Decore is spartan and the debit/credit machine wasn’t working when I went, but the father/daughter team was extremely friendly and the food was really flavourful. We each had a roti and split an order of friend plantains. It wasn’t cheap as far as lunch goes but it fairly priced and very filling. My friend’s goat was very tender and the roti itself was soft and flaky. The one thing I will warn you about is that when they say hot they mean hot. I like spicy food, I ordered it medium given the server’s admonishment of my friend who ordered it hot and the medium was definitely the maximum where I would still find the meal enjoyable. We definitely went through a lot of water.

Best Caribbean restaurant in Ottawa. So flavourful and delicious it’s a hidden gem. Guaranteed to be better than any other, I’ve tried them all. Feels like home when I come here. The people are so nice and welcoming. It’s a must!!!

I was extremely excited when I heard that Fredrick had opened up another business! More often than not, I order the Goat Roti. I’m incapable eating spicy food, despite years of trying, and so I choose the«Baby Mild» spice level. I have chosen spicer at times and was delighted that my meal had flavour and spice, so often restaurants make food that is just spicy, not here! Fredrick and the people that work with him are some of the warmest, most welcoming people I have ever encountered. When I’m feeling sad, I’ll often come and order dinner here because their positivity and warmth is infectious. The homemade ginger beer is fantastic but if your not into gingery heat, order their homemade sorrel. Both beverages are excellent. Don’t miss an opportunity to eat here, the food is delicious!

I ordered the«jerky jerky» from this wonderful small restaurant. It is meant to be a casual dining experience. I found it rather good. I also ordered the homemade ice cream and was not disappointed. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes a bit of spice!

It’s so refreshing to find a place in Ottawa that can actually do spicy! I got the lamb roti platter and was pleasantly surprised by the careful presentation of the various ingredients as well as the flavourful kick of the curry. These people clearly know what they’re doing and don’t pull their flavour punches to cater to a timid crowd. Service was a little slow, but worth the wait. Tucked away in Lowertown, this place is a gem off the beaten path. Your taste buds will thank you for journeying those few extra blocks beyond the market and its standard fare.

Finally had the chance to visit Flavours of the Caribbean this evening. Im very glad i did. The friendly helpfull staff guided me through the menu helping me find an appropriate and interesting cross section of options. I got to sample jerk wings, cod cakes, curried goat their salad and corn bread. Delightfully distinct authentic flavours. All foods made«from scratch». I highly recommend!

Not Up to Expectations, Stick to Roti We were regulars at the chef’s original restaurant that sadly burned down. Perhaps if I had not been so looking forward to the reopening, my disappointment would not have been so intense. Having visited Jamaica frequently Akees and salt fish is a fav, when I ordered it here, the fish was fishy, to the point of being inedible. The chef seemed to think it was my problem that I disliked it and offered me no other option My companions roti however was delicious and so we recommend that for those that don’t mind the blasting music in this informal Café, we recommend that they stick with the roti

I used to go to the chef’s old restaurants in Chinatown and then on Carling, they were longtime favourites of mine. While visiting Ottawa recently I saw that he had opened a new place in lowertown. I tried the jerk tempeh(fermented soybean patty) roti, it was pretty tasty and the spice level was enough to slow me down but not enough to make me cry. I think it’s a pretty unique type of roti, at least for Ottawa. I’d recommend paying a bit extra to upgrade to the platter just to have more variety on your plate. Also tried the homemade ginger beer, it’s pretty tasty although very sweet. The taste reminds me of those Ting Ting Jahe ginger candies you can get in Asian stores.

saw a fish special and couldnt resist. was disappointed to hear the platter with rice n peas would be $ 17 plus tax not including drink whaaaat!!! was reassured ohh this is the best food u wont be disappointed… mmn hmmm. Well… I was… Fish was tasteless and overcooked. aint natin there to be paying over $ 20 for but thanks for trying! positives: fresh ginger juice was good but not worth over $ 5 gtfoh. had to beg for a free dessert sample since they were a new business and i was a first time customer… was happy that $ 30+ later i warranted some free piece of cake. forget the name(similar to upside down banana cake) very very moist and good. dont appreciate being swindled. wont be taking up his offer to return and neither will my friend. i understand the carribbean spots in Ottawa may not have the same demand as in Toronto and may need to charge higher prices but if u are going to charge more i expect proper food not dry rice n dry flavorless fish. deuces and good luck with that business strategy.

The best Caribbean food anywhere. It’s been a bit of a wait for Chef Frederick White to open his new restaurant but the food is as fantastic as it’s ever been. There are around 10 different proteins that can be served as a Roti or as Platters. Some of the options are beef, chicken, goat, chana, tempeh, codfish, shrimp and a few others. Some of those can be made as Curry or as Jerk spiced. If you are looking for a tasty appetizer then go for for the Jerk Chicken Wings. They are incredible. Enjoy, it’s the best Caribbean food in town!
