This business made alterations to my wedding dress without my approval ahead of time, didn’t allow me to try the dress on for a fitting before the event, and refused to give me an estimate until all the work was already done on the dress. When I asked about the progress of the work, or when they would have an estimate available for me, nobody was available to take a look at the dress I had left at their store for more than 2 weeks.
When I went in to take it back, the owner apologized and promised me top notch service and still had no ballpark figure of how much the alterations would cost. When I asked about my wedding veil, they found it balled up in the bottom of the garment bag the gown was in. Apparently they were manhandling the garment bag so much that the items inside all slid off the hooks, hangers. Again, I insisted I take my dress back to take it to another shop in time for the wedding but the owner assured me the work would be finished in time.
On the day before the wedding, I called the shop three times before I got a call back to say the dress was finished and on it’s way to the hotel for delivery. I asked for the cost and they said the work is already done and my final bill is over $ 250. I already had alterations done at an other shop, all I needed Davenport Tailors to do was fix one hook, tack one pleat and add a button to the back. I could have done the work myself but wanted professionals to handle my dress.
The worst part was they delivered my dress to the hotel the night before the wedding in a clear plastic garbage bag. When my fiancé and I returned from our rehearsal dinner to the hotel, he saw my wedding dress hanging in a clear plastic bag so the surprise was spoiled. When I called the store to retrieve my garment bag specific to a wedding gown, they claimed the hotel lost the bag and they replaced it with a vinyl zip bag that could barely fit a mans suit much less a bridal gown with full skirt! Davenport Custom Tailors are unprofessional, unreliable, and out to make a buck. They won’t give out an estimate until the work is already complete and then you have no choice but to pay the full amount or you’re out of luck on the most important day of your life. Steer clear of this place.
