Friendly server. The baked Brie was good. But sloooooow kitchen service! It took forever for our burgers and they were so over cooked there was absolutely no moisture left! And the fries were burnt to a crisp. Overpriced too.

A Sunshine Coast institution and a must stop for anyone passing through Roberts Creek. Nothing fancy, just good and wholesome.

We ate at Gumboot 2 days in a row. A cosy country restaurant with excellent service and amazingly delicious food. Should be a MUST visit for people on the Sunshine Coast. Our palates went on a roller coaster ride to heaven!

A friend of mine from Sechelt recommended we go there for dinner and what amazing food! We had the mussels and chorizo cooked with white wine as an appetizer, which was superb. I then had the duck special with braised red cabbage and mashed potatoes with a sauce that I believe was made from local berries. It was absolutely delicious. The portions were very ample and though I wouldn’t have had dessert, the salted caramel mousse with a cheese crisp and spicy pecans sounded too good to miss! So glad we ordered that, as it was beyond fantastic! Though the restaurant itself is very casual, the quality of this meal would challenge some of the best spots in Vancouver. Apparently the chef works very hard at using local food sources and they have their own greenhouse and garden, as well. Reading previous reviews, I am so surprised to hear comments about poor service, as it certainly wasn’t our experience and the waiting staff were so nice and our waitress was very helpful in her menu suggestions. All in all, a fantastic evening and I shall return next time I’m visiting the Sunshine Coast!

On our way to Sechelt and wanted to get breakfast. This is a fantastic little restaurant, extremely close to the highway and the food is fantastic. Our server was attentive, the décor very comfortable, and a lot of options for vegetarians on the menu! Would highly recommend the breakfast tostada! Definitely will be back.

Too simple and too pricy for the type of food they offer. I have been there twice and was not impressed with flavours or portions. Lovely spot, great location, nice staff, but food quality really under-delivers.

Service was mediocre and my food(salmon burger with fries & a white chocolate pudding topped with whip cream and raspberry sauce) was also mediocre. Nothing really to rave about. Location was the only reason we went there, because it was close to cabin where we were staying in Roberts Creek. Next time I think we’ll get going earlier and make the drive to another restaurant.

Wow. Wow wow wow wow wow. I have gluten and dairy allergies — the waitress and chef didn’t even blink, they knew what was up. I had the polenta fries(only complaint is that I burnt my cheek ‘cuz I stuffed my face with them too fast — WOW they are good), chorizo burger with the gf bun and the fries on the side. It was delicious. At the end of our meal they noticed my birthday was coming up. When they found out I couldn’t go out for a birthday meal due to work they packed me up a complimentary slice of the vegan gluten free quinoa cake. A note on the cake: no gluten free quinoa cake is that good. And yet, two days after the meal I have a happy belly so they have made a gluten free dairy cake that is THAT good. My only possible concern is that I’m not sure that a gluten free dairy free chocolate cake that is THAT good can be made without making blood sacrifices on a full moon or some other type of sorcery. Long story short, if you’re not sorcery adverse, you’re in a for a good meal no matter how many allergies you may have been cursed with. Either way, get the cake.

A couple of reviewers we checked out before going have rated this little jewel low for service quality. We were actually delighted with the service — we were seated in 30 seconds or less, there were smiles all around, and our food arrived in less than 15 minutes. The ambience is exactly the right mix of quirky on-the-other-side-of-the-water-on-the-other-side-of-the-border and relaxed summer getaway. My hanger steak’s perfect medium rare and sauce made up for a wee bit of chewiness, and my two daughters had clearly edible kids meals. We will be back next time we are here, and hopefully have time for deserts, too.

Spent the weekend in Roberts Creek. Two dinners and one breakfast at the Gumboot. Highlight: the Ninja Bowl, buffalo burger, the Caesar(comes with its own pickled salad, almost, of garnishings. Waiter says; «watch this. As soon as I bring yours out, everyone will want one; they’re gorgeous.» He was right. Four more ordered at our table). Garden setting. Bucolic outdoor patio lined with mature cedar hedgerow and mossy, bearded fir trees. Service is not fast, but on pace with Sunshine Coast culture.

The four stars is for the food. I love love love their food. I dream about the veggie burger. But why, oh why, is the ‘Creek Time’ thing an excuse for slow, careless, indifferent service? It’s not cool, it’s not hip, it’s just rude. Great servers make great tips.

We enjoy a bite now and then at the Gumboot. We keep meaning to get there for live music as well. The food is original and the service is great. It feels exactly what you would expect in Roberts Creek, somehow. We always enjoy seeing the local artwork on display(and for sale if it appeals to you!) The café next store has lots of atmosphere as well. Good sandwiches and nice people serving. Enjoy!

