My boyfriend and I went with the Ossobuco Gnocchi Poutine. Being Italian, I didn’t know what to expect from it. CAN you deep fry gnocchi? Yes, yes you can. The crispy gnocchi were coated in cheese curds and smothered in braised veal. What a combination. The gnocchi were not heavy, like others I’ve tried. They were lighter and absolutely deep fry-able. The veal melted in your mouth. Instead of gravy the jus from the veal did the trick. If you told me I’d be eating a gnocchi poutine last week, I would’ve said you were crazy. Apparently the Arancini is to die for. At least I know what I’m getting next time!

So I’ve been trying to jump on the food truck bandwagon but I keep falling off all the time, mostly because I find the food too greasy and they want to charge me an arm and a leg for just a small ride(portion). While at Celebration square on Canada Day, there were various food trucks, the likes of which I’ve seen a million times(fg, Smoke’s, Per Se, Beaver Tails, etc.) but I had never heard of Frankie Fettucine. I saw they had 6 selections, which included a couple kinds of poutine(osco busco was one of them), bacon mac n cheese and sundaes. I decided to get the Bacon Mac N Cheese for $ 10 as I just had poutine earlier in the day. This was one of the best Mac N Cheese’s I’ve ever had. The pasta seemed like it was hand made, the bacon was flavourful and the cheese, OMG! This was not your normal cheddar cheese. I think it was Parmesan and it melted so perfectly. I have to say, this is one of the few food trucks I felt I got my money’s worth. Verdict: If I see them again, I will definitely give them another go and hopefully let me ride the bandwagon.

Frankie and Anthony definitely do not disappoint! Was privileged to watch them be taped for the Food Network Eat St. show down at Sherbourne Commons today and they are MUCH deserving of one of the 6 food trucks picked for the show. Today on the menu was their signature dish, the Ossobuco Gnocchi Poutine(which I didn’t sample but looked and smelled amazing!!), the Lobster Truffle Mac ‘N’ Cheese(which I had and I will tell you ALL about it shortly), Fettuccine Carbonara(again the smell and appearance was to die for, I wish I had an appetite to order it all!), Arancini(looked yummy and authentic), and Cannoli(sinfully delicious I believe!). So the dish I chose is what I travelled to try — I’m no Foodie but I do travel for and obsess over the perfect Lobster Mac ‘N’ Cheese! Who would think off a food truck that it would be better than in a restaurant! Huge, tender chunks of lobster, beautiful and flavourful cheese sauce and thinly sliced truffles — I was in HEAVEN! Even if I would’ve have been asked to eat it and talk about it for Eat St. film crew I don’t think I could have — I gobbled it up so fast that it was gone before I knew it! Seriously I will follow this truck whenever the Lobster Mac is on the menu! Come to think of it — I should throw a party just to get these guys to cater it for me, then I can have all the Lobster Mac I can eat! I got a chance to give my kudos to Frankie and Anthony and they were as nice and as gracious as could be! Personable, real, and true lovers of the food they create and serve! Thanks guys and again — Congrats on the selection to be on Eat St… you deserve it!!!
