I came here a few year ago and while the food was pretty decent, it was not consistent with their pricing. For the price, I would expect larger portions. The décor here is also lacking something. It is dark and quiet. It felt like I was eating in someone’s kitchen and not in a busy restaurant. Overall I would say food is decent but it is overpriced.

It’s a little over priced for my liking. Customer service was good. Nice spacious place. Parking wasn’t bad, I was lucky to find someone right away. They have pretty creative desserts. I say try them. :)

Fairly decent Japanese place, if you don’t mind paying through the nose. Parking is available in the strip mall lot. The place is fairly quiet. The interior is quite typical, with the pale walls but dark wooden furniture and trim. Looked a bit too plain for my liking. Staff were friendly, and were Japanese. The menu looked a bit strange(they must’ve used an international keyboard making this thing), especially with the spacing. While the descriptions were mostly useful, photos would’ve been nice. Pricing is definitely on the steep side, especially when compared to places like Guu. Many«tapas» were $ 10 – 15. A hole will be burning through one’s wallet in no time. Tuna takaki — light seared pieces. Served with pickled vegetables on top. Pieces were a bit dry, as they were slightly too seared. Scallop special sushi — didn’t really see what was so special about this, other than that it was wrapped with bean curd on the outside. Pieces were quite tiny. Beef tongue — probably my favourite dish of the bunch. Nice large(but almost paper thin) slices of tongue, which is self-cooked on the mini hot plate. 6 slices for $ 8 though? Yikes. I could probably eat $ 100 of this by myself. Hamachi yuan yaki — seared chunk of fish. Pieces broke off nice and easily. Served with what I thought was ice, but was actually some kind of shredded daikon(turnip). Chirashi don — nice variety of seafood chunks. Served with miso(quite salty compared to other places), and a small dish of pickled celery, daikon, and carrot. Not bad, except that the actual don bowl is quite shallow. For me, this made the dish snack-sized. The meal ended up costing $ 75 all in for 2 people. We both ended up getting fried chicken afterwards too. Yikes. Presentation is nice, but wow this place is expensive for what you get. If you’re a big eater, you may want to stick to Ebisu or Guu, unless you’re rich.

A nice fusion Japanese place. Izakaya style. Fresh Sashimi. Price is slightly cheaper than DT Vancouver Restaurants. All the small dishes are delicious. Their Kobe beef stone grill, is a much nicer pricing than some places out there.

Went here for dinner, also another first timer. Decided to try a new place since every time I come visit the area I always end up going back to the same places.(You know those places are good if you keep going back xD). But instead I decided to go elsewhere for once and see what other japanese restaurants have to offer. This place is at a corner plaza at the intersection of Blundell and Garden City. The restaurant is an end unit in the plaza. The lighting outside of the plaza could use brighter lights because since this place was in a corner, it was darker than other restaurants that were located in the middle or further toward the street. So it just looked from afar that the restaurant was closed since the lighting in the plaza isn’t that great. But onto the food! Ordered the chirashi, spicy salmon rolls, and the batera, The chirashi was average, smaller portion than I had expected, quality and texture of the sashimi was average, The spicy salmon was quite tasty than expected so that was a big plus. Unfortunately it wasn’t spicy at all it was just the coloring.(got my hopes up =() The batera was OK… they had given us in rolls which was a bit different from where other places serve their batera’s. One roll had just tasted odd. When I mean odd it’s because the ingredients that they put in the roll, just doesn’t match your tastebuds, well me personally it didn’t taste very well. The roll had some fish(don’t remember what it was called) and in the middle between the rice and fish there was mint. Once you bite into the roll the mint flavor really takes over the entire taste of the roll. I found it too over powering and the mix of raw fish and the vinger-ey taste of the sushi rice just didn’t work for me There’s too much going on and all the flavors are clashing and their not mixing well, therefore you get a bunch of weird tasting things in your mouth. But the mint is what I tasted the most. Overall, I didn’t like it too much, it was too weird. Raw fish and mint don’t mix. The service was friendly and kind, they were always on top of refilling our tea when it was empty. The place is smaller than others but comfortable. The owners are true japanese people which made the the whole experience better since alot of sushi places in Richmond are chinese owned and operated. The place was decent but nothing particularly inspired me to want me to come back more than once.

