I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received at the Richmond Centre store in BC. Firstly, the cashier forgot to remove the security tag from my purchase. When I returned home, I was dismayed to discover the security tag still on. This was to be a gift– had I given it away, it would have made for a very awkward and embarrassing moment with my in-laws on Christmas day. I do not even live in Richmond so it was an extra trip for me to go back to the Richmond store. Then, when I returned to the store to get the tag removed, the manager(Shannon) I spoke with was expressionless, did not apologize, clearly did care about the trouble I went through to come back just to get the tag removed, did not offer any compensation of any sort, no effort whatsoever to make amends. She kept saying«I can’t do anything or offer anything» and even told me to contact customer service. It’s not customer service if it leaves a bad taste in your mouth or creates extra trouble for you. In stark contrast, the other team members in the store, the associates around the store, were all very helpful and gave me no attitude at all during my shopping experience. I am shocked as to how a manager can set such a poor example for the other employees. I am emailing this experience to the H&M customer service team for follow-up.

I guess customer service really varies with every associate. I was there on a busy Saturday when every fitting room was full and there was a huge line up(10+ ppls) at the cashier. When I was in the fitting room, there were these 2 associates that served me with the best customer service I’ve ever had. I had no idea what I was looking for, so I told them what my favourite colours were, and the occasion that I’m attending. Despite the amount of other work they already had on them, they managed to continuously bring in garments for me to try on, without giving me ANY attitude. Very commendable! Also, when I walked to the cashier, I was carrying a full shopping bag of clothing. Faced with such a big purchase and the long line up behind me, the cashier was able to process the purchase fluently, handling my items with care, and again NOATTITUDE whatsoever. Very commendable! This is going to be my store to go from now on, as customer service at the downtown location is horrible.

For the record I normally don’t spend more than 20 minutes at an H&M store, however, was in the hood for some other things(see reviews on that later) and needed a red blouse for a costume I was wearing earlier in the week. I did see a blouse that was similar for $ 40 that would’ve been perfect. I stood there debating on whether it was worth the $$$ or not and then trying it on which was decent fit, however, too thin and see through. I was running out of time and my event started in less than 8 hours. I didn’t have a red blouse for my costume for a special event on opening night and even though that this was the closest thing I passed for the reason is that it was stitched a bit poorly, I noticed some loose threads which meant that I would have to take it home that day before the show and then patch it up again and for $ 40 for something that cheap I would have no where to wear it. I was also put off by the pushy sales person which didn’t help my decision for the better.

I was unable to attend the grand opening as I had originally anticipated, due to the fact that it conflicted with my school hours. Regardless, I made a pit-stop sometime in the opening week. I had my eye on the perfect black tote, and I just so happened to have a coupon burning a hole in my wallet. I was more than pleased with my purchase, and could not wait to wear it out the day after. To my surprise, the cashier and I must have been so engaged in conversation that she completely missed the fact that she forgot to remove the security tag. Save a life. I wound up having to return to the store the following day and looked suspicious entering whilst the alarms rang. I felt a pang of guilt even though I knew I was not in the wrong(I just looked it). That was the first and last time I stepped into that location. If I want to scope out the racks, I head downtown.

I love H&M’s clothing for both my kids and I. This store is new and it looks beautiful! Walking into the store at 11ish on a Monday morning you’ll find it’s pretty dead with the exception of a few stroller moms. The issue I have with the store is the lack of customer service and the idiot cashier. I was walking around browsing for at least 40 minutes and never once had any acknowledgement from an employee. I love low pressure sales, but hey at least smile or say good morning. I ended up picking up two items and with a 20% off coupon in hand went straight to the cashier. There were two people ahead of me and the line moved fast enough. When it was my turn I handed the items to the cashier along with the coupon. The cashier then proceeds to deduct 20% off the cheapest item. When I corrected her and told her the coupon says to take 20% off the item of my choice, not the cheapest one. She got all snooty with me and said it’s 20% off the cheapest one. I told her no it’s not and to read to the coupon. She refused to read the coupon and instead asked her co-worker. Her co-worker said the 20% off can be used on any one item(duh), but them goes on to tell me that I can’t return the item for full price(WTF?!). I don’t want to return the item, I just want to use the bloody coupon from your stores website and no, I’m not out to scam you. So end of story I won’t be coming back to this H&M. Too bad for them as I have three kids and myself to dress, and I love to shop!
