the Presentation House’s 2010 – 2011 season opener is «Gutenberg! The Musical!» This hilarious show centers around Bud and Doug, the writers of the best-​ever musical about Johann Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. Since background info is «scant» regarding the life of Gutenberg, they have taken some liberties in bringing Johann’s story to the stage… but they perform 20+ characters and sing all the songs of their opus with such enthusiasm you’re ready to forgive their use of artist license. This is their big chance; the audience is full of potential backers, and they are putting everything they have into it in hopes of finding a producer. Wish them luck!
Recently included in the Province’s list of this fall’s ‘must-​see’ shows, Gutenberg! The Musical! was the hit of the 2008 Vancouver Fringe Festival, and was nominated for several Vancouver Musical theatre awards (and won «best director» for 2008!)
