The Whalesbone Sustainable Oysters & Fish Supply

Great place for lunch if you like seafood. Fresh fish, calamari and soups are on the menu. They also sell fresh seafood and smoked fish from the market. Seating is limited so takeout is your best bet, or go a bit later to avoid the rush.

You can order take out or sit at a small counter and enjoy you grub. It is significantly less expensive than the full restaurant a few blocks away on Bank. Quicker too. You can also buy sustainable seafood products to cook at home. We ordered fish and chips and had the cod.

I kept telling my sister the best fish and chip place is in New West! It’s called Corkney King Fish and Chips. They’ve been serving fish and chips in New West for like 25 years. They serve fish and chips the Old English style. My sister took me to what she considered the best fish and chip place in Ottawa… Whalesbone.
Wow I have to admit Whalesbone is pretty awesome! As soon as you walk in you’ll notice that they have a fresh fish sales counter. When you see fresh fish being sold in the same place that they’re making and selling fish and chips you can reasonably assume that your fish and chips are going to be fresh! We ordered the 2 piece fish and chips and shared a calamari. The food was delish and super fresh! What I like most about Whalesbone is their fish and calamari batter is very light and crispy.
You’ve got to love any fish establishment that has a picture of their award winning oyster shucking team hanging from their wall!!!

Never grabbed food to go, I only got some fresh seafood (fresh fish, smoked fish, oysters and such)
First time I was here was last summer during oysterfest. We grabbed a bunch of unshucked shells of different kinds, candied salmon, smoked tuna and went home to feast. It’s super fresh, the staff is very kind and knowledgeable.
I’m always very happy with the produce !
