History

Established in 2004.

River 16 first came to be when singer-songwriter Rob Lackie decided to build a personal studio in a shack overlooking the 16 mile creek. The name comes from a historical painting of the 16 mile creek. The heading under the painting read «River 16», which became the name of Rob’s band.

Rob has been in music all of his life and has toured across Canada, but always made his way home to Oakville. Rob realized that Oakville has so many young and professional musicians and felt that he should build a professional facility to help cultivate the existing and new musical talent.

Construction of the new studio began in 2007 and mayor Rob Burton cut the ribbon at the public opening in April 2009. The live room is over 700 square feet in size and has a warm vintage vibe. George Graves (Toronto mastering engineer; Peter Gabriel, The Guess Who, Rush, Alice Cooper, U2) has commented on its sweet sound. Terry Medwedyk, one of Canada’s finest acousticians helped with the layout of the control room.
