I’ve been eating here since I was a kid. Does a lot of takeout business but I like eating in for a cheap night out. The specials are very affordable and the portions are large. This is a no frills restaurant and what you see is what you get. The owner can be brisk but that can be refreshing if you are hungry and just want your food. Don’t take a girl here on a first date take her here after you’re married.

Great food in Oshawa. One of the most authentic Chinese-American food in downtown Oshawa. I always get the spicy calamari at Hong Kong House and it reminds me of Toronto Chinese restaurants. Service is great when you sit in, and take out is always quick and well organized. Highly recommended if you’re craving that Chinese bite. Try not to judge the restaurant by the dated exterior, the food here is great!

Nice, funny owner. But food made without care. No attention to detail. Dry food. Weird smell from chicken. Somewhat stale rice. I love Chinese food; I’m not normally picky about it but this was disappointing.

My boyfriend really don’t order chinese food anywhere else now, this place is great. The portion sizes are amazing, always leaving left overs at a very low cost compared to some of the other locations and everything is always ready when we get there to pick our food up. Everything is always fresh and we’ve never once had our order wrong. Great experience every time!

I refuse to eat here. Been years! Staff were unfriendly and rather rude and food was not that great! They also had trouble passing a health inspection a year after I quit eatin there.

This was the first time we ordered food at Hong Kong House here in Oshawa, and we were very happy with it. We ordered for pick up and they were very friendly and courteous on the phone. We were able to pick up our order after 15 – 20 minutes and everything was ready when we came. We placed our order at 9:15PM and were happy about their extended opening hours. Our order of the vegetable fried rice as well as shrimp with vegetables were delicious. Simple, great tasting, fresh Chinese food in portions so generous, that we’re all set for next day’s lunch.

Hong Kong House in the Shwa… Downtown Oshawa is on a slow rebound with new arena and courthouse etc adding to the local economy but downtown has looked better and some people might miss eating in this area and there are actually some good spots to try. Hong Kong house has been here through many years of the good and bad in Oshawa and although I have drove by it for years I never tried it until now. The Outside could use some paint but walking in it is not too bad looking, but I was ordering takeout and it didn’t take long to arrive after ordering being ready in about 15 minutes and actually brought outside to me by the smiling owner, as I decided to wait in the car. Everything we had was very good with lots of well cooked vegetables and not a lot of filler(like celery) and nothing tasted oily or overly battered etc. If I was going to give any negatives I would say that I have had better General Tao chicken elsewhere, but other than that well done Chinese takeout and worth a try!

It’s a Christmas Eve tradition that the wife and I get Chinese food, and last night we wound up going down to Hong Kong House. Having lived in Oshawa since June 2007 we’ve never managed to check this place out. And what a mistake. The food was excellent, served in generous quantities, and great value. We had their sizzling black pepper beef, the only complaint I could possibly make was that they brought it out before the rest of our order, otherwise it was well-done, a savoury and peppery sauce and generous amounts of green pepper and onion accompanying. The last thing of note — spring rolls! Unlike most Chinese takeaways or buffets, Hong Kong House featured large, well stuffed spring rolls with shrimp. For under $ 2 I was most impressed.
