I just tried it today and really liked it. My expectations were a bit low due to the location and size of the restaurant(and lack of positive reviews!); but I’d say Bento Sushi is worth a visit. The quality and price were good and the owner was really nice and talkative. Will definitely repeat… Soon!

Bento Sushi is a small, Japanese/Korean restaurant located in a strip mall on Rideau street near Vanier. In Ottawa, there are generally three kinds of Sushi, casual/somewhat fancy sit down places, all you can eat places and take out places. Bento Sushi would fall in latter. The first time I ate at Bento I was less than impressed; the rice was poorly seasoned, the fish was not fresh and the rolls were falling apart. For such poor quality food, I did not find it cheap. I decided to give it another try, writing off my first experience as a «bad day» for Bento. Unfortunately, my second visit was worse. It was July, so I was really craving cold food. I went to Bento with hopes the food would be acceptable. I didn’t even get so far as eating; as soon as I entered the restaurant, I was blown away by the stench of rotting fish. Despite the fact it was easily 30 degrees outside, Bento did not have air conditioning. It was evident by the odor that their ingredients were not being refrigerated properly. Before I could risk getting food poisoning I left and swore I would never return

this, if i’m not mistaken, is the one next to the Days Inn(which will need its own review.) in Rideau Street. the service was horrible, the food took to long. while it was edible, it’s not something that’d would make me sit back and think, «mm, i wish i can have some sushi in that quaint little place in Ottawa.» it was just bleh.
