Sushi and Roll has become our regular go-to for sushi take-out. It’s close by for us, the food has been good, and the prices are great. My husband and I have also eaten in, but given how close we live, we generally prefer ordering to go. We used to frequent Sushi Town in Coquitlam a few minutes further away, but the lineups are often dismal for eating in, and lately we had found the construction of their rolls was starting to decline(flattened rolls, loose rolls that fell apart when you picked them up). Sushi and Roll has a very similar menu and, whether official or not, is pretty much an extension of the Sushi Garden/Town/California restaurant family. Port Moody has needed a sushi restaurant like this for a long time so I’m really excited it’s finally here. Given how popular their Surrey location is, I hope this location sticks around for awhile too. The restaurant itself is quite spacious with plenty of seating. There are a couple tv’s on(whenever we’ve been there it was on mute) which is great if you want to watch a sports game. Service is quite friendly and they’re always nice over the phone when ordering take-out. They’re still a relatively new restaurant so if they’ve had any issues I’d be inclined to give them a break because they’re still working out all the kinks. One of the first times we ate in less than a month after they opened, service was slow, but I think it was because there were only two sushi chefs and the restaurant was starting to get busy so they were probably unprepared. They’ve gotten a lot better since. I like the spicy sashimi with sauce on the side and the crispy volcano roll. Their BC roll was a little disappointing, as the roll itself is big, but the filling contains only a little piece of salmon skin and the rest of all cucumber. I suggested to them that they might want to put in some imitation crab meat inside to make the roll more substantial(otherwise why make it such a big roll?), but we’ll see if they take that into consideration. People should give this place a chance. I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

I’ve been to this restaurant a number of times, but only for take out, so I’m not able to give much insight into the quality of service. I can, however, comment on the food… and I’d have to say everything has been pretty good. The times I’ve been to pick up my food have varied between 5:30 — 7:30pm on weeknights and it’s never been super busy. They haven’t been open very long but I do hope they stick around. The sushi here is much better than a lot of other places in the neighborhood and the prices are really good. Definitely worth coming back for. I tend to stick to the same items when I order sushi, but lately I’ve been trying to branch out to other items. On my last visit, I ordered the sushi and sashimi combo, which was really good. I also like their«Red Roll» which is chopped scallop inside and topped with spicy tuna & green onion. Very good. I was disappointed with their rainbow roll as it has tamago(egg) inside instead of the usual California roll filling. Everything else I’ve had has been really good. I think I found my new go-to place for sushi.

This place is new and going through its first year growing pains but frankly I’m pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and professional atmosphere of this restaurant. The owner takes pride in perfection. I didn’t find it to be loud or unpleasant at all. The TV’s were turned silent and the music was low. The waitress was polite and prompt. Our food was fast and fresh. You get a lot of food for a better price than all other sushi restaurants in Port Moody– and the best part is it’s not stale or past due date fish or ingredients like some of the other lower price sushi places. I really like this place and hope it’s clientele grows fast enough before its overhead outweighs it’s income. The location is known to turn over many times in last few years. In summary: Well worth going!

We loved Fuji, but wanted to give this a try. It was not very full at all on a Saturday night. Unlike Fuji, the atmosphere was loud and stressful. Sports on LED TVs, radio blasting, and a bunch more seats crowded in. Even nearly empty it felt crowded. The food was cheaper, and there was lots of it but we got less than we paid for. We waited nearly an hour before the first food came to the table, and that was only one of us. It was 10 minutes between each person’s order coming to the table. My tuna don came first, but was still frozen in places. The tea was lukewarm and infrequently poured. The food(other than my frozen tuna) was OK, but between the unpleasant surroundings and the fact that my two companions and I were STARVING after an hour’s wait — and they KEPT starving for another 10 and 20 minutes. We timed it, it was that bad. The harried waitstaff was apologetic, and gave us a discount off the order but we can’t imagine going back. We could have had a better, and faster dinner if I’d driven to T&T and brought sushi home.

Sushi and Roll has taken over the old Fuji Sushi location and I’m excited because this place is just down the street from me. That means I can just walk to pick up my take out instead of driving down to Sushi Town. If you know and like Sushi Garden/Town/California, then you’ll be happy about Sushi & Roll. The menu, portions and prices are similar so you know you’re going to get good bang for your buck. They actually have a few different special rolls so on our first visit we tried a couple out. Crispy Volcano Roll. For 10 bucks you not only get a deep fried spicy tuna roll placed on the outside of a plate, you also get a decent amount of spicy tuna sashimi in the centre. Hence, volcano roll. My wife and I also had the Crazy Rabbit Roll. It was all right. Instead of seaweed, they somehow use cucumber to wrap the roll with crab, sweet potato and tamago inside. Not bad low carb roll since there’s no rice… if you’re watching your carb intake. The restaurant actually has quite a bit of seating. It wasn’t close to full when I went on a Friday night but there was a steady stream of customers eating in and taking out. Unfortunately there still seems to be a few kinks to work out. With only two chefs working the food was a bit slower than other sushi restaurants. I’m sure once people know they’re open and as it becomes more popular, they will increase the staff. We also ordered another roll but never received it. We would have asked but was feeling full anyway… but still, they forgot and it showed up on the bill too. Overall, I’ll be coming back since it’s so convenient for me as I don’t have to drive to Sushi Town. I’d say 3.5 stars but will upgrade as I see fit.
