Origin Room Break

Had a very positive experience here. We came up with a group of 12 people and split up into two groups, one for the Vampire room and the other for the Thief room (Groupon, which my sister bought, so I can’t speak to price here). I ended up in the vampire room, and while the story line was a bit cheesy, there was a lot of attention put towards some surprising clues/​tricks. I don’t want to reveal too much, but I was surprised a number of times.
The most impressive part, however, was that we’d made a reservation and expected to arrive earlier, but got there at such a time that the owner had to stay after closing to accommodate our group. He was great, was willing to stay half an hour after closing for us!
It’s a bit a drive up Yonge and the rooms/​clues are a wee bit shabby… but overall, great experience!

Nothing worked. Everything was broken. They gave up the answer at the end because it was broken. What a joke. Don’t waist your time and money

This isn’t my first escape room experience thus I’ve seen better.
This place is hard to find in the first place, it’s like you have to go searching for the escape room itself before playing in it. It’s behind the plaza all the way in the corner of it too, with a very small, white sign that said origin room escape room.
Its a super small place once you walk in, with lots of polarid pictures of people which failed to escape, facing the entrance. Wasn’t too encouraging the amount of «failed» pictures posted facing the entrance. It just made me feel that this escape room is hard to solve more than fun.
There’s a couch along the wall and across from it is the counter where you pay, the counter almost seems hidden from everything in the small lobby room. On one side of the counter, there’s a display case with some stuffed animals and lego sets inside. It’s divided into 2 sections where it’s over 4 people and over 8 people, meaning if you are able to solve the rooms without any hints, you can win one of these prizes. Beside the display case, there’s a small wooden shelf with some random card games on it.
We got a groupon and apparently taxes are extra and you have to pay it prior to playing. We went into the vampire room where some team members had to be separate from the team. We were given one big flashlight and 2 little ones. The little flashlights had barely any batteries in it, which made it super difficult to see. The room was set hard more than fun, we were told that certain things we could not move and touch but as we got stuck and asked for a hint, we were told the hints were in the things which he stated we could not touch in the beginning, which we wasted a lot of time. And for a specific puzzle, clues were not given clearly enough so we couldn’t solve it and had to keep asking because it didn’t open the lock.
We did not manage to solve the room because of all these unclear instructions. We felt confused the whole time in the room. As we finished, we understood why there were so many other people that didn’t successfully escape the room and why there would be such nice prizes if you successfully escaped.
I would NEVER come back to this place to try out other rooms and will not suggest any other friends to come here either. There’s a lot of other places where they spend more money and thoughts into designing their rooms.

I purchased a Groupon to check out this escape room with a group of 4. It’s a little far, up at Yonge and south of Major Mac. Just north of Freeing. It was a little hard to find, it was in the back of the plaza where there was nothing else to the left of the H-​Mart. (What’s with these escape rooms located beside Asian supermarkets lol) There was one other car parked outside. probably that of the guy who worked there.
Upon entry, I sensed another cheap room escape. Hand drawn signs and cutouts on the room doors. then I remembered I only paid $ 10 and some change to try this out so I kept my spirits up.
We played the Thief Master room in which you are in love with some girl and she would only date you if you can break into the vault. Okay?
So we were guided into the room, no blind folds, with all of our belongings. Already a pretty different experience.
Again, another room with dilapidated clues and puzzles. Post-It’s used, ripped up paper. the only thing they spent money on in here was a laptop, but then again it was really old. We had some difficulty with one of the puzzles and called for help and the guy explained to us how to do it but it didn’t work! We suspect that some furniture was moved prior to us playing. but the guy denied it. A little bit rude.
We broke into the second room where there were lasers and they didn’t even work LOL. We were able to just run through it without triggering any alarms.
Overall, I was glad we only paid $ 10 for it. We did escape, but the lasers were kind of a joke.
I would not recommend this escape room and I would not come back ever.

One of the poorest-​quality rooms I’ve been to in Toronto (we did the thief room). If you’ve never been to an escape room and have no expectations, you might find some aspects of the room interesting. Otherwise, you’ll quickly realize that the puzzles and clues have little coherence and provide zero thematic value to the room. The thief room was a trial-​and-​error type room with boring puzzles and a meaningless second room.
We went here on a Groupon deal paying $ 10 per person and found it not worth the time nor the money.

So my wife and I have been to too many room escapes to count at this point and sadly Origin is on the lower end. They have three rooms all of which have their own strengths and weaknesses. Overall the price of origin can’t be beat, but be warned if you buy their groupon that they do charge you tax when you get there and they won’t accept it for their brand new «case book room».
All of their rooms are relatively heavy on the tech gadgets which isn’t always a good thing. I’d say that the thief room is their best if you still insist on going here, but be warned that in all three rooms there will be serious translation issues. In all three rooms it can be a big problem and seems unfortunate that they didn’t find someone to help translate/​test the rooms.
You can do worse, but you can certainly do better.

This is my 5^th escape room experience within gta, my friends and I did 2 rooms here (vampire & thief). I liked they had a theme and plot and tried to keep it consistent with room décor and even an alternate ending but where they lost points was the puzzles/​challenges and management. They had toy prizes if u got out w/​o hints.
1) I find there’s always a few random puzzles but in this case perhaps a mistranslation of play on words? — we got out from touching/(gently) moving everything by coincidence. They said not to touch anything in this one part when there was a clue there.
2) owner did not reset game clues properly so we got keys/​clues out of order which made us OCD ie. why we haven’t used this key yet– huge disappoint here cuz it wasted time.
3) owner left the walkie talkie in room! So we were buzzing for over 5 mins for a clue before we saw (its dark) — I left the room to return it and ask about clue/​lost time– but they were too busy at that time to follow me back, so when he did he added on 2 mins for the mishap which didn’t help
4) they told us no phones (I get why) but gave 2 cheap flashlights for 6 ppl for very dark rooms and didn’t change the batteries on black light flashlight
Difficultly level of hard is very subjective, but at the end of Vampire Room, one challenge was music related. They said it’s very hard… why bother making this an option then? Lucky us! cuz one of our friends there majored in music at York U and plays music well and he still couldn’t solve what they were asking.
The place was clean, owners were nice but didn’t seem to understand the feedback when they inquired us at the end, had fun and it was a buytopia deal but from the issues above, I wouldn’t return or recommend this place.
