I loved this place, the last time I went there was 1 year ago and recently it brought me some memories back. I called today to order for delivery and I was surprised that the person who answered the phone was so impolite and said that she cannot help me placing the order because they don’t offer an online menu and she didn’t have time to help me choose a chicken plate so I might wait for next time to order. I was so disappointed since they said they offer delivery but how is possible to order if they don’t provide a menu???, also if I am asking my food delivery how is possible that this girl tell me to go to the restaurant pick up the menu and then call back to order for delivery? I am so disappointed, I missed the food from that restaurant but it looks that the service is going down.

I really enjoyed my experience here! It felt authentic and not a restaurant that is catering to English Canadian norms IE: Canadian Chinese restaurants. I had to ask for help on how to order off the menu and she was more than happy to explain the process. We ended up with a huge table of raw meat, seafood, bread and veggies to grill. The table had a built in grill which was awesome, and we cooked our own food. I want to emphasize the portion size, it was massif(see my photos). We couldn’t finish it all. You definitely get your money’s worth here. A lot of the tables around us ordered communal food as well. The space is really big and great for large groups of people. Most of the tables were for 6 or more people. There didn’t seem to be any other English speaking people in the place, a real authentic experience, which I think is hard to find in Halifax. I will definitely go back.

I went to Bai Wei, upon the recommendation of an exchange student. She nicely wrote my meal on a piece of paper which I gave to the last running the restaurant. She smiled and brought me a bowl of homemade noodles with beef. It was delicious. I had a chicken wing with it. It too was very tasty. I would recommend Bai Wei to the adventurous eater. This was not a North American Chinese meal.

My friend and I stumbled upon this place while taking a shortcut through Queen Street as we were going to head to the Fickle Frog on Spring Garden Road. We decided to give the spot a chance and it turned out to be a great decision; the establishment had only been open for 6 days, but you couldn’t tell from the organization and set-up of the dining area. There is a small bar area to your left as you enter the main entrance and several tables on your right that are already set up with small grills that are ready to prepare the food right in front of you. The service was friendly and efficient; moreover, the servers kept refilling our chinese tea and would help us cook the raw meat they originally brought to us as we ordered a meat buffet with chinese bread and various vegetables. Now whether or not this great service was due in part because they just opened and were looking to establish themselves is a possibility, but I didn’t get that impression. For those people that like things done at a quick pace then this isn’t the spot for you; however, you will get your money’s worth and then some. A couple of interesting side-notes to our visit. First, the only menus they had were in Chinese, so the server had to tell us in English what some of the specials were, and secondly we were given cream puffs for dessert after our buffet which surprised us as we didn’t know they came with the package. The bathrooms were very clean and there are also a couple of private rooms in the back with chairs and a table in each room, so I’m not sure whether you can eat in these private rooms or not, but I will check up on this on our next visit.
