Mostly good food here. I think the only bad thing I ever ordered was the crab cakes. They reminded me of something that came from the bottom of the freezer at a convenience store. Anyway, the liver and onions is delicious. As are many of the other menu items. Captain Ken’s has come a long way over the years. When I was younger it was a shady pool hall that I was forbidden to go to because of the clientele. Since the excellent renovations the atmosphere and clientele has improved, and the prices reflect it. Overall, a good visit.

Just went a few days ago with my girlfriend while at the cottage. Both of us wanted fresh pickerel & got exactly that. I opted for the pan fried and she got the breaded. The fish itself was fresh but the seasoning could be a bit more flavorful. I think I enjoyed mine more than she did hers. The fries were crispy and small, and I like them that way. My kingdom for a vinegar spray bottle, though. Dousing them with a traditional vinegar jar is so disappointing once you’ve had them sprayed. Beer was fine, atmosphere was typical to the area, waitress and staff were polite and quick. I think my biggest complaint was the tables were too high for the(tall) chairs, making for an awkward sitting situation. I’ll likely return, and next time I’ll ask to be seated at a regular table. I want to give this a 3.5 star rating, but will opt for the 4 instead.

BOTTOMLINE: PICKEREL, PICKEREL, PICKEREL! I remember first eating here my first time and loving the PAN-FRIEDPICKEREL(freshly caught!). Fast forward 5 years, and this place has not only stuck around but has expanded into a huge back room with an expanded selection of draft beers(including the Flying Monkeys Amber Ale!). They have daily specials, but I went back to the tried and true and ordered the pickerel… and it remains top notch. The fries, though, were a bit stale. Impressively, the daughter of the owner recognized me and remembered the group I came with from 5 years ago!
