Bar Hop

This bar doesn’t play around. I went in with zero expectations and left feeling ‘quite nice.’ The bartender was quick to suggest the ‘manliest’ of whiskies while enjoying my attempts to ‘enjoy’ their taste.
Great bar for people who either know absolutely everything about their drinks and liqueurs or people who love to get abused by bartenders who find pleasure in watching people order drinks FAR beyond their drink tolerance haha. Overall great place, would definitely go back again! (This time with a bit more knowledge under my belt).

Can’t believe I haven’t put a review in for Bar Hop yet!?! I am a fan of BarHop and Brewco for a long time now. Obviously the main attraction is the rotating taps of goodness but the food pairings are not a distant second. Specials are always good and I keep saying I will try the oysters next time I am there. The only downside is before Brewco the place would get rammed and you would have to put your name on the chalk board, since then I have only been during the lunch hours and had no problems but will update the review next time I am there at night.

Really liked their old fashioned bourbon and who doesnt love a buck a shuck? was happy to be able to just walk in on a tuesday night (after a disappointing meal at Fring’s) to grab a drink and and a dozen oysters.

What a sweet spot! Excellent menu of drinks, great choices for top shelf liquors. You can even have a scotch or bourbon flight!
I think the most amazing thing about this place is Darian, the bartender/​manager. Watching him behind the bar pour multiple drinks, while playing vinyl records, while doing ten other things at once is worth the visit alone.
The drinks are very well made and the food is pretty great too. We will definitely be back.

Visited this place with my husband and a friend on a Saturday night. It was packed but we were first on the waiting list and were seated pretty quickly. We were super hungry so ordered drinks and food, was told it would be a ~20 minute wait for the food to come. Well it ended up being well over an hour before our food was ready and served. We were repeatedly assured it would come out soon and were almost ready to walk out (there was a taco place nearby) when our food finally arrived.
So why the 5 star review? Our server was really apologetic about the wait and assured us this was not normal for the restaurant. On top of that he comped our first round of drinks. He really didn’t have to do that for something that was not under his control.
Coming to the food — it was really good! Worth a 1 hour wait good? — probably not, but by then we were so hungry everything tasted awesome. My vegan cassoulet (yay they have vegan options!) had a lot of vegetables and was great. My husbands meat pie smelled so good that I ate most of the crust. It was buttery and crispy and just perfect.
In the end we walked out smiling and satisfied all thanks to our server so I thought this place deserved a 5 star review.

If you own a pair of pink shorts, have a man bun or trying to grow a man bun. This bar will not disappoint. The food is quirky and unique. A great place if you want to impress someone on the first date, itll establish both dominance and a sense of wonder in your dates eyes. On a scale of one to thirteen with 6 being the higest, the food here is great! I recommend the savoury timbits.

Got there randomly on Sunday evening with my gf after the Raptors game– great beer list and nice selection for 5 $ Sunday pints as well.
Garlic doughnuts are best the doughnuts I ever had, great job guys! Meat pie was good as well!
Place is busy and has a good vibe, service is good!

Love this place! I’m in town for a meeting and my hotel is just a block away, so I’ve had the chance to stop in here a couple times. The garlic parmesan donuts are very tasty (but extremely garlicky, so bring some mints!) and lots of good beer selections. Their taps seem to change pretty frequently too. I came a couple days apart and was able to try some new stuff on my second visit that hadn’t been there the first time.

While the Bar Hop may not look like much from the outside. Its a comfortable /​relaxing place to grab a pint and bite to eat.
The staff is very friendly an knowledgeable with the beers and ciders on tap. If you’re unsure about a beer type they will offer up a small sample.
Its a good Pub with great selection of Canadian brews and ciders on tap. the food selection is pub quick food.
Its a popular place and seating is limited. Sometimes the wait can take a while. Overall, great selection and quality meals. Well worth the pricing.

Atmosphere is nice and warm. Being from Buffalo, used to a lot of craft beer options. Toronto needs more places like this.