I live right down the block so I really want this to be my local joint for good food. The food is well made and veggie-forward. But the service is so bad it is becoming intolerable. Saturday at 1 pm we entered the premises. Nearly every table had already had been served so we expected relatively quick service. It took 15 minutes to have our order taken then 50 minutes to get our entrees. My wife’s soup came with her main though they were ordered separately. Three tables that came in after us received all their food before anyone came by to assure us our meal was coming. We had lost hope really. One table that came in after us was finished eating and had paid and left before our plates arrived. The server gave no explanations and seemed to avoiding us altogether. Any kind of explanation for the delay would have been welcome. By the time our food arrived my wife was so angry she couldn’t really eat it. Next time I’ll just drive to Gibsons. It’s not worth the frustration.

First, I have to say that I love good homemade food from scratch. I won’t eat food that comes from a restaurant supply company(or costco), which is what most restaurant food is. So when I describe the differences or inconsistencies of a restaurant’s dishes from visit to visit, I am actually appreciative of it, not criticizing it. I don’t mind that a sauce is a little more garlicky one day and not so garlicky the next, or that the soup is mostly beans one time and mostly vegetables the next. That’s what you get with house made food and as long as the quality of ingredients is there, the small vagaries keep it interesting. Our second dinner here was as good as the first. We ordered caesar salads WITH croutons and the croutons were fantastic. I make croutons at home and these tasted different, but as good as my own. Last time they were different and didn’t seem homemade to me. The chipotle mayo with the yam fries seems a signature dish here. The chipotle mayo was a little spicier and sharper than last time and was verrrry good, in fact, it’s good on everything. The baked potato wedges had a mild garam masala flavour and the miso gravy they came with was pretty nice. The potato texture was great. Once again we went quite early and had great service, no delays. They had dishes on the fresh sheet we would have loved to try but couldn’t get our minds off the salads and fries, so that’s all we had. We were stuffed after those and couldn’t order dessert.(Desserts come from the Gumboot Café next door.) I don’t want to gush or set this place on a pedestal, but so far, I’m really happy with what I’ve experienced. Even my non-salad eating sigo raves about their caesar.

I’m a local and I like hitting the Gumboot on occasion. Great ‘Hippie” food that will cater to people with food«issues». Service can be a bit slow and the prices are a bit high, but still worth checking out. Try to be mindful that the wait staff are not babysitters, I have noticed parents letting their kids run wild here on many occasions. Love the live music on Wednesdays if that’s still happening:)

We spent a lovely summer evening at the Gumboot. The service was a little slow to get going, but once our order had been taken everything was fine. The food was lovely. It tasted great and the quality was superb. Two of us had the chicken bacon cheese burger and it was outstanding. I can’t remember what it was called, something like BCCLT. What really stood out was the atmosphere. We had a toddler in our group and there were several others at different tables. They have a grassy area around the patio and the kids were happy to be able to play with a ball and have fun while they were waiting. No whining or tantrums. It was delightful.

This is my second review for The Gumboot Restaurant. Having heard that there had been a change in management(very exciting local news), I decided to give them another chance. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! A complete turnaround in the quality of service. I arrived with two friends for breakfast and we were offered our choice of seating by our server who was friendly and genuine. She immediately brought us menus, water, and took our coffee/tea orders. Our beverages were brought over promptly and our food order taken with diligence. The food was fantastic as always– Im just amazed at how dramatically better my experience was with a different server. Having previously waited almost an hour to be served, we were served, ate our food, and paid– all at a leisurely pace– within about an hour. Wow. Thankyou Gumboot for listening to customer feedback! Looking forward to seeing even more positive changes in the future :)

Easter brunch. Nearly perfect. Me: Bacon and tomato benny. Eggs perfectly poached. Potatoes mildly spiced. Hollandaise slightly smokey. Fabulous. Mother: Brie and asparagus omelette. «It was great. Good food. Big portions. Excellent homemade bread.» Service was a bit slow, but it looked like we came in at the tail end of a heavy rush. Room was incedibly loud at times — crashing cutlery, dropped bottle, a few loud talkers — but maybe it was just the spot we were sitting. These are somewhat trivial complaints though, considering the intriguing menu and 5 star food.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be trying the Gumboot Garden Café… but tonight, it’s all about the lovely wooden tables, quiet music and a medley of conversations ranging from prime Saturday hiking to running to catch the ferry to tales from Burning Man. Ah, this is just the way I think of the Sunshine Coast. Dining solo seems like it’s a normal occurrence: with a buddha bowl at my side and a book in my hand, the restaurant feels like it could also host a family dinner, located in the same house as Creekside Salon. With daily specials, burgers, and«hearty meals» I was in small town foodie heaven. My buddha bowl had raw and steamed veggies, brown rice, baked tofu, sesame seeds and peanut sauce. Outside of the avocado that tasted so good but felt out of place, it was perfect. It’s the only restaurant in Roberts Creek, but I have the feeling that if I was here for a week, I’d still be working my way through the robust and tasty sounding menu.
