Garry Point Park

Such a beautiful sight! We came here as a spontaneous trip to kill time before the Richmond Night Market and this was one of the best ideas we made on this trip.
Parking can be a little iffy on a beautiful sunny day, but with determination you should be able to stalk a family and take over their parking spot. :)
The first thing I saw was a bunch of kites being flown over the grass area. It was amazing to see many people, young and old, having a blast flying their kite on a semi windy day. There’s a nice view of the water too — that the park doesn’t recommend swimming in — BUT it’s a great view to take wedding photos in front of!
I took a stroll on their trail and it was a flat giant circle, so I recommend walking on it to get a whole view of what the park looks like. Mainly it’s just flat land with a bunch of grass :)
Oh! Last but not least, there were a lot of cute dogs in the park. When I went, I was tempted to take them all home with me. (jk. I wouldn’t do that.)

This small park next to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery is a lovely place to explore more of British Columbia’s natural beauty or to walk off your meal from Pajo’s or any of the abundant eateries in Steveston Village. The views are spectacular, the walk is easy, and while no park in Vancouver or Richmond, B.C. seems as jammed as any park in NYC, it did seem more crowded than the larger Vancouver parks. There are picnic tables scattered here and there, but many people just planted down on the large green «meadow» with their coolers or food bought from the village shops. The walk through the parking lot from the Cannery seems long on a hot day, as there is no shade, so lotion up with sunscreen even before you reach the park. You can stroll through a petite Japanese garden, examine the fisherman’s memorial, or just kick back, and watch the kites in the expansive sky. Another one of Vancouver/Richmond’s parks worth ambling through.

One of the best park ever, this place attracts more people to visit steveston village… huge park theres a big green-​grass area for kids and dogs to run and fly kite, trail for walkers, runners, dogs and bikers. On spring time this place offers a lot of cherry blossoms. on its season the place looks heaven. this is one of the reason why i always come here on spring time.
Another reason is just walking around enjoying the view of land and waters. wild birds and ducks roaming around plus those small to big ships patrolling the water… the cargo ones are huge,…
Its a clean park, ive noticed aswell that theres some guards patrolling it, im not really sure if these people are patrolling or just doing their walks like me
Huge free parking and the park is open almost most of the day… actually im not sure if they are closing it during the night.
At summer when the sun is out this place is amazingly beautiful. and during sun set its spectacular… i love the place so much that everytime i have friends visiting from outside BC i always drive them around here.
There’s pajos restaurant by the park, no wifi but theres public wash room… for people who dont wanna pay for the meal tables are plenty around the park to enjoy packed meals…
When i visited the other day it was alternately rain and shine but still i managed to captured few amazing photos.
For people living outside the area you may plan your trip on weekdays traffic in steveston up to highway and up to knight street is pretty bad…

Easily my favorite spot in Richmond, this park is a nice mix of easy to get to and walk around, with a pinch of history in the form of the cannery, and lots of in the marshland and ocean views around it. Kite-​fliers seem to love this place: I’ve never not seen people flying them on sunny days.
It’s a small park (easily traversed in a fifteen-​minute stroll), but more a pleasant and atmospheric walk than the bumper-​to-​bumper baby carriage crowd that swamps the shops and boardwalk nearby in Steveston proper.

This park is super small. Not sure if you would consider it a park. Maybe, kind of ?
Well its attached to Steveston. So after shopping for seafood, can come here and walk around. Or walk around after dinner. There is a parking lot in front that is free but parking is just as difficult to find then anywhere on Steveston, especially on a nice sunny day.

Really nice spot to go for a walk and enjoy the sunset. Only down side for me is people bringing their dogs off leash on the beach.

Amazing place to go biking, and miles and miles of trail along the West Dyke. Lovely site for photogs to take pictures of the sunset, the sea, and cherry blossoms in spring. A very serene place to reflect and contemplate about life.

Nice extension of Steveston. Depending on what time of day you get here it is normally quiet, however, filled with locals who want to bike ride and just walk. It’s a different more appreciated view of Richmond.

We came up across this park on our way through Stevenston. This park is close to the shipyard where they film the TV show «once upon a time». We saw people flying kites and having a good time.
There was also a Japanese garden right in the middle of the park. As you walk further into the park you’ll eventually come across a fisherman’s memorial. Really interesting to see some of these historical landmarks.

We are kite people. We are those crazy people that carry lots of different kites in the back of their car.
When I heard that there is a «kite field» out here I had to check it out.
There is a kite «field» but it’s so well used it’s more like a kite mud flat.
The smaller kids had a hard time standing in the mud and all the grooves and ridges created from the feet of the kite flyers made for an obstacle course for little legs.
I had to hose them off before letting them back in the car.
There were so many kites in the air it was hard at times to find a spot. It made for a very cool view to see all those kites flying together, but a bit frustrating to be trying to fly in it.
We felt like some people there didn’t respect the space of people there before them and just shoved their way in or launched way too close to someone else, making me worry about tangled strings.
We could pretty much forget the two string… there was not enough space for that.
Yeah it was cool to have a space just for kites… where you could launch your kite and not worry about someone coming up and trying to play frisbee around you, but a weekday when there hasn’t been any rain in a while (which pretty well never happens) is recommended.

