Very hit or miss. When I started going here the to get the jerk chicken platter the food and price were both good. Unfortunately the price has gone up and lately the food is very hit or miss… Last 3 times have not been good so it will be a while before I give it another shot.

Not sure why this place does not have more stars? I have eaten here 20 times and the jerk chickens is better then some of the top spots In montego Bay. When I need a quick jerk, this place works !

Hello the staff were friendly, unfortunately the food was not up to par. I had the chicken roti and it tasted nothing like it should have, the chicken was not stewed with the curry so it had no flavor, just found it was not authentic Caribbean food. The item I did enjoy were the beef patties. Groovy’s is still my number one choice for good caribbean cuisine.

I want to like this place for being one of the few places serving up roti and doubles in Ottawa. It’s hard to get the Caribbean food i grew to love when down in Trinidad and Tobago. But truth is the food here is mediocre. I ordered chicken and goat Roti’s for myself and some friends, the roti bread is excellent, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s made in house, and the meat was plentiful and juicy. The roti as a whole was very dry however, and used potatoes rather than channa(chick peas), which makes me question it’s authenticity. As far as spiciness, these were severely bland. The portions are massive. In spite of this experience I still want to try their doubles and oxtail, and I’m hoping they can add some spice on request(maybe I just got the«Canadian palette special» this time.), but for now, I can’t really recommend them.

The choices for ‘something different’ when it comes to take-out in the East End are pretty limited. A friend had told us about this little Caribbean place that opened in Orleans, so one evening when it was too late to cook and we happened to be close by we thought we’d give it a shot. So glad we did! The staff were phenomenally friendly. When I arrived, it was 10 minutes before they were supposed to close and they had just run out of beef patties. Most places would have just said ‘sorry, no beef’, but the staff at Bananas was completely willing to make me up a couple of fresh(and hot!) patties. We ordered the Chicken Roti and the jerk chicken meal… Both were really good, and very generous portions of chicken and rice and beans. The rice had a nice flavor, but maybe a tad bit on the salty side. The jerk chicken was great… A good amount of heat, but you could still taste the flavor. Not as spicy as in Jamaica, mind you, but not super wimpy either. In all, we were very happy with the food and service at Bananas, and although we don’t live that close to it, we’ll definitely be making the trip again, and soon!

I too am pleased to see that Orleans now has more food options to choose from. The food was fresh at Bananas however, I did think their rice and peas was very mediocre and thought the plantain was way to ripe to be served. Having grown up in Toronto, I’ve had better. The servers were friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant.

We were hanging out at a friends when we heard about a new Caribbean place in town and off we went! When we arrived there was a DJ out front blaring some soca and it looked like a damn good time. We rolled into the Bananas and they were playing some reggae inside. They have their menus on the counters and we skimmed through it and ended up getting oxtail, stewed chicken, fried chicken and jerk chicken. The food here is solid and probably the best place for Caribbean I’ve tried in Ottawa which has a real limited selection compared to TO and MTL. The stewed chicken was really good, the oxtail was good and the others were ok. The portions are large with a lot of rice and beans and for you students on a budget, there is a student menu with some solid prices. I didn’t try one but the Jamaican patties were apparently good too. If I’m craving Caribbean I may drag my lazy ass out of the market into Orleans just to try some new things. They have goat and that is usually a favourite of mine… so I guess I know my next meal there :) Go support this place, the staff are super friendly and fun… oh and there are some fantastic milk shakes!