Delicious and unique food! The service and food preparation is outstanding. Make sure to make a reservation though as space is very limited. Also be prepared to pay extra for the quality. Overall I would definitely recommend for the sushi connoisseur!

For a sushi place in Richmond, this one is a standout. Reservations a must as it’s small and service is very personable. Great food, unique dishes, good sake too.

I paid $ 18 for four, maybe five super small pieces of sashimi. The lovely crown of crushed ice it was perched upon, while nice, didn’t fill my stomach. I quit while I was ahead. Too rich for my blood.

Most unpleasant eating experience! They use pure fat beef as the wagyu beef(40 dollars per 100g) ! And when we complained, the manager even told us this is the way it is and people like it ! Are you joking? Any people will pay 40 for fat? Even through they finally agree to take that fat potion out, their arrogant and rude attitude are very very disappointing ! My family will never go to this restaurant again!

Tried their salmon don and it wasnt so bad. Beef tataki was decent but overpriced for the amount served! It’s a tiny place with poor sound control, but their food is pretty decent quality. The only thing about this place is that the waitresses aren’t very accommodating.

Decent sushi, decent timely service, customer service was okay and the prices were very decent for 2 servings of yam and avocado roll, basic cucumber roll and another just plain avocado roll to go. All under $ 20 = happy cat.

Food is decent. It’s better than average but not crazy amazing. However, service was completely lacking. We waited by the door for minutes before we were seated, and the restaurant wasn’t even full. We were given the wrong order and when I told the waitress, she accused us of lying! She stated that we did receive the right order. I took pictures of our food before eating(for Unilocal) so I knew I was right. I showed her and she defensively stated that it wasn’t her who took the order. I told her we would just eat what was given but that I didn’t want to get overcharged, and she said we wouldn’t. Our bill arrives and guess what — we were overcharged. I really don’t mind if someone makes a mistake(it happens), but I do NOT appreciate being accused of lying and a lack of ownership from the restaurant. Any place with such practices are not fit to run a business. I would avoid this place — dishonesty should not be rewarded.

Great food, great service, food are presented very artistically and uniquely. However, servings are small. Don’t be seated near the door as cold air comes in every time somebody comes on or out, and it’s annoying. We were moved to another table. Overall, great dining experience.

This is a high-end restaurant run by all Japanese people. We walked in without a reservation on a Saturday night. We waited for half an hour. Not bad, however, 4 people ended up sitting at the sushi bar. It’s better than nothing, plus we were starving. Sushi rolls are expensive, the cheapest roll is $ 10. Generally, all food are quite fresh. And remember to check out their Daily Special for Sashimi~ We ended up paying $ 27/person. Not feeling extremely full… Not recommended for guys who are used to ‘All You Can Eat’. This is kinda like Fine Dining for Japanese Food.

This place reminds me of the days when I lived in Japan. The food is fairly authentic, fresh and well presented, all Japanese staff of course. Sushi rice vinegar doesn’t have«much»(compared to budget venues like Samurai) msg loaded into it and amazingly no matter how much hot tea I drank from the small cup I always had a full cup of hot tea… is that magic or what? We ordered the Kinki nimono(red snapper-I think in soup) with assorted veges. Dynamite roll(btw not a traditional Jp item). The rolls weren’t too impressive and felt a tad deflated(lack of rice I think). We also ordered oden and katsudon. The katsudon was very nicely done because I could still smell a hint of rice wine when it was served– with soup, preserved veges and appropriate spices. Probably the best katsudon I’ve had outside of Japan. So then why only the 4 stars? The décor… A restaurant of this caliber(meaning very good) should have decors that match. By that I don’t mean the interior looks like a french bistro or pre-owned bar. It does suit the cuisine but it’s just very minimalistic, and Japanese know that Izakayas do not have minimalistic interiors, instead they are usually filled with decorations, old wooden antiques or modern chic backlight washi panels meant to enclose the patron and remind them of home. Anyway I digress. Pricing is slightly more costly than the average joe but nothing unreasonable and if you order rice bowls or noodle items you’ll exit on budget. I will continue to visit this venue but do hope they garner enough business for a facelift in the near future.

