Came here because of the good Unilocal reviews but sadly wasn’t that impressed… I got the Bento box type lunch combo didn’t come in a Bento box. The salad was a few wilted pieces of lettuce, dressing was good though. The gyoza was all stuck together, one of the pieces didn’t even get any of the yummy crispy griddle marks on it like good gyoza should! The tempura and California roll was pretty good, they charge for green tea. I suppose if I lived Summerland without a car I would possibly eat here again but as it stands chances of it happening again are pretty rare. Would be pretty easy for this place to go to four stars with a tiny bit of work!

Awesome sushi made by authentic Japanese sushi chef. The sushi rice is made with the correct rice vinegar/sugar proportion and texture is perfect. The tempura prawns and vegetables are not greasy and is cooked to perfection. Prices and quality are comparable to 4 star sushi restaurants in downtown Vancouver.

Fabulous Sushi in the small town of Summerland BC. Just tasted a brand new roll called the Wasabi Roll, a must try!

Surprisingly nice Japanese restaurant in the middle of Summerland. The food is good albeit a bit pricey. My kind of small business.

Decent Japanese restaurant considering they’re a few hours away from the sea. They served different coloured seaweed which was unusual.

Just ok. We really wanted to love this place, but it was just average. We had a group of 8 and we made a reservation, but that was probably not necessary as the place was mostly empty. There was a table of screaming(no joke, screaming) kids on the other side of the restaurant, which wasn’t a great start. Our service was good and prompt. The servers were friendly. Our group of 8 ordered a wide variety of items including sushi, tempura, sashimi, and ramen. The sushi was fine, nothing bad and nothing wow. The tempura was the problem area. Several people at the table ordered different tempura items(veggies, soft shelled crab, shrimp) and it was all slightly burned. Tempura shouldn’t have dark brown edges and be chewy. I was definitely disappointed with all of the tempura. The pork gyoza were ok but with our hungry bunch, we still left tempura and gyoza on the plate. I know I’m from a big city and spoiled for Japanese options but I still think items shouldn’t be burned dish after dish. I would revisit but I would only get sushi items. The wide variety of Japanese items available for purchase in the front of the store are great and I’d definitely purchase from that area.

It had been a long morning, so my order was hasty and ill-thought out(and ultimately not very good) but everyone else’s was delicious. Some of our party weren’t crazy about this particular cuisine, but I tried their plates as well, and they ewe just as delicious. Personal taste can change the best food! My favorite part was definitely the spicy salmon sushi! Yum yum yum!

A most excellent discovery in little Summerland a place not known for adventurous dining! Our favorite Fish and Chips place is still undergoing repairs and we needed some sustenance when we realized that a new(to us – apparently they’ve been open a year) Japanese Bistro had opened in the space formerly occupied by another fave The Vanilla Pod. Sushi in Summerland? We were up for an adventure! These enterprising folk have taken the space next door to double the size of the restaurant as it existed and remodeled everything to create a pleasant and comfortable ambiance. Service was impeccable, attentive and pleasant. The menu is amazingly extensive considering the size of the kitchen. In addition to the usual sushi bar staples(California roll, miso soup, edamame, tempura etc) they had some really inventive rolls with local flavor. A Summerland roll featured sweet real crab, curried potato fritters served with a sauce that tasted like pureed chutney that were ‘lick the plate’ yummy! Clearly a family business, Dad rolling up a storm in the kitchen and mom with tot-on-back bustling around the dining room making sure everything was working. In addition to hot and cold sake there is also an impressive list of local wines. A most excellent treat and a great addition to Summerland! If there were an improvement to be suggested it would the addition of some combination plates or perhaps some lunchbox type meals.
