I don’t sew. But I needed some stuff there today for minor maintenance on clothing. This place has the best customer service I have experienced in long time. Polite. Helpful. I am still getting over the shock of being treated so well in a retail store.

I would’ve given them zero stars but Mala, a sales associate that was truly helpful and lovely changed my mind. Just went in to look at patterns and pick out fabrics that could be used to make flower girl dresses. With a style and colour in mind it seemed like it would be a fairly quick stop. It was not. The Bad I had a hard time getting anyone’s help, the cashier was downright rude, and while I do love the fabric that I left with in the end I was a little disappointed with the lack of solid colour choices at the time. The Great Mala was incredibly knowledable and kind, and answered the questions I had, she was a beacon of light in the dingy fabricland. Also, I must say the prices were pretty great, especially when you compare to the ones you’d find on Queen St.

Fabricland is a staple. It is huge. I often feel overwhelmed when I am there even though they do group fabrics well. They do NOT have silks at this location, but they do have sewing machine weight Guterman silk thread(which is not my favorite). This is an everyday fabric store for 95% of your sewing needs. Most of their crinoline and tulle netting is hidden under the cutting counter or up high on the wall behind it Great selection of novelty fabrics for pajamas and children — including popular characters. I don’t care for most of the staff which are overstretched and aloof, but there is a mature woman who seems to work in the bridal fabric area(not upholstery area) who is FABULOUS. She can answer most of your questions from zippers, to thread, to fabric linings, etc. It is hard to flag someone down to pay, so give yourself some extra time. The left side of the store tends to be for upholstery. They even sell lots of pillow cases. They have some of accessories like shoulder pads and even an adjustable mannequin for fitting. It basically across from Yorkdale Mall on Dufferin, but just a door or two south. Lots of free parking right next to it.

I’d love to give this store 5 stars just for selection and oddball things that I love to ‘discover’. It’s a great store, I’m never empty handed when I leave… but therein we have the problem. Trying to leave. The folks are sweet and chatty and there can be only 1 or 2 people in front of you but it’s going to take some time to get out. Today the front desk was empty for a good 15 minutes! I’m always going to go back because they simply have things I can’t find anywhere else, but I’m going to make sure I’m not in as much of a hurry as I was this morning…

Fa-bric-land… FABRICLAND! I love stepping into fabric stores. My mind starts whirring at a million miles a minute and I feel like I can totally finish that dress that I started a year ago and DEFINITELY sew new curtains and TOTALLY make some cute throw cushions. I walk through the aisles, fondling the fabric and inspecting the wall of buttons. This store is a good size and has home décor items as well as items for clothes. There’s a large section of pillows, hardware for curtains and upholstery fabric. A great spot if you’re handy with a sewing machine and are looking to make some clothes or home décor. I’ll definitely be back once I’ve painted the house and am ready for some custom drapes. I mean, how much trouble can they be? Cut, hem, hammer in hardware… it’ll be a snap!
