I was so happy to discover a yarn shop so close to my home! I love taking classes here and find the staff very helpful! There is a great selection of yarn too. They have everything that I need to complete my projects!

This is such a cute local shop. It has so many amazing choices of great quality yarn. The women that work here are so helpful and friendly. They have taught me a lot. If I was to choose anywhere to take private lessons, it would be here. These ladies know their stuff! They have a selection of yarn and tools that other larger craft stores don’t tend to carry because it is more high end.

Having a wool allergy I was pleased that this store carried cotton and alpaca yarns. Being a poor undergrad it can be a bit pricey but I found a nice skein of yarn for under $ 10. This store is well organized and very easy to get to. The staff are nice and friendly, and you can ask them any questions. Fantastic place too bad it’s all the way in Port Moody.

Tucked away just off the main drag of Port Moody, this is pretty much everything I could ask for in a LYS(local yarn store). Within its soothing Kermit-green walls, Black Sheep carries plenty of premium yarns — Debbie Bliss, Rowan, Noro, Koigu, to name a few — for my happy knitting hands. Luckily, they do have a few sales throughout the year — always a great time to stock up for those bigger projects. The owner and her staff are, of course, dedicated and enthusiastic knitters, and always helpful in translating the yarns given in a pattern to whatever substitute is chosen. You can almost never find the exact yarn given in a magazine pattern(not that you always want to anyway), and these ladies have many times helped me figure out the math of yarn gauges and needles, even whipping out the calculator to figure out how many skeins I’ll need for a project. The windows along one side make it a cheerful space, and they’ve also got a nice cozy corner of books and magazines, including the beautiful but always frustratingly complicated Interweave Knits family of publications. It’s worth the little road trip to PoMo if you happen to be a knitter closer to the East Side or in the inner burbs, and you’re a fibre snob like me! There is parking on the street, but the shop also has two small spaces available in the alley.

A great shop with a good variety of high end wools, including Madelainetosh, Noro, Handmaiden, Sweet Georgia and Louet. A good mix of wool, alpaca, silk and cotton. The selection of magazines and books are the latest with a nice area to browse through the pages. Classes are offered, although I haven’t attended any of these. Staff have been helpful and friendly, allowing for browsing and enjoying the selection of yarns. One of the best selections of Madainetosh yarns that I have seen in the Vancouver local shops. Prices are in line with other local shops. Worth the effort to check out if you are in the Tri-city area.
