SuzyQ Doughnuts

UPDATE *Changed rating to 5 stars (up from 4)*: Visited SuzyQ on Father’s day to bring my dad some treats. The location had changed, had no idea. Now they have their own adorable little boutique! It was quiet when we got there around noon.
I was amazed by how many new flavours were available! Spicy pinneaple? Carrot cake? Mocha? Almond peanut? I had never seen these flavours available at SuzyQ before. There were many others available that I forget right now, but I was so happy to see they expended and seem to be doing so well.
The girl behind the counter was attentive right away and was patient while I gathered my thoughts to choose which flavours to get into my box of 6. Raspberry remains my favorite but the Wundercrunch was also SO good! My BF and sister raved about the Mocha flavour as well.
Will definitely be visiting again now that I know they have a better location/​space and more flavours to choose from!
Definitely a gem in Ottawa!

I’ve been to SuzyQ’s several times, but I think those times were before I was an avid Unilocaler since I never thought to review this Doughnut shop!
I first tried SuzyQ’s doughnuts at the Farmers’ market and I’ve told many people of it since then. The doughnut itself it the same, but the glaze is what changes from one to the other. The doughnuts are a big size, fluffy, soft and delicious, and not baked but fried!
The glaze is where the flavours come in. My favorite one is the Raspberry. It’s sweet and tangy all at once. I think it marries perfectly with the simple dough flavour! The Maple Bacon has quickly become one of their staples and is delicious as well. I also really enjoyed the Salted Caramel doughnut. The sugar doughnut is simple and a good one to go with as well for those that don’t feel too adventurous. My boyfriend really like the chocolate covered doughnut, I personally thought it was too bitter, but that’s what dark chocolate is all about, isn’t it?
I haven’t returned to SuzyQ in the last year, not because it’s worth it but simply because it’s out of the way for me.
One of my friend recently got married and SuzyQ catered the sweets for the reception. They had been baked and delivered the day before, but were still fresh on the night of the reception (a good 24 hours later).
I’m not giving it 5 stars because the service isn’t always the best. Every time I’ve been there, it seems there are only ever 2 – 3 staff members, which creates a long wait to be served and it’s happened that some flavours we wanted were sold out by the time it was our turn. They should really consider opening a bigger shop, or having a serving window, or just having more staff on hand on the weekend at least!

Came here for National Donut Day because who doesn’t love donuts?! SuzyQ definitely carries a variety of unique and tasty flavours, now going for $ 12 for 6 donuts. The donuts are huge but the flavour is all in the icing/​toppings. I would love to try some filled donuts or ones with a flavour shot. The staff are super friendly and helpful, especially considering the volume of customers. Would definitely come back when a donut craving hits.

Amazing doughnut variety whenever I go! The staff are super chill and helpful if you need any help making decisions. Also a great thing to try in the summer is their ice cream sandwich doughnut! Very unique, tasty and Instragram worthy!

I’m an out of towner and this doughnut shop is the best. Ottawa’s hidden gem? Not really since their are lineups here. Nothing but fluffy goodness. Worth a try but I am warning you this can turn into a guilty pleasure.

When I saw the reviews for this donut shop on Unilocal,I had to give the place a visit. I bought two boxes of 6 donuts, one for a friend and one for myself. The staff was very nice and patient with me despite my indecisiveness in front of all those trays of goodness.
All of the donuts were delicious and tasted a lot more homemade then the usual store bought ones, but the London fog and the Maple Bacon donut were the biggest hits. Both had just the right amount of sweetness and the maple bacon combo paired amazingly. However, I still wouldn’t recommend eating more than two by yourself in one sitting as you will most likely regret it later on.
It ended up being 20 $ for the two boxes, which seems fair for 12 homemade donuts. Would definitely stop for a couple of maple bacons next time I pass by SuzyQ’s.

Best doughnuts I’ve had in a while! Inventive flavors atop (still-​warm) fresh fluffy yeast doughnuts. Service was a little slow, but well with the 10 min wait! There’s room to eat inside (smells heavenly) and outside. The blue vanilla, raspberry cassis, and maple bacon were my favorites. 2 $/​each or 6 for $ 10.

Visited Suzy Q’s on two separate days but loved it each time! The smells that hit you upon opening the door get you hyped for the donuts you’ll soon be consuming! It was always busy when I went so you had plenty of time to mull over which donuts you wanted. Always baked super fresh, with staff constantly bringing out trays upon trays of freshly baked donuts.
The donuts themselves are so fluffy and the flavours are unique and very well done! They pair well with their coffees. The staff are really friendly too!
Table space for dine-​in customers is not the biggest but I always seem to be able to nab a seat with my friends and I but do call dibs on tables just in case!

I drove from Toronto to Ottawa just for these doughnuts. They are my all time favourite. I wish they would open up a spot in Toronto, every time I visit my cousins in Ottawa this is my first stop. Absolutely amazing. Cookies and cream and the chocolate one are absolutely amazing! Love love love LOVE THEM

SuzyQ donuts are AMAZING. The variety of flavours is absolutely charming at at $ 10 for 6 donuts, the price is pretty darn reasonable for what you get! These are so out of Tim Horton’s donuts league. They are absolutely decadent and soft and squishy and amazing.
But, I am taking off not one but TWO stars for their insufficient staffing. More often than not, there is a LONG lineup and a 20min+ wait time to get to the counter to order. Which is annoying, and also frustrating when the last donut of the flavour you’ve been eyeing since you walked in is sold out by the time you get there. The staff look constantly stressed and frazzled, and at least one group walks in and right back out again when they see the lineup.
Back when they were in the small shack, I could understand that. There’s only so much space.
However, they are now in a larger location, an actual storefront, and I don’t think they have any excuse to not hire more staff. I find it disrespectful to their staff and customers that they refuse to do so, and it’s also illogical because they could probably pay a staff person’s salary from all the business they lose from people walking out when they see the lineup.
The donuts ARE worth 20 minutes of uncomfortable standing around and waiting, but only on rare occasion and only by a small margin.

