Had the chicken Schwarma platter– it was delicious! The owners were super sweet and the food was flavourful. I’ll be back next time I’m in the area– a great spot for a quick and yummy lunch!

Had the lamb donair for 6.99, and it wasn’t worth it. The lamb was tasteless, cold and not fresh. Usually for donairs the lamb is cooking on a metal«spear» but theirs wasn’t, just really bad lamb, can’t say anything good about it. Sauce was tzatziki, it was so bland, no tang, didn’t get any flavour out of it. I will never ever be coming back.

Went here when searching for a shawarma place in surrey. Surprisingly hard to find a shawarma place in surrey but apparently I live essentially across the street from this place for a couple years. Anyways this place is great in a surprise find for a hole in the wall kind of way. Very Mom and Pop and great little personable kind of atmosphere. Food and service us first rate. I am going back and if the food holds up to multiple visits this will be a 5 star revue shortly.

It seems like there are foods that are common to different cultures. The details themselves differ, but the general idea is the same. I have to think that mixed rice based dishes are one of the most common dishes you will find world wide. The Japanese have Donburi, Koreans have Bibimbap, and Middle Eastern cultures have Shawarma. Let me start by saying I love shawarma. I can’t get enough of it, and I crave it constantly because it is akin to a flavour explosion in your mouth. Now that that is out of the way, let me talk about Sofi’s Shawarma & Donairs. I only happened to notice this place(or sign more like) by accident one day while going to the Starbucks in this tiny mall. I made a mental note of it, and swore that if I was ever in the area again I would come back and visit. Today happened to be that day. It appears that Sofi’s is a family run operation, and the people who run it(at least that is what I assume) are super friendly. It has a real mom & pop feel to it, and Pop(sorry I didn’t catch their names) is super, super, super friendly. He likes to make conversation while he prepares your food, and genuinely seems like a very happy person. He is super respectful(called me Sir constantly as he was preparing my food) and seems to be an avid Canucks fan. I base this observation on the fact that he listens to the Team 1040 all day, and has several framed Canucks posters/pictures. The Décor. Not really a whole lot to write home about here, don’t expect anything fancy aside from some standard tables, and chairs. You don’t go for shawarma expecting a fancy dining experience. That being said, the establishment is clean and well maintained, and that’s all you can really ask for. Sofi’s doesn’t take credit cards, but you an pay via cash/debit. The Food. Here is the meat of the review. I opted for the Chicken Shawarma($ 8.99). The meat is well prepared and flavourful and once blended with the rest of the platter makes for a great eating experience. The tomatoes are thickly sliced(I do wish they were diced) but no real complaints otherwise. The shawarma is served on a stainless metal plate and eaten with a plastic fork, which is about on par with other shawarma places. All in all the shawarma served here meets my expectations of what I believe Shawarma should be. There isn’t any variation from the norm, and that is to be expected. You really can’t go wrong with solid fare like this. Would I go again? Absolutely. Next time I’m in the area I will make it a point to go and get some Shawarma from Sofi’s. There is a serious dearth of Shawarma places in Surrey, and I am glad I visited this place. A can of coke and platter of chicken shawarma cost me $ 11.50 after tax(likely to go down after April.1/2013 due to the change back to GST/PST). If you are in the area, and crave donair or shawarma, be sure to check out Sofi’s.