Kiriri is located in small strip mall at Garden City and Blundell Road. The restaurant seating capacity is small which only have 7 – 8 tables. I would say reservation on weekends must. We had reservations at 6:30 and were promptly seated. It seemed like run by Chinese rather than Japanese. I have no complaint about the food which in average. We ordered few things from the menu. Scallop roll — was ok. Tuna tataki — presented beatuifuly Assorted tempura — Mediocre Aji(jack mackerel) — It’s look as good as taste. Beef tongue — was good. The service was slow and we had to waive the waitress over to get tea filled.

Very courteous staff who make you feel welcome. Tip: Make reservations for dinner! As mentioned in the other posts, reservations are definitely recommended since the wait for a table can easily be 1 – 2 hours on a Friday or Saturday night. This isn’t like sushi garden though, so prepare to shell out some serious cash! Even though you won’t be fine dining at a posh restaurant in downtown, you’ll still be spending around $ 40 just on the food and perhaps another $ 15 – 20 depending what what drinks/desserts you order. Anyways, the food here is very good but I feel like they may have different chefs, hence the mixed reviews. The majority of my friends like the food at kiriri but I do know some people who thought the food was mediocre. I honestly don’t know the kitchen staff that well but I haven’t been disappointed yet by both their food and service. The black miso cod is my favourite dish and and it’s seriously so buttery and delicious! Everything is very fresh and service is prompt. The only downside is that the dishes are quite expensive, while the portions are fairly small. I feel that you do get what you pay for though!

Hidden in a less busy section of Richmond, it was unexpected to find a Japanese restaurant of such quality. We had the Chicken Karaage, Spider and West Coast Rolls and the Black Sesame Crème Brulee. The Chicken Karaage was tender and crisp, while unlike usual sushi rolls, the Spider and West Coast rolls were wrapped in soy paper instead of seaweed. While it was a surprise to see the sushi arrive wrapped in yellow and pink soy paper, it turned out to be delicious. The highly recommended Black Sesame Crème Brulee was absoloutely wonderful, although smaller than expected as it came with a much larger portion of fruits than Crème Brulee. The price can be a bit more expensive, but it is definitely worth it for the quality of food. There are so many more things on their menu that looks delicious — definitely coming back next time!

I really want to enter the restaurant by kicking the front door down screaming«THISISSPARTA!» But then I suppose the sushi chef at the bar may throw his knife at me for self-defense. But he might as well be prepared in case I can’t reign myself back from a sushi raid. You see, sushi joints are ubiquitous in Richmond, and more are constantly mushrooming around the corner; what keeps me coming back here is Kiriri’s consistency of quality and service. Take Ankimo(Monkfish liver) for example, also considered as the«foie gras of the sea,» is buttery, and delectable. It is served in a light dressing and accompanied with pickled cucumbers to help cleanse the richness in between bites. It is too bad it is served on its own because I’d love to smear it all over me, I mean the bread. The nirigi sushi are a must-try and I recommend the Saba(Mackerel) which is beautifully sliced in a unique cut over sushi rice that is cooked just right and lightly swiped with wasabi. Saba itself is very vinegary and salty from the curing process and very oily. A handful of fresh-cut veggie and shrimp are lightly coated and tossed into the deep-fryer until golden and crispy. The shrimps are decent sized and has the springy texture that only fresh shrimp does, so this assorted tempura is on your ‘to-order” list. And it is insane not to order the Black Sesame Cream Brulee, which comes cupped close in a bowl. When you open the cup, you’ll find that the cream brulee is torched on the lid and there are assorted fresh fruits in the bowl. Crack the sugar open and scoop a mouthful of the creamy and smooth cream brulee and taste the sesame and vanilla beans dancing on your tongue. If you find it a bit heavy take a bite of the star fruit to restore the balance. And if you do want to lick the lid after, it is perfectly normal; I’ve done it many times before and trust me no one will be looking at you. Throughout the dinner your tea cup will always be filled with green tea by the attentive staff and at the end of the meal you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the bill — that sometimes you don’t need to splurge to eat like a Tenno. Cheerio~
