Charming place. Neat drinks, good tea selection, reasonable prices, and lovely décor. Love it.

Great coffee, quaint décor and authentic chai tea latte (aka they didn’t use a premade sugary mix). Would definitely come back here again. Great place to go when the weather is good and you want to sit on the patio

Here I am, back at it again! Well– I’ve slacked a little lately, but I found it suiting to bring myself back and to kick it off with this wonderful establishment.
Let me first begin by telling you how awesome the owner/​manager is, and if you see this Surrinder, then good. He and his staff do a remarkable job at keeping the customers there super happy!
The wall of teas now… Hnng. They’re every type of tea you could think of xD and they’re just delicious. Not to mention the cute retro cups it can be served in!
Teas, food (and beer even) it’s a great place to just go and relax.

Very quaint. Great price. The jam was delicious, the scones were excellent and the servers were very sweet and courteous. I’ll definitely be returning!

This place is great. We came right at opening, and they weren’t quite open yet. We told the owner not to rush and she let us just take our time looking at the (many) yea options. The atmosphere is awesome, with an Alice in Wonderland theme, comfy seating, and fireplace. We will definitely be coming back

The washrooms are upstairs. They are for single occupants so take turns if your with friends going upstairs.
The washroom was small and clean. The toilet had a crack on it but it was tapped up and I don’t think it mattered.
Now one thing that often bothers me is the smell of people’s business in the washroom so its nice to have a toilet with a lid, right? Common courtesy; though I didn’t have the option here. One of those always open toilets. :s
Anyway, the washroom walls are all pink and its pretty uplifting. Gives a nice mood and the soap was matching in colour!
The sink works fine and has a nice amount of space. The only issue was after having the water on for a while it still wasn’t warm.
The toilet paper is nice, the kind you’d really appreciate your friend having. The have a paper towel holder but it has two extra rolls of toilet paper inside which is real nice of them. The paper towel is just above the extra toilet paper so don’t worry your hands are gonna be fine.
They have a trash can which wasn’t full so they probably check up on the room often enough.
Be warned the door is heavy tho so it’ll be hard to get in there and out.
General comments:
The place is very cozy. Really neat lighting and relaxing music.
Lots of good tea blends to choose from.
Carrying the famous Kusmi Tea brand to buy is wonderful if your looking for something to take home.
They have done very novelty decorations like a Victorian couch and a chalk board wall with Alice in Wonderland art.
They have tea blends that are made in house named after Sherlock Holmes and Alice in Wonderland characters. I had the «Who’s Alice?» Today and it was lovely. Fruity with a strong sent.
There pastries are quite good too. I’m pretty picky about my deserts because of my sensitive teeth but I’ve had some great experiences w their pecan treats.
They have beers there too. Big bottles of Beau’s and some normal beer bottles too.
Lemonade is also available if you want.

I was visiting a friend in Ottawa in July. We decided to *do tea* at several different venues.
We visited The Tea Party’s York St. location for afternoon tea & scones… It was a very hot afternoon for Ottawa (close to 90f). The sign said AIR CONDITIONED, but it was still very hot & stuffy inside.
We loved the Alice in Wonderland theme & found the ambiance fun & quirky.
Since it was so hot, we ordered iced tea, which was well brewed. My friend got a plain scone. I ordered a blueberry scone. They each came with jam & cream & were delicious. It was a fun place for an afternoon snack. I would go back!

As a tourist, it can be challenging finding places that my girlfriend (who is vegan) and I both enjoy. Although the fare is vegetarian, I wasn’t disappointed. The selection of teas were fantastic and I really enjoyed the salads. My girlfriend thought it would have been nice to have more vegan options but really enjoyed what she ordered. We enjoyed our visit so much the first time around, we went back again. As for the service, amazing. Thank you for a great experience Mr. Surinder!

I just love The Tea Party. Scones are the best ever. Food is amazingly good. Their chai latte is great. I love the décor and the ambiance. Service is a bit slow, but I go there to relax not to be rushed out. I used to live next door on York, so I don’t go as often as I used to. I haven’t tried the Glebe location one yet.

This place could be 4 star, they just need to improve their quality and presentation. The baked treats are quite good. Some improvement is needed in their scones. Who does love high tea?!

I went to another tea party at fouth ave. The atmosphere is cozy and suitable for reading a book. The scone and cream are great. The tea is not amazing but ok.

I really enjoy myself every time I visit The Tea Party. It is perfect for a relaxing afternoon. The staff are very friendly. There is a large selection of tea and the prices are extremely reasonable. I recommend the sweet scone with cream and jam. The Tea Party is also one of the few places in Ottawa that does High Tea.

The tea party is a perfect place to go if you need a quiet place to study, mark papers, job hunt, or catch up with an old friend. It’s a quaint heritage buildling with a small patio outside for hot days.
There is a large selection of teas, and during the summer there are pre-​made iced tea options. The iced tea generally sells out quickly so if you’re going later in the day you may be too late. The sandwich and side combo is very reasonably priced (around $ 8) and is a great option for lunch. I’m not a big fan of their scones, but to each their own!
The washrooms are located up the stairs and in the back. The doors are pretty heavy to open, so the first time i went I thought the door was locked and someone was using it! Ten minutes later i decided to really give the door a good push, and finally I got in.
In all, this is a cute little place for tea with a close friend, a casual interview, or to spend some alone time.

