Elgin Mills Cemetery Visitation Chapel and Reception

I usually prefer not to rate places like these, but Elgin Mills Cemetery is one of the best, if not the best. I say this because the people that are working there are at the highest standard that could be when it comes to serving and accommodating people. Both my grandfathers are rested there and both times the people working there were genuinely there to help and serve us. I just went tonight for a visitation. It was about –30 with wind chill and one of the staff was standing outside directing traffic. Even in this bone chilling weather, he spoke to me with such great politeness. I offered him my Tims coffee (too cold not to help). He was so sincere and thankful when accepting it. Great man! Great service. 5 stars!

This cemetery is smaller than a lot of the cemeteries in the Mount Pleasant Group, but it’s slowly becoming larger with time. Theres a lot of open spaces with no trees, but there are areas with some trees. Their mausoleum is nice. It was renovated recently, and it has crypts and glass fronted niches. I heard that this cemetery has cheaper plots than the other cemeteries in T.O. There’s no famous faces in this cemetery… yet. I look forward to this place growing more! :)

Great visitation chapel, well maintained grounds/​cemetary even if a bit loud because of proximity to highway. One of my grandmothers is buried here at this cemetery along with a number of other more distant relatives. Jennifer K has captured how nice/​architecturally unique the visitation chapel is in her pictures — and it’s where I’ve attended a number of services. Given the circumstances you’d find yourself there, it seems odd to call it inspiring, but in the very least whoever designed it was inspired — and it was built with the latest in a full range of audio/​visual equipment in mind. I particularly remember one Chinese hostess who works there who was very competent and professional that was able to tactfully always keep things moving.
I’d agree this place is definitely convenient even if it is in nosebleed Toronto. I visited this place with the rest of my extended family to commemorate the passing of my grandmother a number of years ago just after the facility was built.
The grounds are massive and filled it seems predominantly with Oriental people. Though they’re big, there are convenient landmarks like pagoda’s small bridges that add accents to an otherwise barren land of tombstones. Because it’s so wide and open, almost every time I’ve been there it has seemed fairly windy.
Maybe it was also just really windy from the direction of the highway, but it is sort of loud, and you can see and hear the highway from the cemetery. There are apparently a lot of plots pre-​sold however because there are still a number of plots around my grandmother’s which are unfilled and I know there were others who wanted to be buried closer to her.

I don’t enjoy going to Funeral… So sad, so depressed! Though I have to say Elgin Mills Cemetery Visitation Chapel is one of the best funeral services location I been to.
This is such a convenient location since it is right next to 404. There are ample of parkings. The grounds are well kept.
The inside is nicely decorated. You really does not feel like you are at a funeral home. The Chapel that held the services has high ceiling, big windows that let nature light to come inand so roomy. Even the sound and visual system that set up for the services are excellent.
Thanks for having all those tissue around on every roll of seats! I was crying a bucket of tears…
