Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology

We went to see the second year theatre program students in their first play of the season in the Studio Theatre in Building N. The show is They Won’t Pay? We Won’t Pay! The students were fantastic and I would recommend seeing the show if you get a chance. It was very funny, silly, sardonic and very a propos considering our economic climate at the present time.
If you want to see good regional theatre, then going to the Studio Theatre at Algonquin College is certainly worth the visit. Remember, some day these kids will be the professionals that you see on stage in the big commercial theatres!

I went to Algonquin for 3 years. I took the Public Relations program (2 yrs) and the Event Management Program (1 yr). The profs were fantastic, the atmosphere was wonderful, and the knowledge and skills gained are invaluable.
Please note THE CAFETERIA is my FAVOURITE place to eat on campus. I still debate stopping in for lunch when I’m passing by. There are SO many options. A stir-​fry station, pasta bar, crêpe maker, breakfast bar, salad bar, from the grill. Not only is the cafeteria wonderful, but in just about every other building, there is some kind of smaller version of a caf.
I have thought many times about going back to this school for another program or two, just because I had such a great experience there! And who knows, I just might :)

Let me explain: this review is actually about the restaurant, which I checked into yesterday, using «Algonquin College…» — now I am second guessing myself as to whether I should have added the restaurant, as it didn’t come up in my search.
People, I’ve gotta tell you this: DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS RESTAURANT! We went out in a group to celebrate a special event, and we were 9 people for lunch. We just wanted somewhere slightly different from the run of the mill which we usually settle for, due to closeness to work. Also price is a factor.
Our booking was for 15 minutges to noon, and half of us were on time, the others were about 15 minutes late (It’s from work — sorry! We got tied up!) WARNING: DO NOT go here if you’re in a hurry; rather, you should go when you don’t have to hurry back to anywhere afterwards. The biggest downfall to this event was the length of time it took to enjoy the meal — we didn’t get out of here until about 2:30pm.
However, everything else was on the up side! First of all, it was a prix fixe — meaning it was $ 15.00 and you choose either soup or salad, an entrée from 4 selections, and desert. It’s a reasonably upscale place, with linen table cloths and serviettes. The staff (who are really students, studying culinary things) all wear black slacks and white shirts with a black vest over that. So it’s no slouchy place! I ordered a corn chowder, the fish dish, and a desert called «Napoleon», which must have been popular as they ran out before any of us got any of it. I got the cheesecake instead. The soup was a small cup, and had more potato than corn in it, but it was tasty. Small but good. The fish was outstanding — it was a white fish with an absolutely perfect sauce, and a few veggies and small round potatoes on the side. It could have been a larger serving, but it was so absolutely delicious! The cheesecake was a small round, maybe 2.5 inches, and was light and fluffy, just the right amount of sweet after dinner. But the fish — I’ve just gotta say it again — was truly awesome!
And top all this off with the fact that the management realized we had to wait a long time for the food, so they didn’t charge us for the drinks we had. This was very well handled! Kudos and bravo, even through the long wait — it was a great experience, and I would certainly go back.
Incidentally, dinner is something like this too, but slighly higher in price.
Oh, and the only other odd thing was the wall hangings — pictures of maps, fairly large, at that — of Pembroke Ontario. I would have liked something of the history of the college, the program, something more close to home. Pembroke seemed a bit irrelevant to me. Ah well, didn’t spoil the ambiance anyway. Go, eat, and have a great time! PS: The menu is always changing. Thats another good thing!

I spent a big chunk of my life here (WARNING: this review may be slightly sappy and sentimental). My Dad’s worked as a coordinator for years and convinced me to apply after I bailed on university after a few years. Always the university advocate I wasn’t so sure college was the place for me. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
The Public Relations program at Algonquin College literally changed my life. The program (and the college as a whole) offers hands-​on opportunities that put you in touch with real world experience and professionals in your industry.
After graduating from the PR program I landed a job in the recruitment department working with a team to spread the Algonquin word. While I was there I got a more in depth view of the awesome facilities including the Observatory (fantastic student bar with pool tables, great live music and cheap drinks), the nursing simulation lab (an amazing facility that could actually be used in an emergency) and a really cool Mobile Learning Centre designed for mobile devices (tablets, laptops, smartphones) and collaborative group work.
Over the years Algonquin has really tried to keep up with post-​secondary education trends. Last year they opened the ACCE building (Algonquin College Centre for Construction Excellence) which is a environmentally-​certified building right beside Baseline Station (which makes walking to Loblaws so much nicer in the winter!) and this fall they’re opening a new Student Commons building.
I still work out at their Fitness Zone gym, and a shout out has to be given to their awesome sports teams.
The one thing that makes five stars impossible? The admissions portion of the school. While I didn’t notice it when I was a student, my boyfriend recently returned as a mature student and we had an absolutely awful time with everything from his application to OSAP. While I understand the admissions department (or the Registrar in this case) is always being blamed at every school, this was insane. My advice? If possible, ALWAYS go into the school to get paper work done. Never assume it’s being taken care of properly, because chances are there’s a hiccup somewhere along the way.
Other than the clerical issues at Algonquin, I highly recommend this school to anyone searching for a career in a modern educational setting. That being said, because it’s a college and most people are only there for a year or two there’s a bit of school spirit lacking. Advice for students currently attending? Get out there and explore the campus. You’ll be surprised at the awesomeness you find!

I spent 8 months of my life going to this school, and I definitely have to give it kudos to what it has offered to me.

Before attending Algonquin College I had only ever been to a couple other college campuses in Ontario but after stepping foot on Algonquin‘s campus I was quite impressed with the size and modern setup of the place.
The campus is sprawling but at the same time it’s easy to get around because most of it is connected by above ground tunnels. The main cafeteria is centrally located along with several other cafes and small delis on campus where you can grab something to eat or drink between classes.
My two complaints about the campus is parking space and the library. Both, in my opinion, just aren’t large enough.
Residence is quite modern and spacious but the management of the facility at the time that I lived there was poor but that business is actually separate from the college.
Algonquin is a great school with many diverse programs and great professors. It’s in suburban Ottawa but close to the highway and attached to the main transit line so even if you’re new to Ottawa you won’t feel too secluded.