No visit to Vancouver would be complete without a trip to the historic Steveston district of Richmond. However, most people seem to overlook this park, which is a short walk away from the Cannery.
Parking is available in a large lot in the area, as well as side streets.
The area is great for bicycling, or bringing one’s family to enjoy the outdoors. As with any coastal area, it can get windy here, so be sure to dress warm.
My personal favourite part is the dock area — it is great for taking shots of the sunsets, as well as all the fishing boats moored nearby. There is something really special about this area — these are the kinds of shots that would end up on postcards.

Did you know that just next to this park is where the Once Upon A Time crew films? I was driving around one afternoon and was looking for a parking spot and drove into the wrong lot. I asked the security guard if it was a public parking spot but was informed it was for the cast of Once Upon A Time! Sadly, I did not see any famous people that day but it was nice to finally know where Storybrooke is!
This park is absolutely beautiful. It is a seaside park with a gravel pathway. There are plenty of parking spots and it is located near a very cute quaint town. Definitely a place to visit and take a nice walk.
While I was there, I saw many people flying kites, riding bikes and taking jogs. It is very peaceful here. Don’t forget to walk to the stores nearby as there are many restaurants to choose from if you get hungry.

I grew up on 7^th Ave. so you must know how much time I spent at Garry Point… I could see it from my house! The days of kite flying with my siblings, came to a end far too quickly.
No crazies yelling, no nonsensical nonsense, no bogus… just pure bliss (other than *some* of the kids).

Another attraction to the Steveston area is this wide open waterfront park.
Take a long walk, stop for pictures of the wildflowers, have a picnic, fish from the shore, or like us suckers, bring your binoculars and look for the Sea Lions that are supposed to be on the S. Jetty only to learn upon arrival that they can only be viewed from a charter boat. –hah!
Lovely dog walking area and friendly peep’s to chat with. Definite recommend!

Garry Point Park offers some of the nicest views of the Fraser River and Gulf Islands – summer, winter, fall or spring. My cousin bought freshly caught 8 pound salmon for $ 30CDN from one of the boats at the pier, plopped down some Tunies (that’s $ 2CDN for our U.S. cousins) to BBQ at the park. Yummy. Bring a kite, bring a bike, bring some food, and get here before 11am on busy Labor (Labour) Day Monday. Watch commercial fishing and transport vessels on the working Fraser River, and see a variety of wildlife including shore birds and jumping salmon. Great trail systems as well. Explore the old canneries that existed in this area prior to this part of Richmond being Chique. I remember the days when this place was an unincorporated «Steveston», the land of the smelly fish processing plants and the land of the ditches… but no longer… property value here has since sky rocketed.

Garry Point Park is situated beside Steveston Village along the Fraser River. This is the park to go when you want to destress yourself and enjoy nature without travelling hundreds of kilometres away to some more well-​known destinations. What I really like about this park are the views of the coastline, especially the Gulf Islands. It’s free of super cargo ships, which are a common sight in coastal parks in the Greater Vancouver area. However, there are small commercial fishing vessels which line the boardwalk.
There is a big large green space for flying kites, enjoying a BBQ picnic, or just laying on the grass. The trails are very well maintained and they are very clean. You will get a strong breeze because there are very few trees. Make sure you wear sunscreen during the summer or a jacket when the sun isn’t out.
There are excellent fishing opportunities at this park. Seriously. You can catch some amazing fish right on the shore (coho, sockeye and chum salmon, pacific tomcod, bull trout, cutthroat trout, dolly varden, and car sized white sturgeon — catch and release only.

I used to come here before it was a park, when it was just a big pile of dirt. We used to take our truck here or the olé Subaru and race around in the big mound in the mud.
Now it’s a park and a beautiful one at that. Natural, beautiful view of the water and if you remember to bring mosquito repellant in the evening, a nice walk in the sunset.
Parking is plentiful, there’s Pajo’s fish and chips and a place for yoghurt and drinks and stuff. Nice place for a walk or jog and even a picnic.

Garry Point Park is the Mecca to kite flying and wind buggy pilots. This park hosts BCKA kite flying events year round. If you have a kite and luv to fly in all round wind conditions; this is the park for you!
This is a seaside park that includes a fisherman’s memorial park, and a gravel pathway for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

Garry Point is located right at the mouth of the Fraser river and offers a vast grassy area and perfect winds to fly kites.
In addition to this there’s little spots here and there where you can climb down the rocks to the edge of the water and hang out. Although it’s not allowed, you’ll see plenty of people down by the edge with nice roaring fires going and roasting marshmallows.
It’s not the nicest park, but it is definitely a convenient option to get close to the water and the parking lot coupled with open space makes it a good place to take the entire family.
