Bathurst Dupont Animal Hospital

I brought my cat to Bathurst-Dupont Animal Hospital for 18 years. Both Drs. Koroknai and Kalynovska are dedicated veterinarians who provided exceptional care through many a health concern, and gave me many, many years with her through their diligent followups and check-ins. The staff and technicians are also wonderfully efficient, friendly and compassionate and always responded helpfully. Pricing was very fair and reasonable. The vets were always prepared and up to speed on her records when I came in - minimal repetition required - and even though I'm sure my cat was one of dozens they saw only intermittently, I came to feel very well known and recognized there. I chose this vet clinic because it was closest to home but am so grateful this was the one nearby; they were so caring that when my cat's time came, I very much wanted them to be part of that, and their incredibly empathy and compassion in releasing her was moving. I could not have asked for better care.

Dr. Attila Koroknai is such a kind and good animal doctor. The great reviews that they have here on Unilocal are much deserved. The cost are about half of other Vet’s in the area, but the service and care are superior. The staff are always nice and helpful, Dr. Marta Koroknai is also a great surgeon and animal doctor, the other Vet is Dr. Elahi, also very good. I’m happy I have them take care of my kitty George (see picture) at reasonable costs.

I was one of Dr. K’s first clients and have taken a multitude of cats to see him over the last 30 years. He and his wife are the best vets I have found in Toronto. Everything people are writing here is similar to what I have experienced: his quiet, patient nature, the reasonable prices and no upselling or guilting or crazy number of tests all at once; his approach is one step at a time. I like the office staff too — they are extremely busy as word is obviously getting out but do their best. I just wish I still lived across the street!

Dr. Koroknoi is amazing! He’s extremely personable, friendly, knowledgeable and does not rush through your appointment. He answers all (and I mean ALL) my questions and concerns, and I ask A LOT. My partner and I highly recommend him and we feel extremely comfortable knowing that our pup is in his hands. My pup even loves him! He gets extremely excited when we go to see Dr. Koroknoi — which is a great sign. Dr. Koroknoi has made our experience as well as our pup’s experience very very pleasant.
The supporting staff are also just as friendly. There have been times where my puppy has been unwell and they have been extremely supportive over the phone, answering all my questions and concerns without hesitation.
I’ve recommended Dr. Koroknoi and his clinic to all my friends and dog owners that I meet. This clinic is averagely priced but the customer service is beyond extraordinary.

Sadly, my 16 year old cat (Addie) died just over a week ago, but before she did, we saw she wasn’t eating as much as usual, made an appointment and brought her in and Dr. Elahi saw her. He’d first seen her in March when she originally had lost weight quickly and we found out she had a huge stomach tumour. He’d given her a (magic) shot, that increased her appetite, was an antibiotic, B12 and something else (better than magical unicorns) in it. All her life I’d been giving her dry food, but realized «Hell, if I was dying, I’d want lobster every day» so I gave her wet food (she’d turned her nose up at the expensive kinds, but ended up loving the President’s Choice canned cat foods. She started to thrive, run around and was pretty much back to normal (tumour was still there but they said she was too old to operate and weren’t sure at her age, that she’d survive any other treatment). Anyway — short story long — we brought her in this time and Dr. Elahi said we could try the shot again, and as he took her in the back to give her the shot, I could hear one of the staff cooing at her «You have such pretty eyes!» and it made me feel good because every time I come here, I can see how gently and lovingly the staff all handle the animals. Sadly Addie couldn’t keep any food down, grew weaker that night and died in her little bed, at home that night. We called in and (the every wonderful) Joy told us to bring her (body) in. We did, she hugged me and told us to take all the time we needed. The staff member who had been talking to Addie the day before (sorry, not sure of her name, shorter lady, longer hair) hugged me when I thanked her for being so kind to Addie. Not only that, later that day, Dr. Elahi called me to give his condolences (I could see that he’d tried calling earlier that day but I’d had my ringer off) and he answered all of my questions and was just lovely. Dr. Korokni is also fantastic. He’s be very helpful over the years. You really can’t go wrong with either. Oh, and not only that but what did I get in the mail this week? A handwritten condolence card from the staff, signed by them all. It made me cry. But in a good way.

I love this place! Great honest vets that have really helped me and my puppy out! He had a crucial ligament tare and they were very clear and open with us and not pushy about any sort of treatments or pills etc

I have had pets my entire life, and been to many vets. I can say Doctor Koroknoi is the best. He has a true love of animals, and is so gentle and attentive with my boys. The prices are the most reasonable I’ve found in Toronto, and I’ve referred two of my friends who are just as pleased. Please don’t ever retire!!!

