I’ve had many bad hair stories and after looking around for a hair salon, I heard many great things about Evoke and decided to try it out.
I had a wonderful experience.
Coming in, I was offered a beverage. They had a drink menu that was all complimentary so I opted for a yummy cappuccino. I booked a hair cut with Helen, she was very professional and so friendly!
My hair is long and I wanted to keep it that way, my only problem is that it wasn’t doing anything for me. Helen suggested that I get layers put in to give my hair more body and movement without having to cut it short (which a lot of hair dressers would do). I am loving it! You can really tell that she takes the time to make sure you’re comfortable. Not only does she give you what looks best, but that it is best for you and your lifestyle.

The staff at Evoke are so friendly from the front staff (Natasha and Pascale) to the stylist. Got my hair coloured by Giovanni who did a fabulous job and walked me through what he was going to do before. They even have yummy popcorn. It was my first time at Evoke and will definitely go again. Thank you for the wonderful service and hair care.

Had a trim/​cut with some layers. It was a great cuts down grew out nicely. Wonderful customer service. Price was a bit on the high side, but not outrageous.

One of the best Salons I’ve visited in a long time. Great service and experienced Stylists! Helen cut my hair, and she did an amazing job! I am extremely happy about the results. She was attentive, friendly and most of all took her time with my hair. Definitely visiting again.

I found this place on Unilocal and decided to call to book an appointment. They were closed so I left a voicemail and my call was promptly returned the following morning. I went with them for that reason, as I had left messages at 2 competitors and have yet to have my call returned!
Upon my arrival I was greeted warmly and asked to have a seat. I wasn’t offered a beverage or popcorn, but they were busy so I sat and waited patiently. I ended up asking for a juice, the menu is impressive! And it was tasty.
When Helen greeted me she was all smiles and extremely professional. She mentioned that she was new but had years of experience under her belt and it showed. She was patient, thoughtful about what I asked for and honest with her feedback. She made friendly conversation and was genuine, not just trying to make small talk. She did a great job on my long fine hair. I could tell she was confident in her ability and that she knew what she was doing. I am super happy with my cut!
Paying was also easy and the guy at the desk was a pleasure to deal with. He gave me the discount for finding the place on Unilocal (yay!) and he also prepared a personalized welcome package for me with samples and coupons for local businesses.
From start to finish, my experience was enjoyable. You can really tell that the owner and stylists take pride in their environment and are proud of where they work. And with good reason! The owner obviously puts a lot of thought into his business and you really feel like you’re somewhere special when you’re there, and not just because the actual space is stunning (love that exposed brick and floor to ceiling windows!). All the small details make this place memorable and the talent and friendly atmosphere are what will ensure repeat clients.
I’ll definitely be back.

This review is for my last visit to evoke in December/​early January 2015. Evoke as a salon should get 5 stars but I was not happy with the service of the staff. As I went in for my appointment, I had to find myself a seat, hang my own jacket and was never offered anything to drink! I did notice other clients with coffee cups and popcorn though! Then Susie just quickly gave me a wash and finished my haircut in less than 30 min! Even that would have been acceptable if I had got what I wanted! But instead of giving me a fringe, which I wanted, she cut my bangs too short and they didn’t even ‘sit’ well, my layers too long and my overall hair lacked texture. I did ask her if there’s anything else that can be done she just asked me to go back another time! I also wanted her to recommend a volumising shampoo, and she actually asked me to get one for colour treated hair and my hair is not colored! It must say I left the salon quite unhappy specially for the price I paid and the service I received!

Love this place. Coffee, tea, friendly conversation, hair advice, popcorn, clean and comfortable atmosphere.
I have a very relaxing time every time I go, Susy is just awesome. I leave feeling confident and happy each time. This business is very easy to recommend.

This review is for my visit to Evoke in March 2014 as a hair model, a year ago I know, but probably for the best because I would have made a very emotional rant had it been right after.
Now, I have been a hair model on and off for years at well known salons like Vidal and Aveda for cuts and colours so I thought Evoke would be a nice salon to try. Oh, how wrong I was…
I had a 9AM hair model appointment with a woman named Karmen. I arrived there promptly on time but soon discovered the salon was still closed. I tried contacting Karmen a few times wondering if she was running late and then left a voice message at the salon. I waited a good 20 – 30 minutes outside in the cold (keep in mind that winter was one of our worst w/​ice storms and days of –20 degree weather). I was shaking so badly and no stores nearby were open because they usually open around 11AM. Luckily, I discovered another salon had opened a few doors down called D2E, whose owner kindly took pity and allowed me to sit inside. The owner often checked up on me, asking if I was okay because I was shaking so badly (took 40mins to warm myself up) and even offered me tea. I will always remember her kindness!
Anyways, by this time it was around 10 – 10:30AM. The salon had not yet officially opened but the staff had come in so when I called again, the receptionist finally picked up. I explained the situation and discovered Karmen had called in sick the day before but had not bothered to notify me! So unprofessional! Receptionist didn’t really offer me anything in regards of compensation until I asked if I could just speak to the manager. If nothing else, I wanted to make a complaint against Karmen and let her boss know how inconsiderate she had been. The receptionist then asked me to hold and after speaking with manager about my situation said I can come in for a complimentary hair cut by their senior stylist Todd. I was vastly less annoyed by then (probably because I wasn’t freezing anymore) and took them up on their offer. I ended up getting a nice cut and blow dry from him, so if you do try this salon anyways I do recommend Todd (who was very nice by the way).
In the end, while the salon tried to make it up to me, will I go there again or recommend it to any friends and family? Unfortunately, no. I am too scarred by that experience and Karmen never even got back to me or offered any apologies. I actually wouldn’t have even written this review if it wasn’t for Karmen having the gall to try adding me on LinkedIn recently. I hope Evoke doesn’t have her still on staff because she is doing the salon no favours.

