Some really cute baby stuff, but not my own style. I do find great deals for my son. Huge warehouse style full of racks. The store is well lit and my LO loves the mannequins in the front. Usually long line to pay. This time, I did have some new cashiers being trained and it took forever. The cashier forgot to give me something, so I had to go back to pick it up. The manager, Kyle, had great customer service skills and apologized for his staff as well as gave several coupons to make up for the inconvenience, which I appreciated.

Yes. I’m reviewing an Old Navy store. I’m shocked as well. Gather ’round children. I’m going to tell you a pointless story… I’ve been ignoring this store pretty much since the day it opened, under the assumption they would have nothing of interest to me, since they showed up while I was a teenage goth, and though I don’t dress all crazy anymore, I tend to stick to edgier clothing. Yeah… so you can see where I’m coming from. I received a Cadillac Fairview gift card as an xmas gift from work, and was in dire need of basics for work and lounging around at home. I also decided I should buy a pair of those jeans things so I could participate in casual Fridays. So off I went to Ditchmond Centre to shop. I was pleasantly surprised when I wandered into Old Navy. I headed straight for the massive wall of jeans and found at least 6 styles in my size, which NEVERHAPPENS. I sat in the fitting room for about 10 minutes trying to decide on 2 pairs. I also found a big roomy soft black sweater and some work shirts! Now I’ve got these coupons to use, so I’ll probably head back soon! My boss will be so happy that I’m not trying to hide concert t-shirts under my cardigans anymore.

There’s probably not much ground left to break with this review. I’m pretty sure everyone in this entire hemisphere has been to an Old Navy by now. This review would have been way more exciting in 1996. By now, it’s exactly what you expect! You’ve seen the warehouse-themed decorations, you’ve heard the bouncy, inoffensive disco, you’ve stood in the efficient checkout line surrounded by the cheap plastic stuff. This is all of that, exactly. But sometimes it’s just what you need. Last week, I spent an entire Saturday trying to find cheap rubber flip-flops in downtown to wear in the pool locker room. I started at Pacific Center. H&M? Not a pair in sight. Big brother Gap? Nope. American Eagle? No. Sears? Nada. I left the mall: London Drugs, Shoe Warehouse, Payless: no, no, no, not this time of year. H-Mart had some, but not for my giant gaijin feet! A specialty swim store had a pair for $ 25; I held my nose and pressed onwards across False Creek — but with each store on Cambie, the disappointment only kept building: Canadian Tire! Save-On Foods! Loonie Town! Shoppers! NONE of them had a silly pair of cheap rubber thong sandals. Epic. Fail. So this weekend, I gave in. I took the Canada Line down to the end in Richmond. Old Navy was right across the way. Of course they had my sandals, and some shirts on sale. I listened to the inoffensive disco. I stood in the efficient checkout. And you know what? I was at peace.

Great shop, selling good quality, solid, casual clothing at reasonable prices. Stuff like jeans and sweaters, that you’d wear on a nice weekend walk in the woods. Or pretty but practical dresses for a trip to the beach. On my second trip to Vancouver it was high up on my list to head here and buy more of their socks. And I still have a pair of jeans.