I took my dog here a few years ago (around ²⁰⁰⁹⁄₂₀₁₀) when I was gonna travel abroad and bring him. The vet was extremely helpful with all the paperwork (I had no idea what was needed) and both the blood work and shots got done smoothly. Highly recommend this place. The only downside was the long wait before the appointment.

Doctor Koroknoi is great. He was very attentive and seemed to genuinely care about our pet dog. His approach seems to be very rationale, and budget conscious, without sacrificing care for our pet.
For instance, our rescue dog had some plaque on his teeth but was unwilling to let us brush. Doctor Koroknoi recommended we continue giving him raw hides to chew on, to not force the brushing (as he may bite) and monitor over the summer before deciding if we needed to sedate him for a cleaning on our next visit.
Another example was when our dog got a small scratch near his private area, and he kept licking it. We called in and emailed a photo to the doctor, who advised us to get a cone, clean the affected area with 10% benzyl peroxide and monitor for the next few days if it gets better.
We really like his approach so far, and look forward to continue working with him.

Dr Attila is simply the best veterinarian doctor in Toronto I have ever had the honour encountaring. His attention to detail, genuine empathetic nature when treating animals and friendly personality in general are the qualities that make him stand out from so many veterinarians. In the past, I consulted many vets and none would even come close in comparison to Dr Attila Koroknai. He trully is an outstanding doctor who has profound knowledge in his field and goes above and beyond your expectations.
I have been going to this clinic for a few years now after a co-​worker referred me to Dr Koroknai and I am so so grateful to her for that referral.
The clinic can get very busy as they have both great service and reasonable rates. However, despite being so busy, they always manage to squeeze me in and sometimes even at a very short notice. I highly reccomend Dr Attila Koroknai and Bathurst-​Dupont Animal Hospital to everyone!!!

I tried this vet on the basis of other reviews but will be switching. Front desk staff are sullen and none of them have ever even given my dog more than a cursory glimpse. Dr Alain was nice enough but never looked at my pups anal glands which were drained the next day by the groomer. It doesn’t feel like a pleasant place to be.

I would NOT even give a star rating if I could…
I brought our cat in because she was having issues with transferred aggression. They did a full blood work and gave her a full clean bill of health. In fact the vet commented on how he hasn’t seen a cat as healthy as she was other than some plaque on her teeth in a long time!
A month on the meds and we were not noticing a difference so we talked to the vet who suggested upping the dosage. After one day at a full dose she stopped peeing.
We called them after a day of no pee and they did not seem concerned told us to call in the AM but didn’t seem concerned at all with the issue. We were told to stop meds which we did. In the Am we called as she still hadn’t pee’d this was day 2.5 of no pee. They had us bring her in which we did.
11:15pm-When we did they extracted the urine in her bladder and suggested some antibiotics and pain killer to help with the swelling. They also gave her fluids. This before any tests were confirmed that she was in fact sick.
11:45pm — They brought her out
12:00pm I loaded her into the car after paying when I was loading her in I noticed she was convulsing, vomiting, foaming at the mouth and unresponsive to her name. I called the vet tech who immediately rushed her into the vet clinic… all went quiet they did not answer any calls and simply worked on her for 15 minutes from what I know. I was in the dark the 15 minutes they had her.
12:15−12:30? then the Vet came out and told me she probably had an allergic reaction to the meds she was given so they gave her a shot of antihistamine and we were told to leave her in the clinic for an hour or two so they could moniter her and they would call us back when we could take her home.
2:06pm less than 2 hours later we were called in to come back as she was in cardiac arrest. When I asked the vet what happened he had no clue.
They blamed it on an allergic reaction to antibiotics which she has had before due to her being spayed… so what killed our cat. They never offered to do an auotopsy at their expense to see what killed our cat… they told us we could get a third party review if we wanted to pay for one… I ended up calling back the following day demanding an autopsy be done and an adverse drug form be filled out to file and lodge a complaint with the maker of Convenia which is by Zoetis Canada
Please note on the sheet of information for the drug given to our cat it is N/​A for use with cats and UTI… why then was it given?
UPDATE: The Autopsy was done and it showed that her lung collapsed and her heart stopped … she died of an allergic reaction or adverse reaction to the drug given… Her Heart and some other organ tissue was sent for further testing. My guess is they are trying to find out why she was affected the way she was by this drug… We have not been called today to update us on the conversation with the doctor at Zoetis… In the comments find Zoetis mission statement — fair to say they did not live up to it with our Puddi-​Tat.

Doctor Koroknoi is great! I have gone to a few other vets in the neighbourhood for my cats and he is the great in terms of care and price. He has a genuine interest and passion for animals and this is clear when you meet him. Our puppy has received excellent attention with him.
However, I have seen the other vet and I am not a fan. He seemed pushy and wanted us to pay more money to get blood work done off the premises even though we made it clear it were not interested.