I called and made an appointment the day of and was taken care of by Shawn. I have extensions and needed them blended in with my natural hair. He did an amazing job… definitely one of the best cuts I have ever received. Not only did I live my hair but the staff at the front desk, and the people who helped blow dry my hair were so nice and helpful. I will be back and recommend everyone try this salon out!

My new favourite salon. I came here because my previous hairdresser moved, and I am very apprehensive about trying new hairstylists. You never know what you’re going to get.
I came here first to get my colour done, to scope out the place and see if I liked it before booking a cut appointment. Sarah is great, and super friendly. They have normal colour formulas but also an organic line, which is a bit more pricey, but perfect for a preggo mom to be like me. The colour doesn’t last as long (maybe less a month) I found. After colour is applied, you’ll sit under a dryer for about 30 mins which isn’t needed with regular colour. They also include a blow dry in the price — which compared to my old salon this is a steal, they used to charge me separately and I would rack up a bill of about $ 200+. With my organic colour it was about $ 110, including blow dry. Probably less with regular colour formula. Expect to be there for about 2 hours.
I booked my hair cut with Jon. I never know how to choose a stylist. but everyone looked really friendly. They seem to all have a good skill set too. Jon is one of the owners (Hi Jon) and for the price I was paying previously, the price point here doesn’t compare. The cut was great, and he was very personable. I’ve never spent the entire session chatting with the stylist and usually have my head down in a book. He listened to my concerns and how I like my hair and maintain it. I I’m very cautious about stylists especially the first time, but he made me feel comfortable and didn’t do anything without consultation. You can tell he has both a passion for hair but also customer service and making the customer happy.
The best test was after washing it, my hair still feels great. I asked when I needed to come back and it wasnt until about 4 months, which I felt was a really long time (this is a good thing!).
They also offer free cleanup for bangs or thinning of bulk in the hair between. Just book an appointment!
Other perks include a whole juice, tea or coffee menu and sometimes freshly baked popcorn. They will also follow up and call you a week later. If you’re not satisfied you can get a clean up or trim for free. .
I’ve been really happy with my last few appointments here and would recommend it to anyone in the west end. I think the prices are quite reasonable for a full service high quality.salon. If you’re looking for something cheaper, you can go to Supercuts, you get what you pay for.

Tried this place after I found up on Unilocal and I thought I will give a shot. Susy did a great job on my hair. I can be very picky when it comes to my hair cut but I loved the new style. She was very informative and friendly, seemed to know what she was doing. Prices are a little high but I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice hair cut. Definitely will go back again.

A fabulous salon with highly talented staff for colour and cuts yet laid back atmosphere. Great customer service with beverages and a staff that listens to your needs and desires for your hair. Susie is my stylist and she’s terrific. She’s capable of hip and young yet sophisticated hair styles. Super sweet and talented. Great hair products too! I found it on Unilocal and recommendation was a winner.

What a joy to finally find a place that does excellent color and amazing cuts for my curly hair. For years I’ve been trying to find someone who can do for my hair what the hair stylist I had when I was a teenager did, and I’ve finally found my new home.
It’s funny how you settle. I’d been settling for haircuts I was never really happy with, ones that would almost require I straighten my hair if I wanted it to look nice. I’d given up, I thought there was no one left who knew how to enhance natural curl. I was so wrong!
John did my haircut and Sarah did my color. Both excellent. Very welcoming vibe to the place, too — I felt right at home. The only reason I gave it four out of five is because the price is a bit high. On the other hand — you get what you pay for, I suppose — and I’m completely thrilled to have found them.

As a fan of precision cutting, I can be very demanding. Lucky for me, John at Evoke is a master with his scissors. Great colorists, too. And I love the happy, laid-​back atmosphere.

This place is great! I’m always welcomed by name with a smile and a beverage. I see Todd Dowel who I was recommended to when my old stylist left. I was a bit nervous switching to someone new but Todd is amazing! He’s meticulous about every hair on my head which I can appreciate and he can easily hold a conversation. Great guy working in a great environment.
One thing I had to get used to was that they don’t use clippers at Evoke. The whole cut is done by hand with scissors. Still get a good quality cut. I would easily recommend this place to anyone.

Evoke is a great salon! Love the drinks menu, the head massage, the environmental program — and the stylists are great to talk and relate to, plus they do a great haircut. In the past, I’ve hated getting my hair cut because generally the hairdressers I’ve had are overly hipster-​y. But here, I can actually talk about normal things, like dishwashers, suburban Italian restaurants and wedding officiants. I’ve had both Jon and Ashley, and they’ve done an amazing job. They are honest with what they can do, are super quick, and I’ve received so many compliments on how shiny my hair looks for weeks afterwards!
The only reason why I have docked a star — the pricing was very shocking to me when I got to the cash register — $ 120 including tax and tip, YIKES — I thought it would be closer to $ 75. But seriously, for the haircuts and conversations alone, it’s well worth it! I will be returning! (they also do complimentary bang/​fringe trims, like Aveda.)

I decided to try out Evoke salon because of all the raving reviews. They have great customer service — it was easy to book an appointment and everyone was extremely friendly when I showed up. In addition to beverages and snacks, they even presented me with a special birthday treat.
I am giving Evoke ³⁄₅ because their listed prices are misleading. The website stated a $ 50 – 75 scale for a cut. I was charged $ 90, excluding tax and tip. This came as a surprise as I didn’t expect to be charged more than what was advertised. I wrote in some feedback and now the website says «from $ 50». To me, this comes across as misleading. I have never had a salon charge almost twice the starting price for a cut.
Despite the friendly service, I don’t intend on coming back.