I would highly recommend a trip to The Tea Party and have no complaints about the café or the food– the only reason I didn’t give 5 starts is because the staff need some improvement.
When I walked in with two friends, the café was empty apart from one other girl. As we approached the counter, the one employee didn’t greet us or even look at us. Amongst ourselves, we discussed the fact that it was our first time and we weren’t sure what to order (a great opportunity for him to chime in but he still ignored us). I tried to engage him by asking what his favourite tea was but all I got was a one word answer.
They have an incredible selection of teas, each with clever names and all of which you can smell to aid in your decision. They don’t have a huge selection of baked goods but what we chose was good. I’ll have to go back for lunch in the future as their Indian food menu was more extensive.
I loved the décor– earthy tones, exposed brick, mix-​matched tables, chairs, and cups. My friends and I sat on a couple comfy couches by the window and didn’t leave for almost 4 hours. Even though the café was full at times, we were never asked to leave or move to a different table.
Overall, The Tea Party is a perfect spot to catch up with friends. As long as you aren’t expecting to swap witty repartee with your server, you will not be disappointed!

Absolutely love the tea party! They have a wide selection of teas and great food options as well. I especially like the vegan options and their chill atmosphere where I ended up staying and playing board games with my friends!

A small relaxed place with a simple vegetarian menu. We ordered three different things and everything was delicious.

I was at the Tea Party recently with 2 friends. It is an old converted house with very eclectic décor (looks like it was furnished from finds at a garage sale).
They have a huge selection of tea. I had the chai latte which was ok but lacked flavour and sweetness. One of my friends had a pot of Darjeeling tea, which he really enjoyed and my other friend had a pot of a fruity vanilla tea which she liked — it was recommended to her by the staff there.
They have a decent selection of food as well, mostly scones, dessert squares and sandwiches, but some entrees as well. All the food is vegetarian. I had the Tandoori Tofu sandwich (all sandwiches are $ 7.99). It was made with foccacia bread and spinach, tomatoes, tofu and curry mayo. It was ok, but tastes like something that I could have easily made at home. It came with a spinach salad that also had tomato and cucumbers in it. The dressing was a balsamic vinaigrette. Again, tasted like something I could have made at home.
When I eat out I prefer to eat things that I can’t make myself at home easily, be it because I don’t have the exotic ingredients, because I lack the skills to make it or because I don’t want to clean up the mess that would be involved in making it. So while the sandwich and salad were not bad, I could have made it myself easily at home.
One of my friends had the Guacamole Tomato sandwich which also came on foccacia bread and had Guacamole, tomato, peppers and brie cheese. She had the soup of the day instead of the salad and it was a sweet potato soup. She said that the soup was good but it needed salt. She also liked the sandwich but thought that the brie tasted like goat cheese. I noticed on the menu that my sandwich was supposed to be made with lettuce and not spinach, but they substitutes spinach for the lettuce, so I wouldn’t be surprised if maybe they substituted the brie in her sandwich with goat cheese. No big deal to me, but some people might be picky about that kind of stuff.
My other friend had a scone and they told him that they ran out of jam so he was a bit disappointed but had the scone anyway with cream instead. He said that the scone was tasty but a bit more crumbly than at the Scone Witch.
The washrooms are upstairs and the women’s washroom has a bath tub in it complete with shower curtain (!) I had to peak behind the curtain to make sure no one was hiding behind it — creepy… The sink and bath tub were rusty. There was also a dusty empty glass curios cabinet in the washroom. Weird. The washroom wasn’t dirty in a filthy kind of way, it was just old and dusty… like a rustic cottage.
The service here was great though. They were very patient and nice and answered all the questions we had about their teas and food. We were there for 4 hours and they never tried to shoo us out, even though it got busy at times (no one was waiting for a table though).
So overall, a unique place with interesting décor and really friendly service. I found the tea and food to be just average and nothing that requires great skill or complex ingredients to make. I would go back if I just wanted to hang out with friends and maybe I’d try their dessert squares next time.

I really can’t decide how I feel about The Tea Party. It’s in a cute little house on York further up from the Market with a nice patio out front (though you might get whifs of the stables next door, which can be a little confusing until you know that they’re there.)
If you can, go with someone who’s been before when you come in for your first time because it’s not at all obvious what you’re supposed to do, but I’ll give it a go (if I’m right…): make a left when you come in the front door, rather than walking straight to the counter, as you’ll need to look at the teas along the walls (you can open and smell them, too) since there’s no other tea menu. This may involve leaning over people who are trying to enjoy their tea or meals to see something that looks interesting. Once you know what you want you can go up to the counter to order a pot or other drink/​food (I haven’t eaten here but the food looks interesting). On both visits my tea was brought to me at a table, they don’t serve it at the counter.
They also seem to do Afternoon/​High Tea on Sundays, which is sort of fun, and priced such that you don’t have to wait for a special occasion.
The tea itself has been good both times I went — once for iced and once for hot tea. I swear some of the tea in the jars on the walls is David’s Tea, but who knows and there are tonnes of them that definitely aren’t. Basically I think if you like this place you’ll love it and if you don’t you’ll hate it, yet I’m somehow on the fence. Go figure.

The Tea Party is this quaint and unassuming shop in the heart of the Byward Market. The staff were helpful and patient. They have quite the selection of tea and I took my time choosing and there was no rush. I choose a raspberry tea that was teeming with flavour, I enjoyed the whole pot! They know how to open their tea leaves at The Tea Party.
The atmosphere is very laid back. This is a good place for a quiet conversation or a moment with a book.

Attended high tea on mothers day .You choose your tea receive a tea pot of your choice along with assorted mini sandwiches and 4 assorted deserts. Overall very enjoyable and laid-​back.