Chill spot, great beers and… Bone Marrow poutine What’s better than 1 bone marrow? That’s right. I ordered an extra bone, naturally. Not there is any specific time in the day to enjoy bone marrow or anything… But something about being able to have bone marrow at ~1am in the morning…

Great selection of beer on draft from IPA’s to Sours. There’s bound to be something for everyone. The food menu is artisanal and tasty, traditional with a gourmet twist. Great ambiance without being too rowdy. We’ll be back!

This is probably my favourite bar in Toronto. Getting q table is kind of a mission but I think the staff do a good job expediting overall. It is NOT for large groups. The food menus is not your typical pub fare but everything is delicious. The beer menus is great! Something on there for everyone. Highly recommended!

I went here for a night of casual drinks with friends and it was so good that I came back the next day but decided to have dinner also. Best choice ever: for drinks I had an old fashioned with butter bourbon (fabulous) and a GLB Canuck (delicious), and for an appetizer I got the garlic butter donuts (sooooo good) and for main I got the pork belly hash with smoked bone marrow, roasted sweet potato cubes and poached duck egg. All in all I have to say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life!!! pretty life changing… feel like I have to write a song about it…

Been here three times and first time getting food on Wednesday night. Firstly I live their music selection ! Also I love the interior and darker lighting. The servers are friendly and unpretentious like some «hipstery» bars staff can be. They’re always so smiley and joke around patient and overall seem happy in their jobs. Refreshing ! The location is close walk from many offices. We had amazing escargot starter on bread with onions and bacon. To die for ! I have never had them made in this way as a topper no shell. We also had oysters and my stomach turned when my date ordered them as I have generally had a disliking to them at other places but damn these were delicious and no salty slimy nastiness. The toppings were amazing. Comes with three different sauces and cheese and lemon. Slide easily out of the shell. No chewiness. Just an overall great experience. Highly recommend and will remain a loyal customer ;)
Specials for food and drinks every night of the week. Extensive brew list. Well known for craft beers (I’m not a beer drinker hence g n t)

Good for down the street. Muscles are amazing, beer names are fun and service is as good as it gets for pub/​bar. Not a sports bar so don’t expect that. And oyster buck Tuesday!

Awesome beer selection!
This was a great place to go to sample some Canadian beer! You have an option of full size or a 4oz flight size. All the beer I tried was amazing. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to stop in for some great beer. I wish I was hungry to try some of the food because everything looked like it was delicious.
This place is busy. On a Tuesday night around 7pm there was a wait for over 30 minutes!

Got a chance to see what all the hype was about finally this past weekend as we stopped in for a couple of beers on an impromptu post dinner pub crawl after a sizable dinner.
Given the surroundings of the entertainment district I was expecting a King West «douchey» vibe as is the case with many establishments within close proximity. Upon entering I was pleasantly surprised and thrilled to find that Barhop is couldn’t be further from douchey and pretentious. It’s an incredibly laid back beer drinkers vibe and it follows that they’d specialize in beer… Lots and lots of beer.
My one complaint had to be with the bouncer who was more brash then was needed when trying to explain wait times. He basically was shewing us away. I’d definitely suggest management have a hostess present at all times to deal with patrons.
However we noticed a couple of lonely chairs being unused between two near by tables and asked a server if we were just having a couple of beers if we could just sit there — no problem!
Our server (whose name escapes me) was brand new to the bar he confided but I honestly couldn’t tell. He was a total beer geek and was able to confidently walk is through the menu, tasting notes and make some solid reccos which we ended up really enjoying.
It’s a bustling busy spot, and there are many beers that are limited supply. So don’t be surprised if you see a sold out stamp on certain beers as you peruse the beer list later in the evening.
Overall a great experience. I’d like to come back for a longer visit and try more beers and maybe some food soon!

Gotta love Sundays here and their wonderful selection of beers. Let’s accept it guys, this place rocks and will always be busy. Garlic parmesan doughnuts are great, falafel wrap is amazing too. Probably one of my favourite bars.

The ambience is much like a pub, the staff if really helpful.
The beer menu has tons of local options so you you definitely find something which you like.

So far in my first five minutes in, I couldn’t get the beer I wanted, couldn’t get a seat, couldn’t get the Thai basil sauce for my mussels order oh and almost got smoked in the dome by a wooden box which did spill my beer all over the table. Did I mention I had to pay an extra dollar for a side of spicy sauce for my meal?
Great beer selection if they have it but man I think this place might be trying to kill me or disappoint me. Either way, not off to a great start but let’s see what the night holds! Cheers!

