The location is not the best but the restaurant did a very good job by creating a different atmosphere inside. Waitresses wearing japanese outfits and nice music. The food is ok, sometimes the tuna smells fishy but in general it’s ok. No special rolls and all is basic The prices are reasonable

This place is definitely a hidden gem. I highly recommend this place if you’re visiting Surrey. I’ve seen this place several times, and I thought that it may not be good since the outside surrounding looks sketchy. You can never really judge a book by its cover. As soon as you enter this restaurant, you’d instantly feel the Japanese style culture. Everyone is wearing their kimonos, and the inside looks pretty authentic. Seems like a family owned restaurant, and they’re all Japanese. They greeted us right away. The service was excellent. The food was very tasty and authentic Japanese flavour. The place is very clean as well. I actually want to come back to this place. It’s now one of my favourite restaurants in the Lower Mainland.

Food was really good! If you are looking for real authentic Japanese food THIS is it! If you ever go to Japan you’ll know that all Japanese restaurant has to have a certify chief. They have a special distinction certificate posted at the front as it’s required in order for the restaurant to be open. I believe THIS is one of them. Fresh Fresh!

Food was okay but not worth it’s price and wait, since i had to wait for a long time for just a small sushi combo…

Yes, authentic sushi exists in the wilds of Surrey! Tokachi is owned and operated by a family from Japan. The Nigiri is excellent but I have yet to try the Sashimi. For those who don’t like raw fish there is a good selection of cooked dishes as well. There is also a selection of rolls for the gaijin but I don’t bother with those. I know Tokachi is located in a not very nice part of Surrey so I wouldn’t go there when it’s dark; my visits have been either weekday lunch or spring/summer for dinner when it’s still daylight. The décor may not be the most modern, but the restaurant is clean and the food is delicious. Tokachi is a refreshing change from the Chinese/Korean roll emporiums that plague Metro Vancouver. Once you’ve ate authentic sushi at Tokachi, you’ll never want to return to a Chinese/Korean roll emporium.

My go to for Japanese. The owners and staff are actually Japanese which is a rarity in Surrey/Langley. Food is absolutely delicious, really authentic. Staff are friendly but they can be a bit slow on busy nights. Definitely the best Japanese restaurant in Surrey/Langley.

Food is really«Japanese». Everything is very fresh. Like the store environment, old but clean&tidy. A bit expensive, but worth the money!

Four Points for Four Stars 1. Have the gyoza. Then order another order. Because you’ll want one. 2. Their sushi is awesome. So eat some. To each his own on what you like but holy hotate was that good. 3. The service is always outstanding. Never had bad service(or bad sushi. Did I mention the sushi was good?) 4. Their dynamite roll is not like other dynamite rolls. I’d argue it’s better. We cross the bridge to come to dinner because we like it better than nearly every other sushi spot in New West. Don’t let the exterior fool you. Great restaurant.

Service for the food to arrive is generally slow, but the waitress that often serves us is always pleasant and helpful. The auntie at the front cashier always greets us when we arrive and when we leave. Our regular go-tos are the oyster motoyakis, spider roll, deep fried roll and ebi sunomono. We also like the beef sashimi. The sauces the restaurant uses are amazing, like the sauce for the motoyaki and the butter lemon sauce for the fried scallop. As for sashimi the toro(tuna belly) is really good here(as another reviewer already mentioned). Yes it’s true that the restaurant location is in a seedy area(a liquor store is just nearby) but it’s just hilarious how the restaurant has neon lights and signs which is kinda tacky but the food inside is awesome! Five stars for that! !!!

I was skeptical at first because a) its in an awful part of town and b) it looks tacky and sketchy from the outside. BUT, definitely can’t judge a book by it’s cover. The food is authentic and high quality. I was so incredibly surprised that this level of cuisine came out of that level of storefront. Easily one of the best if not the best sushi joints in Surrey. The service was a bit on the slow side which is why I docked a star from this review. But what they lacked in service they ultimately made up for in quality. I’d probably still keep valuables locked up at home or take them with me as the parking lot did have quite a few vagrants wandering around.

