History

Established in 2013.

On September 18^th, 1998, Jet Simon was born at only 26 weeks. Due to his prematurity, doctor’s explained the likelihood of Jet developing learning difficulties was high, Jet’s mom, Joey Simon decided to train in the principles of Montessori education to help and encourage Jet in his learning.

As artists, Jet’s parents shared their love of art. When Jet became a toddler, he and Joey would go to the library and read art books, then come home and paint. Jet was especially interested in the life stories of the artists.

Four year old Jet’s paintings and art stories were impressive. Other parents asked Joey if she would consider offering art workshops for children. 4Cats was born!

The name 4Cats is inspired by the 4Cats Café in Barcelona, Spain. The 4Cats Café (Els Quatre Gats) is the place where Picasso went with artist, poet and philosopher friends to discuss art and life and make and show great art!

How did you first hear about 4Cats?

As soon as I set foot in Jen the Pen’s studio in Oakville, I knew it was something I needed to be a part of! It’s such an energizing and positive space, and working with kids in this capacity is just incredible.

I spent two-​and-​a-​half years as a teacher there, and am so excited to be part of 4Cats St. Clair West!

Why 4Cats?

It’s amazing. Coming to work every day is so much fun! Seeing the development in our students’ skill and confidence is one of the most rewarding things I’ve experienced.

What’s your favourite colour?

Green! It’s so fresh and energizing.