A nice switch up if you’re looking for a bar on King/​Spadina with a solid selection of beer, and an even better selection of whisky.
These guys always have 20+ rotating beers, so you’re guaranteed a new swap every few weeks. If you’re into bourbons and other whiskey, you’ll be even more impressed. It’s rare to find Pappy Van Winkle, and Eagle Rare anywhere in the city, but these guys had it every time I was here.
Haven’t been to their new location yet, but definitely visiting soon. Pig head nachos is calling my name!

Busy and casual place, in a good way! I came in on a Sunday evening because they were close by where I was staying and I saw in Unilocal review they had oysters. Much to my dismay, Sunday nights they clear out the raw bar and make way for their LP collection of records. Though I was disappointed about the oysters, it was pretty cool to see the bartender working his tail off taking orders, serving drinks, and spinning some great tunes.
So upon his recommendation I ordered the fish and chips, and it was the BOMB! The batter was unique and very crisp/​crunchy. It came with fries and a nice slaw. I ordered the single portion, which was plenty of food for even the hungriest of chaps. Oh and they have a pretty extensive beer selection too… Bonus!

Sunday brunch, in my opinion, doesn’t get enough credit for being the best meal of the week but it is.
For one, it often is the right that corrects Saturday night. For two, it is the day that a lot of pubs, bars and restaurants roll out the best food specials, such as prime rib.
I didn’t get prime rib, but I did get the house burger which is about ½ a pound of homemade burger awesomeness. Only minus was it was a bit undercooked in the middle, but overall it was great. Juicy and flavorful, the patty was grilled to burger perfection and came with a generous helping of some of the cities best double friend fries. Pint specials on a Sunday afternoon were good, and for $ 5 you get an actual PINT, not some half glass of beer.
Friends got the Club sandwich I believe and were also happy. Server was friendly and prompt despite having to work so early after admitting to being out late!
Very hipster vibe, but totally friendly to all crowds and they have a good beer selection as well. Prices are a bit higher, but the food quality is commiserate with quality.
Worth the trip!

Cool place for a beer. Lots of beers on tap, although they were out of a lot the night that we came. Didn’t eat but I’d come back for a meal.

I was here a couple weeks ago doing a day trip to Toronto for the Jays game.
We started our night here. First off the food is delicious, however the servings are tiny and the prices are pretty high considering. Their beer selection is great and has different kinds from all over the world.
Definitely a good place to check out. Don’t expect a bargain for food though. :)

Beers for you, hard cider for me.
In between downtown events, the time was right to check out Barhop for a quick drink and snack.
Weather was cooperative in October, so the patio was the destination. The hostess was accommodating and the server was quick to provide the menu and options.
In the end it was a hard cider day. West Ave Heritage Dry hard cider and KW hard cider were the chosen ones and they were both great. Stuffed jalapeños was the appi which was hot (warning provided by the server) and sweet. Bacon makes everything better, right? These jalapeños popped!
Def on my hip radar for another pint.

I can here for the craft beer week event. Surprisingly this is my first time, but it won’t be my last. I drank loads of craft beer from their event list, but the regular tap list is filled with a great list. The fact that there’s 36 rotating craft beers on tap + 2 casks and over 100 bottles makes this a place you can come to over and over. Not only that, but a section in their beer list for ‘gateway’ beers shows who they are catering to. Their gateway list is also not so bad. I would choose some of those on occasion.
Along with the great beer is a nice food menu. I tasted a few dishes, but ordered a pie for myself. It was pretty tasty, but too much cheese in my opinion. It was also huge and it came with a really tasty side salad. I will be back for sure.