This is an addendum to my previous review: I returned to Tokachi this past Saturday Night. Sadly, I must report that the service was incredibly slow and I got the feeling my business wasnt really appreciated this time. It took 10 mins to get a menu, another 10+ to get my soda, another 15+ to place my order and around 30 mins to actually get my dinner! Was it busy… Well, they had 3 servers and 3 kitchen staff and I counted 20 people in the whole restaurant — Let’s just say no one was in much of a hurry! I am sad about this because as usual, the food was very good. I was only smiled at when I was paying and leaving! One more thing… it’s kind of classless to demand tips when running thru my debit card to pay!(The way the POS is set up it asks for a tip first)… :(

Operated by Japanese which means the fish is often times more fresh and the portion are great(not too big) We enjoyed their Zaru soba and tempura dish and the deluxe assorted sushi. I also liked their Agadashi tofu which they give generous blocks of tofu. I will have to come back and try their others dishes. The restaurant is really spacious and great for families. They have the traditional tatami rooms for those who like more privacy and the fun of being in those closed rooms.

I cannot give enough compliments to Tokachi! It has been my favourite Japanese restaurant ever since I discovered it. It’s located in a rough part of Surrey on King George. Family owned by a Japanese couple. I have been there so many times, but not even once were they busy. They are not some random cheap sushi places you can find anywhere on the street. For the quality and quantity of food, they offer very reasonable price! If you want fresh sashimi and nigiri sushi, you have to give them a try. And they have some rare items on their menu such as oyster nigiri and sea urchin nigiri. I personally don’t eat those things… but my friends always seem to enjoy them! One of my favourite nigiri is Unagi. Very meaty and flavourful! And sockeye salmon sashimi garnished with lemon is also one of the best. If you love tempura, then you wouldn’t be disappointed by their assorted tempura. Not only do they have shrimp and yam, but also fish, green bean and some other vegetables. A plate full of tempuras for only $ 12. Tokachi truly offers fresh and consistently good quality food. They have never disappointed me!

Every time I come here I’m never let down. Real Japanese food made and served by Japanese. The place maybe a little dated as in tables but it’s as authenticate add you can get and you feel it right away. They were so attentive and understanding that they helped use right away. They didn’t know we understood Japanese and we heard them talking about how they could help us. Awesome service!!! Food was great! Definitely be back! *I mentioned it was a little dated but very clean! Give it a shot you’ll love it!

One of the best authentic Japanese restaurant in Surrey. This restaurant have been here for more than 15 years if not more. Owned and operated by Japanese who dished up some of the best quality Japanese food in town. I go there for sashimi and although they are not cheap eats, the quality and freshness more than makes up for the price. I always go for the Chirashi dish. Has a balance size portion of rice under mounts of sashimi, they are one of my favourite. Also a favourite of mine is the tuna tataki. Yum! A must try…

Since moving from Vancouver to surrey, we were in desperate need of a quality sushi place, and we found it. You walk in and are transported into the nicest sushi place. The staff are pleasant and knowledgeable, and the food is excellent. They use top quality fish and their rolls are well made. We love going and have never had a complaint

I’m Japanese and love this restaurant. If you order the complete dinner set, you might have a sunomono(food in sweetened vinegar) as a starter and I love their balance of sugar and vinegar. It’s better than what my mom makes in Japan ;) Usually I order Tempura zaru soba without ice cubes. As the ice cubes are placed under noodle, it looks big amount of noodle. From second time, I don’t need such a trick. Also it’s annoying to catch noodles without cubes. I have also ordered hot Tempura soba the other time. Unfortunately the broth was so light. I needed more punch. The cashier lady and sushi chef are funny. I love them!

Alright Unilocalers! You’ve swayed me again to try a new Japanese dive, and this time, you nailed it! Although, again, from the exterior and surrounding area of this restaurant, I was a little skeptical about going in here, the interior was very authentic and left no surprises. The service was great and quick. The menu has a wide variety of choices and photos to help you decide. It is a little pricey, but worth it Oh my goodness, everything we ordered was amazing! The Saba Shoiyaki was probably the best thing, I could have ordered 5 of those. It was cooked to perfection! All of our rolls and cones were just as delicious. Bill came to about $ 40 with tip, awesome! For great food, Quality– not quantity, go here! I will definitely be back!
