okay so I had to wait before I wrote my review because I wanted to ensure I was 100% certain with my thought and not biased. I ran into some of the women who work here at the women’s show a few months ago and had gotten the curl keeper product from them– Janine to be specific(I didn’t remember her name from the show) I was very impressed with Janine’s professionalism, she wasn’t pushy at all and took the time to explain the products to me. I took a business card but their location was a little far from where I used to work and where I live. I was googling top 10 curl hair salons, and this one popped up in my search and then I realized it was walking distance from where I now work so I decided to give them a try — I had called in and to my surprise they had an opening with a intermediate stylist so I decided to take it. When I got to the location I realized it was Janine and I was very happy! Janine was very patience with me, she took the time to not only understand what I wanted but also to explain to me what she was doing and why she was doing it. She took the time to teach me how to curl my hair properly so I could enhance my natural curls. She even promised me that my hair would look just as great straight as it does curly — and it absolutely does!!! Not going to lie, I was very sceptical with that comment because my hair dresser before told me the same thing, reversed though– that my hair would look good naturally as it does when I straightened it — however it never did! overall — I will give Janine a 5 start because of the effort she put in with me. I’ve already recommend her to a few friends, and I will return for another cut in the future.

I would like to make this my ‘go to’ salon. But my word they are SOEXPENSIVE compared to other salons. When I can’t afford a $ 200 treatment with them, i get it done in Yorkville for $ 80. I really am curious as to why they are SO much more expensive then downtown?

I’ve been going to the Jonathan Torch Curly Hair Institute for about 3 years now — and have always been impressed by the service, staff and end product. Having very long, naturally curly hair — this is truly an oasis for those of us who endured bad hair cut, after bad hair cut growing up. The biggest highlight of this salon is the product. It is absolutely magical, and cannot image ever reverting back to regular ol’gel or mousse. Trust me, getting to learn how to use the product and style your hair is well worth the initial trek to North York. With that being said, the location is terrible. Getting there is accessible with a bit of a walk, to and from Sheppard Station — it is just inconvenient. This is only reason I can’t give it a full 5 stars.

I booked an appointment with Hiwot after being recommended by a friend from work. BESTDECISIONEVER. The haircut is fabulous. This place knows what they’re doing, you’re in and out of there in a reasonable time frame, the staff is friendly and helpful, they have great products for curly hair and they tell you what to do to continue to take care of your hair. I will definitely be going back.

I’ve been getting my hair cut here for several years now. I’ve never found anyone better than my hairdresser Ely for cutting my loose, curly hair. I have tried other hair salons & my hair ends up looking horrible. I also like their products which they created specially for curly hair(Curl Keeper & Leave in Conditioner). The cost of a cut can be pricey, but it all works out for me because my hair grows really slowly so I only need a cut about two or three times a year. Btw, they also have an online store where you can buy their styling products & they will ship it to you for free if you spend $ 100 or more.
