This was third time getting my hair done at this salon and it was by far my best experience yet. The first time I went I felt like I really didn’t get what I wanted and the stylist seemed more concerned with her own ego than the fact that I wasn’t lovin’ my do. This time however, was different. I made an appointment a few weeks in advance to ensure I could get in on a busy Saturday. Walked in waited for a bit before being greeted by my stylist. She never remembers me but that’s fine because I only go every 4 – 5 months or so. I showed some pics of what I wanted done, and then we discussed how it would best work on my hair. It took about 2.5 hours but I was anticipating that, so no worries for me. One thing to note is that you’ll probably have at least 3 people working on your hair during your appointment. The colourist, the assistant to wash and the actual stylist to cut. Fine with me as long as everyone is doing a good job. In the end I like it. I also liked how I wasn’t forced to make small talk, I like chatting a bit but really I prefer to sit and enjoy the process, I’m happy when the person doing my hair can read this and they don’t try to force convos. It’s pricey here. I paid around $ 220 for a colour and a cut. If you’re concerned about price I suggest getting a consultation first. There is one thing that bothers me with this place and it’s the staff on the desk. I find them to be quite rude whether I’m making the appointment or paying for my services. It’s almost as if I am bothering them and that it’s beneath them to have to deal with me – which I find strange since it’s their job. Once you get past the front desk though it’s all good. Tipping is cash only.

‘Dropped in here on a whim to get my cut cleaned up. I usually cut my own hair but I was feeling like treating myself. I sat on the waiting couch maybe for a total of 5 – 10 minutes before Sammie called my name and helped me carry all my shopping bags to the styling chair. I was asked what I was looking for. After, Sammie made a few suggestions and laid out the plan to make sure everything was cool with me. Sammie has amazing hair and nails so I felt like I was in good hands. The scalp massage was nice and relaxing. Thorough but not too aggressive. We moved back to the chair and I got a lovely, layered long-bob — just like I asked for. Sammie was personable. There wasn’t too much or too little conversation. I like when people can just enjoy silence and talk when they feel like it. I left a happy customer.

I would compare my experience at Joseph’s to being on a assembly line at a factory. I came in, they sat me down, a woman called me up… Didn’t say anything, washed my hair, brought me to another woman who was smacking her gum and talking on her cell phone, she hung up and began to cut my hair. It was at that point that I literally said… «Woah woah, wait. Do you even know what kind of hair style I’m looking for?» instead of apologizing for just going at my hair like a mad woman, she just said«ok, what». I explained to her what I want and she just nodded and continued to chew her gum extremely loudly and obnoxiously. So my hair turned out nothing like I wanted. I asked for an asymmetric cut. I can’t even notice that she cut my hair. It’s probably the most boring hair cut I’ve ever had. It is not asymmetrical. I wish I didn’t tip, but she stood there looming over me while I paid by debit which was incredibly uncomfortable. My experience with her was horrible and she really just wanted to cut my hair and get me out of there. I have gotten my eyebrows done at Joseph’s and the lady doing them was professional and they looked really good after she was finished. I just can’t get past my hair cut with this woman though. I’ll never be back!

Although Joseph’s is primarily a hair salon, it recently joined forces with Amalfi spa upstairs and now has an amazing nail salon at the back. There wasn’t a lot of conversation from my esthetician, but the paint job I was left with lasted a full ten days. I’ve never had such luck before, so I have no choice but to call this my top manicure ever.
