Tasty, juicy. Had the half n half. Quite a bit of chicken for two. We have lots of left overs. We also ordered the corn cheese. It’s literally corn with cheese melted throughout. For some reason I was expecting something different. It was good though. Found out after the meal you can order sides of rice, it’s just not listed on the menu.

Do yourself a favour and order the half and half with a pitcher of beer. Perfect for two people.

Mom and pop kind of place. So if you’re looking for excellent legendary customer service and a phenomenal experience then this is not the place, but if you’re looking for somewhere private to have a warm get together with your friends then you will like it here. Only had the chilli cheese chicken, that was bomb. Tips: you can actually peel off the cheese on the plate and eat it. They play lots of hip hop and old school pop and kpop. Odd, but fitting. The dim lighting makes me giggle. The lady serving us was lovely. They don’t just give you water, for some reason… Had to ask for it.

Fried chicken, beer & soju. You honestly don’t need anything else. My only con with this place is that they don’t open until late. We started with the squid as an appy, was kinda shocked to see it was an entire squid that had been cut up but it was surprisingly delicious, I recommend trying it! Then we had the half-and-half original /marinated fried chicken and it was amazing, ended up ordering the cheese fried chicken dish as well and it was amazing.

this is the best fried chicken place. my favorite one for many years. cheese buldak is so delicious as well. I always order a whole chicken with a sauce on the side. The sauce should be a bit more spicy though. Service is just average and sometimes slow. It’s run by an older couple, so I don’t expect much service. Ask for white radish pickles as they don’t give it to non-Koreans.

Mediocre, overpriced and horrible service. I’ve been to many korean town chicken restaurants and have never been so disappointed than going to this hole in the wall. The menu for Boom Beer is extremely minimal. They have a handful of fried boneless chicken platters at the usual ½ or full size platters appropriate for sharing, as well as a select number of spicy soups, and of course beer. We ordered a ½ order of the cheese chicken(which also comes with ricecakes layered underneath) and the fish cake oden. =Food= The cheese chicken was mediocre at best, and largely overpriced for the amount of chicken on the plate. On average the chicken pieces were about a third of other korean chicken vendors(daeji, big chicken town). The presentation was decent with a homemade flavour /style. This dish is very spicy, we requested the dish be made mild, but it still made us want at least an extra glass of water. The fish cake oden was also lacklustre. Being priced at nearly $ 10 this dish was basically herby, spicy water with a few pieces of underflavored fish cakes lazily thrown in. In comparison, simiarly priced odens at Guu and other japanese places contain much more flavor and substance. 2⁄5 stars. =Service= Truthfully this restaurant is quite small, with barebones décor and minimal staffing, so the food quality could be lightly overlooked if the service was decent. We came here on a cold and rainy Thursday night in November and requested hot water(as they did not even have tea on request). The«waitress» stated that they did not have hot water and cold water was all they could suffice. Absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore we requested a refill of our tap water in which she simply handed us gave us a container of water which was only 1⁄3 filled. During our stay, there were also another party who left halfway through their dinner to have a smoke steps outside the restaurant doors. Being an asthmatic and sensitive to smoke, I found the lack of concern by the waitress extremely unsatisfactory. 1⁄5 stars. On the interior Boom Beer looks like a cheaply renovated, previous Indian restaurant that couldn’t spare any extra funds for a modern tv that could at least compliment its beer-bar vibe. Occasionally such restaurants prove themselves as hidden gems with quality food and/or service, but unfortunately Boom Beer falls flat on both regards. Overall if you’re looking for a place to smoke and drink, and experience terrible service — great, you’ve found it, but otherwise please spare yourself the trouble of visiting this hidden and subpar korean chicken eatery. There are plenty other great korean restaurants in the guildford area.

The owner is so friendly and service is quick. I loved the fried chicken… Next time I’ll be ordering the full order so I have left overs!

Korea’s best kept secret, tucked away in Guildford city… Every ethnic community knows of these no frills attached restaurants that are not popularized through mass marketing and social media, this haven is that for Korean Food fast food. I tried the Chicken Cheese buldak here for the first time. «Bul» meaning fire and«dak“meaning chicken i. e Fire Chicken! The dish became popular in Korea only a decade ago for its spiciness. According to Wikipedia! My favourites: Cheese buldak Fried chicken

Legit fried chicken. I ordered a half-and-half of the original & marinated fried chicken. The original was tasty! Loved the seasoning, crispy skin, non-greasy, ultra-juicy meat. Not spicy at all. The marinated comes doused in a chili & tomato sauce? It was a bit too spicy for me. Apparently the cheese one is even spicier — which I could brave it! Also ordered the corn with butter & cheese — served in a skillet, tastes like you would expect but a bit pricey for $ 8.50 I wouldn’t come out of the way for this, but it is a good stop if you’re in the hood. Opens at 4pm.