Great doughnuts and friendly staff. Only losing a point because I’ve had better (such as glory hole donuts in Toronto). My donut was a bit boring as it was probably out for a few hours but I tried my friends whose doughnut was still hot and wow it was great. So I recommended choosing a flavour that’s on a full tray meaning it just came out. The guys behind the counter were so kind and took the time to ask how our day was going and what we were up to, despite the long line up. A must go when I’m Ottawa.

The doughnuts are hyped for a reason, and I think it’s fair to say that they are worth of a treat. I’ve tried a variety of flavours, and I’ve never experienced any major flaws (like dryness). As much as I appreciate sweets, I’d have to say that the raspberry chassis flavour impresses the most, because it’s sweet and tangy, in all the right ways.
They are certainly on the pricey side, but worthy if you are looking to treat yourself for a special occasion.

The Old Fashioned, or sugar donut, fresh out of the oven is amazing… but when is something fresh out of the oven *not* amazing?
The donuts are decent, and a nice treat, but I would not flip out over them. It’s more novelty than substance. So for an office thing, this would be very well received, but I prefer actual bakeries for pot-​lucks, office parties, etc.

Oh heck yeah! Great donuts here, but they go very fast. We had the maple bacon donuts and they were great. Parking is limited, just keep that in mind. A single donut is 2 $. Half dozen is 10 $. They do sell out and make a new batch once they sell out. So you may have to wait for your donut for a bit. It’s totally worth it though, because it may come out warm, straight from the fryer!
Highly recommend a visit if you are in town!

The doughnuts here are delicious! I tried PB&J, London Fog, Cookies N Cream, Raspberry Cassis, S’Mores and the Dirty Chocolate, all of them were AWESOME and a «MUST TRY»!

I can’t get over how great their doughnuts are! Very unique compared to your typical doughnut! It looked like they were all made fresh and so they were also served warm. which was another thing I loved. My favorite was the green tea doughnut! Definitely recommend!
The staff were very friendly and patient as I stood there asking many questions overwhelmed by the amount of colorful doughnuts.
The building itself is not the best though. It’s sort of a shack in the back of this dirt parking lot. The building was not large enough to hold everyone in line, so the line made its way outside the building. There is no seating inside, but there were picnic tables in the parking lot. I didn’t really want to be eating at a picnic table on a hot day, so we took the doughnuts to the nearest Bridgehead.
I think this SuzyQ is more of a take-​out place. I would definitely come here again to pick up some doughnuts and go! Would recommend!

A must stop destination for anyone who loves a good donut. The donuts themselves are nice and substantial without being overly dense or cakey, but there are a couple of toppings that really stood out.
A lot of places do a maple bacon donut, but these ones had a hint of smokiness that really set them apart. And the raspberry coulis had an unbelievably intense fruit flavor that was amazing.
Definitely worth seeking out!

These are not your typical donuts from Timmy’s. These are gourmet style. While quite pricier than a regular piece of fried dough, the donuts here are fresh, soft and delicious with a variety of new toppings to try! My favourite are dirty chocolate, London fog and recently the mango lassie. $ 2 per donut or $ 10 for 6 donuts.

There are donuts and then there is Suzy Q. Wow! I would give these guys 7 stars on 5 if I could. The main negative is how super early they close. But you haven’t had dessert in Ottawa until you have had Suzy Q. This is a must go place.
The place looks really cool on the outside and but is a bit tiny on the inside. They have benches outside but I guess there are no seating options in winter. Staff is friendly. They are very creative with the types and styles of donuts they make.
I hear they are opening a second location now and you can also get their donuts at the Whole Foods café downtown

This is a great place to get homemade gourmet donuts. They are decently priced and I guarantee you will find a flavour you will adore. My personal favourites are the raspberry and maple bacon flavours.
The 4 stars is for the lack of seating and lack of drink options! This is a small shack like building with the only seating being outside and in the winter there is no where to sit and eat your donut! Imagine how great it would be to have a London fog with your London fog donut!

I visited Ottawa for a business trip and my colleagues in Ottawa kept telling me how good SuzyQ Donuts are. Since I was visiting and I was a guest, they decided to order three dozens for breakfast snacks! At first, I had no idea these donuts are $ 2 each, but they looked very pretty when they arrived.
Due to my diet plan, I could only allow myself to eat one and plus, eating donuts in the morning is quite deadly to be honest. There were many different flavours, but i went with Cookies & Cream because it looked the least deadly out of the ones I saw in the boxes and it looked pretty! I have to say, the donuts was good! The donuts was soft and the icing was delicious. Never had such good donuts in my life before and I’m glad I got to try this Ottawa Landmark! Would I try other ones when I return to Ottawa? Of course! But I need to ensure I’m ready to pay for the $ 2 premium per donuts and when I’m not on a diet.

Hum, meilleur donut que j’ai mangé. Choix imaginatif (london fog, cinnamon crunch, fruit loop…). Le plus populaire Maple-​bacon. Délicieux. Gros, léger et aucunement gras. Toute petite boutique. J’adore!!!
