it took two buses to get anywhere downtown or touristy locations. In one day I would spend so much on transportation that it completely made the cheap hotel not worth it. Breakfast is mediocre and desk staff was not helpful in any way.

Definitely not a fancy place but we had a comfortable stay at the North Vancouver Hotel. There is some need for updates/​repairs but overall it was clean, the wifi worked fine, there was a microwave and fridge in the room, and the continental breakfast was decent. Staff was nice and the place is pet friendly, which was a big plus.
I’d stay here again!

It’s a great hotel at rock bottom prices in a fantastic spot. I paid $ 70/​night for a non smoking King Bed. Found the deals on Kayak.
Customer service at this place was awesome time and time again. Room was big, with a nice big desk and fridge and plenty of drawers and all that jazz. TV was decent. Only bad thing I can say is the towels are very coarse, seems to be the trend at cheap hotels. Free internet was an excellent addition. Will be going back for sure.

I’m really struggling with the star rating, because I certainly have experienced better– but at the same time this was what it was.
The primary reason I chose this hotel– parking lot, in an area where I felt like my car wouldn’t necessarily be stolen. And in that area it delivered.
It’s also close to the Capilano bridge, which makes this a tourist pit.
The room itself was nice. 2 queen beds (they try to charge $ 10 an extra person– but with the motel-​style rooms, who’s to know?). The washroom is where I start to go yuck. Let me be clear– housekeeping had cleaned it up. The problem is that the building manager needs to go in and renovate. Here’s why: a line along the floor needs new tiles to hide the concrete subfloor, the towel hanger needs a new life, to get rid of the rusting around the screws, the window sill looks like it’s seen better days.
Anyways, I got the place for $ 99/​night, and they are on priceline, so I imagine you can bid for an even lower price. I could have gotten cheaper, and I could have gotten other locations. But it did come down to the parking lot for me.

Hey! Erin! You’re cheaper than I am! It’s $ 150, and you’re in Canada… come on, did you REALLY think you were going to get a ‘hotel’?
I suppose you believe Burger King, too, when they tell you they’re serving a gourmet angus burger?
Nice ‘hotel’ this is not. There is no valet service, no chandeliers, and they don’t put a mint on your pillow.
It was a room and it was cheaper than 90% of the rooms in the area-​if you don’t plan on spending much time there, go for it.

I’m sorry, did I hear «hotel»? Um… more like overpriced MOTEL. When your door opens to the cold North Vancouver weather instead of a nice lobby, it’s a motel… Just sayin’.
So– North Vancouver Motel in a nutshell:

–smoky in a «non-​smoking» room, but hey, $ 30 off if you complain
–lack of lights
–difficult to find an outlet
–cheap, crummy «breakfast»
