Dried Nuts & Fruits Tavazo

I confess that the chandeliers lured me into Tavazo. Why are they here? I guess the answer is why not. Once inside, Tavazo looks like any bulk barn style store, except for the glamorous chandeliers. I wandered around for a good 10 minutes. The storekeepers didn’t bother me nor stop me from «taste testing». First thing I learned — Tavazo have many berries that I have never heard of. Second thing — when Middle Easterners said hot, they meant the word. I bought Hot Mixed Nuts. I thought my mom would love them. Mom returned them to me after an hour, saying they were too hot.
Guess you know where to buy your ultra hot mixed nuts now.

The people are so nice. I come here for the almond powder/​mill as I make a lot of macarons at home. I always end up spending at least $ 20 because you really get a big bang for your bucks. Forget Bulk Barn and come here for your nuts and dried fruits. Don’t forget to pick up a bag of pistachios!

Tavazo has the freshest and most assorted pistachios in the city. Also carry sugar free chocolate covered raisins and almonds.

Man… do I miss this place! Tavazo does offer the best nuts in town and the freshness has always blown my mind. It has been a while since my last visit but I can still see the plump dried fruits and varieties of pistachios and almonds (among others) beautifully laid out in their stainless steel containers.
I may have to plan a trip in the next couple of weeks to grab some goodies for the Chinese new year!

The fruits ‘n nuts version of Bulk Barn! Aside from dried fruits, nuts, they also sell some spices, candy, Turkish Delights, and some baklava (although that’s prepackaged).
I came in to pick up some treats for New Year’s Day, picking up some Jumbo Pistachios, Mixed Nuts, & some Macadamia Nuts. Mixed nuts were a good value and Macs were cheaper than BB. Total for a bit of 3 items was $ 14+.
(They were also fresher than another ethnic grocery store where I recently purchased them. On the brink of going rancid! :S)
Anyway, since things are by weight, they can quickly add up! Good selections for fruits/​nuts and fresh.

Tavazo has everything for your middle-​eastern snacking needs.
The selection of pistachios at Tavazo is quite impressive; they basically have every flavour available. I bought a small amount of unsalted pistachios; they were fresh, crunchy and made for a great healthy snack. In addition to their wide array of pistachios they also have an assortment of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, as well as some candy and chocolate. The most surprising thing I saw was the chocolate covered ginger, a fellow Unilocaler and I had never heard of this treat before and inquired about the taste, the lady behind the counter was awesome and let us sample it (it was surprisingly good).
The store itself is a good size; everything is nicely displayed and sold by weight. Next time I am in the area I will stop in to get my Middle Eastern snack fix.

Buying by bulk, you can also get as much or as little as you need.
This is the original and first location of Tavazo. The newer one just North of Major Mackenzie on Yonge is a lot more spacious and have more dry goods.

Best pistachios in town, great selection, and well worth a trip for any pistachio lover!
While living in London I discovered pistachios from Iran. Sweet, almost buttery in flavor, absolutely delicious and one of my all time favorite treats. Yes, I consider pistachios a treat like one might consider chocolate.
Most of the pistachios I’ve found in Toronto are from California and although the California ones have gotten better, I still prefer the ones from Iran.
A Persian friend introduced me to Tavazo when I was telling him how much I missed the pistachios from Iran I’d get in London. He brought me a bag one day and I was hooked.
Personally I love the jumbo, roasted, unsalted pistachios but they have many different kinds, including a sour one using lemon juice.
The jumbo, roasted, unsalted still tasted like they have a little salt but definitely a lot less than the usual.
It’s all by weight so you can pick up as little or as much as you like. They also had a lot of other treats like dried fruits, middle eastern sweets, honey, and rose water but I saw nothing but pistachios.

Like pistachios? Want a choice of large, jumbo, round, sour, kernels, slivered??? This place has SELECTION. Best salted pistachios I’ve ever had, and the sour version (flavoured with lemon juice) is worth a try too. This clean, bright store also offers tons of other nuts, seeds, dried fruit, chocolate-​covered this, yoghurt-​covered that, and it’s all great quality.
This is an Iranian, family-​owned business, so some of the treats are of a middle-​eastern origin and might be unfamiliar, but it offers a great introduction to the delicacies of another culture.
Here’s the kicker… you know that large barn-​like bulk store that discourages you from tasting? This place encourages it! They have containers available for you to throw your shells.
Yup, it’s out of the way, but worth the trip if you can make it.
