Coal Miner’s Daughter

This is a cute little shop near Honest Ed’s. It’s a well curated store & I found myself trying on a number of items. Bought a cute little polka dot dress. The lady who was running the shop had her daughter playing in the corner & she was so adorable! I would come back to buy & browse again! Prices range from very reasonable to moderately expensive.

Stopped by this place when roaming Mirvish Village today. Gorgeous boutique with lots of cute things from local/​Canadian designers. We had a good chat with the store owner and she was super friendly and knowledgeable. She herself makes jewelry and the other owner re-​purposes vintage clothes.
Didn’t buy anything today, but I’ll be back to browse around some more.
Very chic.

Coal Miner’s Daughter is an ever-​so-​charming boutique tucked away in the idyllic Mirvish village on the lower level of a Victorian era housed store-​front.
Featuring a well curated collection of vintage mixed with stylish independent Canadian designs, CMD is the quintessential one-​stop boutique as you could easily be outfitted head to toe with a selection that covers everything from clothing, jewellery handbags to shoes!
I was really taken with the darling jewellery collections adorned with miniature scissor and vintage sewing machine pendants along with the edgy paint textured graffiti emblazoned leather clutches. I also appreciate the fair number of Toronto based designer fashions to be found here. My favourite pieces from CMD are designed in-​house by one of the owners Janine, a line named Clementine & Tweed which is femininely pretty, yet at the same time very wearable. There is even a vintage turntable displayed here with an LP cover of Loretta Lynn’s namesake song for decorative effect.
Sure we’ve all shopped those big box stores from time-​to-​time, but I love that one can indulge in a place like Coal Miner’s Daughter to find something uniquely local and Canadian and not have to suffer wearing the same cookie-​cutter fashions that everyone and their fashion blogging friends are so-​called «rocking».
Coal Miner’s Daughter is no diamond in the rough, it’s truly a gem of a boutique shopping experience.

Chic shop!
Picked out this boutique to visit as it was convenient to downtown where my guy works and on the way to our evening dinner destination. My guy sat next door sipping a beer at the outdoor café while I went downstairs to CMD.
But first, I browsed their outdoor sales rack. Score! Among the many marked down local designers’ clothes was a lovely green top with contrast detail and interesting sleeves. It made my friend say, when I wore it around her for the first time: You look so pretty!
I talked to one of the owners about what I was looking for: cute cocktail dresses for a special weekend. I described my style and the best cut for my figure.
(I can tell that you are absolutely dying to know that I am what they call «an inverted triangle». Now you know).
The owner graciously selected and brought frock after frock for my try on approval. About a little black number I said, Is this a dress or is this a tunic? She said, Either. I told her I knew my guy would like it as a short dress and we laughed.
I love friendly helpful shop owners like her.
And I love that she curates a store full of small label, made in Canada (and not made in a sweat shop) items.
I brought my guy down to the shop and he sat while I modeled the different dresses for him. When I came out in the little black dress, he grinned in appreciation– and then made a face like a happy dog, panting.
The shop owner laughed and said, «You were right!»
My guy buys the dresses and adds a sweet amulet to the deal: a necklace with an Athene’s owl charm.
Smart man. Smart shop. Smart me in smart fashions.

LOVE the dresses in the store!
I tried on a really cute chic vintage-​y dress that was on sale, but alas it was a little too poufy for my body shape, but there was a range of dresses I’d love to get my hands on! Some of them were a little pricey and i have to think about it, but I’m told that most of them are Canadian designers and can’t really be found in mass stores. Cute little shop, definitely worth a drop-​in. Great accessories too!

While parking my bike for an event at Victory Café, I saw a sign that said «Yes! We’re open.» Considering it was past 9 PM, I poked my head in for the sheer novelty of seeing what store is open past 9 on a side street on a Tuesday.
While the place is small, it is packed to the brim with gorgeous handmade items from local designers. A lengthy chat with the woman running the place informed me that she is a jewelry designer herself and the dress I had admired is part of a collection by a student at Ryerson. This blew me away! You can’t really get more local (and undiscovered) than scooping up designers still in school.
As for what can be found there, most of it was in the vein of post-​50s chic, recycled vintage materials, and flashy items. It’s a gem of a place in Mirvish Village!
