We are Zen Buddhist students and our living room serves as zendo. Guests are invited to sit with us if they feel like it, and we provide accurate Rinzai Zen instructions free of charge. At the same time we are tolerant and respectful to other faiths and practices.

Squamish is called the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada, which means there are literally dozens of outdoor activities: bouldering, rock climbing, wind surfing, kite boarding, sailing, white water kayaking, rafting, diving, horsebak riding, golf, fishing etc.

We’re downtown, two blocks to the Greyhound bus stop and shopping center.

The library is on our block.

History

Established in 2000.

We started out as a summer school for our Taiwanese students. My wife and I were both English as a Second Language teachers in Hsinchu, Taiwan. So we got a hostel license and brought them to Squamish for a month at a time.

When I retired, we chose Squamish as the best place on the planet, if you are into the outdoors. Since we like young people, we decided to continue the process of housing and feeding the young or young-at-heart guests. So almost every evening we have a good supper and wonderful conversations with visitors from all over the globe.

Meet the Business Owner

Ivan M.

Business Owner

Born in Budapest of Bulgarian father and Hungarian mother, I migrated to Montréal at an early age. Most of my formal education was in Montréal, where I studied Psychology and Film at Concordia University.

Having worked at a large number of jobs from clerk to salesman, from treeplanter to carpenter, I tried to experience life in as many facets as I could, because in my heart I have always been a writer.

Although I have translated an anthology of Eastern wisdom, written poetry, a novel, short stories, childrens’ stories and plays, publication is yet to come.

In university I was a filmmaker, writing, producing, acting, eventually Executive Producing my university’s first feature length movie.

When thus ripened in active life and the craft of writing, I moved to Taiwan where I spent twenty happy years teaching English from ABC to freshman level. I love to read, write, travel, cook, garden, sail, and ride my Beemer motorcycle.
