History

Established in 1985.

Mr. Art Knapp starting out by selling fruit, veggies and trees from a very small store on Fort Street in Victoria during the depression years of the 1930’s. His outgoing personality and great customer service allowed him to expand his services to deliveries as well. One of his suppliers, Mr. Bill Vander Zalm Sr. worked closely with Art Knapp and eventually his son, Bill Vander Zalm Jr. began working for him. Art Knapp Plantland’s 17 locations grew from there.

Wim VanderZalm and his wife Rose own the Wimco group of companies. Together they operate 2 stores, Port Coquitlam and Downtown Vancouver. The flagship store is in Port Coquitlam and boasts over 20,000 sq.ft. of store area, 40,000 sq.ft. of outdoor covered greenhouses for a dry shopping environment in our often wet climate and 40,000 sq.ft. of outdoor nursery.

Business Owner

Wim is well recognized throughout BC for his extensive horticultural expertise. He does a Garden Talk program that has aired for over 15 years with CNKW radio and is presently on the Bill Good Show. Wim has been known to make guest apperances on Shaw Cable TV as well as contributing to a column in Garden Wise Magazine.

Wim’s knowledge and love for plants is evident in the way he works with customers to figure out a solution to their inquiries. Some customers have even called him a «Plant Doctor», but Wim just wants to spread his passion for botany and promoting a greener lifestyle.

Also, Wim is constantly involved in philanthropy. He donates a lot of his time to JDRF, as well as other reputable foundations.
