I decide to check out Bikram Yoga St. Albert after falling in love with Moksha Hot Yoga. What’s different about Bikram is that the practice is identical no matter where you go. Bikram is always the same series of 26 poses/postures called asana. If you want to read more about the history of the practice and want an idea of what to expect, check out This studio is located in Circle Drive in the Campbell Business Park of St. Albert just north of Servus Place. One thing very different about Bikram Yoga is that the practice is done in a carpeted room! I did some googling and it looks like there are special carpets made for this and they clean the carpet daily with a tea tree oil blend so you will notice that smell when you come in. I have come six times now and enjoyed the practice with three different instructors. All instructors are available for a chat pre-post class and I recommend letting them know if you have any injuries or concerns so that they can offer you modifications to the poses. The first half of class is done standing with the second half sitting/laying down on the mat. If you come to the 90 minute session, each pose is done twice and if you come to the 60 minute session the floor series is done only once resulting in the shorter class. There is a lovely sitting room with magazines, lots of natural light, and plenty of seating. The washroom(women’s) has always been clean and stocked wit a few necessities. There are lockers if you would like to lock up your items just bring a lock. I highly recommend bringing an extra towel for a shower afterwards as you will be DRENCHED. I’m not convinced yet that Bikram Hot Yoga will be my favourite but I’m giving it a real try this month going 2−3x a week. i have noticed improvements in my flexibility and strength in the past two weeks and I can definitely see adding this in my regular workout routine once a week or every other week. They offer monthly unlimited passes as well as drop-in. I noticed a sign up for a current special available on October 17&18th for 10 drop-in passes for $ 97 which is a great deal and a way to try out the practice or would make a great gift for someone this holiday season. As noted by the previous reviewer, the practice can get expensive but then again your health’s value has no limit! I’d suggest checking them out on fb, twitter, or their website to keep abreast of current promotions: If you are coming for your first time, definitely wear snug fitting clothes — shorts and a tank or sports bra; I personally prefer a wicking material and not cotton. Be sure to drink plenty of water the day before the class but not too much just before class or you’ll likely be water logged. They recommend only taking sips of water during class but hydrate again like crazy after class.

While I am not a super fan of the founder of this yoga style, I enjoy this studio. The instructors are very nice, the change rooms are clean, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. The big issue I have is the cost. It is not cheap to practice here.