I love this vet, and have been going for the past five years with my dog! As a first time solo dog owner I was at this vet a lot throughout her puppy years, and they were nothing but kind and thorough. My dog even got excited when we would make the specific route change that meant were going for a vet visit.
I would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone, and frankly have! So it makes me really sad that I’ve moved all the way to the east end of our fair city and will be finding a new vet. But of course, as always, the wonderful people here are making my transition easy by faxing over all her documents to the vet in my new neighbourhood.
Bonus: their prices are super reasonable, lower than many other vets in Toronto, and their care is always exceptional. I’ve never felt «sold to» or neglected. 100% satisfied.

Prices very reasonable, best in Toronto i think. Place is easily accessible of the Subway (just a short walk) staff are helpful but a bit stand offish, probably has to do with all the sick animals they see come in, i’m sure it would effect anybody’s mood! You can get them on the phone almost all the time. Doctors really love the animals and are knowledgeable. Place is neat and clean. My cat had a smooth experience there every time we go! Check this place out, you wont be disappointed.

When my cat was sick, the vets here (husband and wife team, I believe…) were so incredibly compassionate (they are cat owners). They did tests in stages to see what was wrong with my cat instead of charging me a huge lump sum to do a bunch of pointless tests at once. They were very clear in what they were doing, what I was being charged for, and let me make decisions for my pet. They had incredibly good prices and most importantly I really felt they cared about my cat, and understood how much I cared about my cat. They were so gentle with her when she was weak. When she passed away and I brought her in and started to cry, the vet hugged me. I can’t even tell you how much that meant. I’m tearing up now just writing this review thinking about how wonderful they were in dealing with her illness. I could not recommend this place enough.

Shots! Forced on my 18 year old cat.
This place is better priced than other vets but they forced us to get our cat shots which causes cancer before they would groom! Shots shorten cats and dogs life. Also shown on CBC that this is a profit scheme.

Dr. Koroknai is the best. He is caring and thorough. The other vet is extremely patronizing and much less caring with pets. I don’t know his name, but I would never see him again. He would be a 1-​star vet, but since you can make an appointment with whoever you want, I’m still giving this 5 stars for Dr. K.
Their prices are very competitive for this area. Usually you get what you pay for, but in this case, the care my pet received was much more thorough and the time spent talking to me was much longer than at more expensive vets in the area.

When our dog ripped up his ACL last fall, we were really reluctant to take him to our previous vet. They always seemed to push for the most expensive option, prescribe a long list of meds and then try to upsell on their other products. Of course, there was the opposite end of the spectrum, reading up on ‘budget vets’ horror stories, where you’re basically flushing money away makes me shudder.
So we did quite a bit of research to arrive at Dupont Animal Hospital and our expectations were exceeded. I went in expecting to have a fight with the vet over surgery versus conservative management if the ACL tear was confirmed. To my surprise, after it was confirmed, the vet recommended the conservative treatment before I even mentioned it! Their handling of the animals was great as well, as it seems they really care and are just there to get the job done.
Prices, as others have mentioned, are very reasonable for Toronto. Given that you’re not sacrificing anything in terms of service, what else could I ask for? No upselling on their other products was a bit of a shocker too.
Overall, I’d definitely recommend them. Any doggy-​health issues in the future will definitely be handled by Dupont Animal Hospital for us. I’d recommend going to these guys, even if you have to make a bit of a trek.

I researched like crazy when we first got a dog to find a good vet, and we ended up here at Bathurst Dupont Animal Hospital. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Granted, we have not had any major issues (and I hope we never have to!) We usually see the male Dr Koroknai, and you can tell that he truly loves animals. We have never rushed out after our appointments, and any of the staff we’ve dealt with have been great!

I’ve been taking my adorable pussycat to Bathurst Dupong Animal Hospital for over 4 years, since arriving to Toronto.
I am always impressed with the quality of service that Dr. Attila Koroknai gives. He is knowledgeable and loves pets — cat/​dog, he is always happy to see the furry patient. He also has a great demeanor with them.
I also like that they are a reasonable priced veterinary clinic. Even though my cat needs dental cleaning (according to them), they are not aggressive in booking you in for that appointment (i.e. pushy, emotionally manipulating you, guilt-​tripping you). Based on my experience, I find them honest and would trust their care & opinion.
They recently (as of a year ago!) moved down the block, closer to Bathurst than to Dupont. The new clinic, with its exposed brick, has a more welcoming, clean, appealing and modern design. It is a step up from the unsexy reception they previously had. They deserve this new look and feel because they are a professional business.