The selection of beer is impressive. There are so many, the binder is organized into tabs. Many draft beer and many more bottles and imports from far. I personally wanted to try something from the area and discovered the magnificent Octopus Wants to Fight IPA from GLB at Barhop. It has that intense tropical fruit flavour and lingering happiness.
There is also an outdoors terrasse.

in all fairness I was here for one pint before the Panam closing ceremony — so a very
short visit.
we had a pint and shared a sandwich and left.
the service was kind of slow, we had mentioned we were kind of in a rush but had built a buffer for slow service.
the meat in my sandwich was great, super tasty and flavourful. the bun was really hard though, it actually cut the bottom of my mouth. when I asked the server if that was normal as I was in pain she said she didn’t know and never came back to ask if I was okay or to let me know.
when we asked for the bill, we also asked for the credit machine. she dropped the bill and walked away and then came back after a while with a machine.
the place is small but was busy. it seems like they have a lot of great beers on tap.

We were told to go to this place by our hotel because they had good beer and burgers. They were right.
We only had to wait about 10 minutes even thought it was a Friday night.
They told us we could stand at the bar and order some drinks though, so we did just that. We got a couple suggestions from the bartender which turned out to be quite good. Their beer menu was quite extensive.
We decided on the garlic donuts and a burger. We ordered the garlic donuts because they were highly talked-​up. Honestly I really thought they were extremely overrated. I like garlic bread or garlic pretzels much better. They had so much strong garlic that it was not the best… and I love garlic.
Their burger was just what we were looking for. It was big, juicy, and came with a ginormous onion ring on the top. Nice presentation.
My real complaint is that the tables were SOOO tight to one another. Like I’m talking 8 inches. As we were so close to the other tables, we couldn’t help but notice that the table next to us was clearly on a first date, which was highly entertaining for us. My suggestion for anyone wanting to bring a first date here, just don’t. It’s great for friends or people who are dating, but it’s too loud and too close to others for a proper first date.
Delicious burger and beer tho!

Simple en terme de menu, mais une coche au-​dessus d’un pub régulier. Choix de bières pression intéressant. Plus d’une vingtaine sans compter celle sur l’ardoise et pas juste les classiques qui se retrouvent partout. C’était à deux pas de mon hôtel et je n’ai pas été déçu. On né trouvait pas ce type de pub à Toronto il y a dix ans. Bravo!

I found this place through Blog T.O. for their buck a shuck specials on Tuesday after 5pm. Just from looking in from the outside, it didn’t look busy because of the black tinted windows, but when we walked in… this place with bumping with a huge crowd, majority being business men who have jus finished work.
On my first visit — which was on a Buck a Shuck day, I waited maybe 30 minutes before getting a table. The oysters were yummy, but I was very surprised by the beer selection that they had because they had a different variety from a lot of other bars that I have been to in Toronto.
From my most recent visit — which was a Wednesday, we had gotten a table right away. I went to this bar with my co-​worker and he had ordered a coffee infused with coconut beer — which was interesting in taste, because I could taste the coffee but not the coconut. I had ordered a lighter beer with a very sweet after taste. Food wise, he had fish and chips (halibut — 2 pieces) and I had the thai basil mussels. The batter on the halibut was very crispy and delicious. They had deep fried string beans, coleslaw and fries. The dish was definitely enough to feed two people. The thai basil mussels came in a huge plate with a lot of broth and a loaf of bread that was sliced up. At first, I was surprised they gave me a huge loaf of bread but it was awesome because I got to soak it up with the broth of the mussels. The broth was bursting with a lot of thai flavors.
I would definitely come back for the food and drinks.

If I drank beer, I would definitely drink it here because they serve it in these fancy glasses and watching the bar tender pour beer is mesmerizing, which is a very good distraction when waiting for a table.
Came here for the Mussel Monday special and was VERY satisfied. The wait was about half an hour and I did not mind at all because the aroma of the place just built up my appetite.
Got the mussels with lager jerk, which came with a side of fries and half a loaf of crispy warm bread. My friend doubted I could finish it all, but damn I proved her wrong, and it was worth every bite. The mussels were soft and chewy and the sauce gave a bit of a kick, not too spicy with the bread and perfectly fried fries to cool down your palette.
She got the portebello cream soup which was amazing and the veggie pie, which I forgot to try because I was too busy stuffing my mouth with my own food.
The restaurant died down around 8pm, but beware this was also around the time they ran out of mussels.
Definitely going to make this place a regular, especially with patio season around the corner. So excited to try their other menu items.