Took 20 minutes to get water… It’s a small deceiving place but don’t let it fool you! We ordered the chilli cheese chicken and half Fried. I say it was tasty and only issue is one waitress vs 12 customers = long ass wait! I’d possibly come here again, but I’d rather pay $ 2 – 5 more and get double the portion and cleaner establishment at Dasarang or Mexican chicken on north road! Maybe it’s just cause I’m korean so I’m picky with my korean food? lol

So maybe you are like me and have been put off by fried chicken in the past due to what I consider to be decline in fast food quality chicken. Don’t get me wrong, KFC has a time and a place, but there are better options for chicken. Like Boom Beer for starters. There are a few Korean Chicken style places around town, and Boom Beer maybe the one that’s the most obscure. If you don’t know what you are looking for, you will walk right by the place since it just blends right in. It doesn’t help that the sign is in Korean with the only English word being Café. If you need better directions, it is lodged between K-Town BBQ and Domino’s Pizza. For those that may be unfamiliar with what to expect with Korean chicken, the best way to sum it up is like comparing McDonald’s burgers to a burger joint like Vera’s or 5 Guys. Basically you are getting fresh, juicy, piping hot fried chicken versus chicken that has been sitting under a heating element for a few hours. Of course, it is served with a Korean twist. Now, chicken and beer is at this point pretty much a Korean staple. If you visit Korea, every neighborhood has a few chicken and Hof places that people will order from with alarming frequency. You might be saying to yourself, I know what chicken is, but what the heck is Hof? I asked myself the same question during my trip to Korea last year. As it turns out, Hof is synonymous with beer in Korea. Putting two and two together shows that Hof(perhaps the name of a brewery or region in Germany) became something of an adopted term for beer in Korea. On to the restaurant. There really isn’t anything special to write about when it comes to the atmosphere for this place. It is, however, clean and the hardwood bench along the wall provides a nice accent to the rest of the décor. See if you can spot the multiple chicken statuettes around the restaurant. The music that plays is of the Kpop variety, and most of the songs I heard there were at least a couple years old. I figure that when it is busy, it just sort of fades away into the background. We went during the daytime, just before 6pm on a Friday, and we were the only ones there. Service was prompt, and the lady was friendly. She does speak English, so not to worry there if you don’t speak Korean. The menu has English written on it in smaller print, but it is there. We ended up ordering a half dish of regular fried chicken, and the cheese fire(direct translation, it’s a bit spicy) chicken. Oh where do I begin. The spicy cheese chicken comes piping hot and the cheese is just starting to melt on top of the red pepper paste marinade sauce. I can’t do it justice in trying to explaining it other than it is a perfect combination of sweet, spicy and savory. The chicken comes on top of Korean rice cakes() and it just works. Make sure you stir it up and mix it around for maximum flavor. The regular fried chicken may just be the best fried chicken you’ve never had. It is cooked fresh, it is crispy, flaky and super juicy. It’s also really tasty. On top of that it isn’t really greasy either like other fried chicken. A quick wash of your hands wipes away any grease and smell. This is a big plus and difference when compared to fast food chains. I didn’t have a beer, but the coke I did have was super cold so it came very chilled with the«frozen foam» on top. I can only imagine their beer is the same. The only side dish that you get are freshly diced radish cubes in a sort of sweet/vinegar sauce. It compliments the chicken nicely. The regular fried chicken comes with some coleslaw, except instead of a mayo base sauce, it is topped with ketchup. It too, is ok. The prices may be a little higher than what you would expect to pay for fried chicken, but it is quite the norm for Korean fried chicken. Dishes range from $ 10 for a half order to around $ 20 for a full serving. My brother and I racked up a $ 54 between the two of us with the stupid amount of chicken we ate. It was worth it. All in all, the chicken is fresh, tasty and just all around fantastic. Chicken lovers, you would be doing yourself a disfavor by not checking this place out and trying the amazing poultry they have to offer.

Saw a review of this restaurant on a blog and decided to give it a try since we live close by. This place is located in the same«mall» as Wendy’s and it’s right beside Domino’s Pizza. They didn’t have a take-out menu and so I can only remember the names as was told to me by the cashier/waitress. We ordered the chicken platter, 14 pieces, 7 dry and 7 wet, for approximately $ 15. She said that if we order by phone to just refer to them as «normal chicken’ or «marinated chicken.» We felt that the dry pieces tasted better than the wet ones, very juicy(made to order), kind of like Church’s chicken but a slightly differently flavour. The marinated chicken was like sweet and sour except it was also spicy. In addition to that we also got the chicken/cheese/rice cake dish, and it tasted like Joon’s tabletop cooking from Toronto Korean Town. The picture provided by the blog and their menu looked really appetizing with the cheese stringy and stuff, but we did take-out and the cheese has already melted in the food so we didn’t see much cheese. All in all it was a good dish though so I’d recommend it. One thing to note is, they don’t do soup take-outs. We had it last Saturday and is planning to go again this Friday.

This is a true hole in the wall. Very difficult to see and locate if you haven’t been here before. It is ensconced in a strip mall across from VanCity Savings and Hanako Japanese Restaurant, just south of Guildford Mall. It is sandwiched between a much larger korean bbq restaurant(Red somthing) and a Domino’s pizza. Look for the neon«Open» sign and«Boom Beer» on the door. So why should you bother with this place? Let me give you a hint. They have the best, juiciest fried chicken I’ve ever had in my life. The skin is so crispy with fascinating depths of flavor and seasoning. The meat is plump and overflowing with fluids. My previous fav fried chicken place was LA chicken in Richmond, but this place rocks it way better. The beer is also inexpensive, cold, and sweet. Popcorn is provided as a complimentary snack. She even gave us a delicious bowl of steamed egg custard with salmon roe. Excellent combo. They don’t bother with english menus. The menus we got were in korean only.(I think they probably do have english menus somewhere, but I just didn’t see them.) All the writing on the walls are in korean. The korean music is from two decades ago. I personally felt that it suited the atmosphere and the mood better. During weekends, this place is packed with korean families enjoying fried chicken and beer. They also got the little doorbell button on every table for you to summon a server. Don’t worry, they all speak english pretty well here. As a hang out place for a bunch of friends, its hard to beat for the price, food, and atmosphere.
