Gamerama Video Games

This place has great prices, a ton of games and the people are very helpful and keep the place uplifting. As a retro game collector, I have found that their prices for such classics like Ocarina of Time are much more reasonable than most places that price it over $ 100. $ 100? For a 20 year old game?
I also really enjoy the fact that they have working arcade cabinets scattered around the place. Not for sale of course but who doesn’t love playing a little Galaga while searching for a copy of Yoshi’s Island?

I had a battery issue with my wife’s iPhone 5 — draining way too fast. Alex took a look, inserted a new battery, but it turns out the issue was more complex as perhaps circuit board related. My wife decided to upgrade to an iPhone 6s, so the whole thing was now moot, but Alex offered to buy her phone for parts. I’m giving five stars because Alex had a strong customer focus, was flexible, and fundamentally helped me. I’ve had very poor experienced elsewhere and walked in reticent — this was a perfect experience in my books.

Alex, the owner, is a classy, phenomenal, community minded and inspiring man. I’ve been coming here since I was twelve, my boyfriend’s been coming here since he was seven. Best game store in town, without a doubt. They’ve just moved from their basement dwellings under EB Games up the street to a lovely store front with a café in the front. Beautiful new store, helpful staff.
One of the repair guys has a nasty habit of overcharging and maintaining a very surly demeanour, but Alex processed a refund for me the next day to make up the overcharge difference. Every other employee in this store is great.

I’ve been going to this place since I was a kid. The owner Alex is an amazing guy and very friendly. He used to always be there to greet customers and put a smile on their face. Now when you go in there you have kids running the show. They aren’t well informed about the products they are selling and it seems like they just don’t care. Hope Alex will see all these reviews and complaints and try to do a turn over before it’s too late.

Haven’t a clue about their video/​game side of things but boy, are these guys swell when it comes to iPhone repairs. My iPhone 5 was three months off warranty when its charging port became defective. This iPhone is like an appendage to me and I can’t possibly be without it for a second more than is absolutely necessary!!! Having to leave it somewhere overnight or for a couple of days to be repaired would send me into cellphone withdrawal DT’s! They had it fixed and me out the door in 30 minutes flat. Bravo. Cost a hundred bucks but seemed fair. They were also working on fixing broken iPad screens. i will be back again in a flash if i need a quick repair. Liked their no nonsense approach, and did i say quick???

It is true that you can find some good deals here and the selling prices are more generous than some other stores but I have to concur with several other reviewers here – the customer service is really, really bad. Nine times out of ten whenever I wanted to buy a game and be on my way the staff couldn’t be bothered to fill out my order, either chatting with friends, playing videogames on their own or even, as one reviewer stated, going out of their way to be jerks. The final straw for me was when I was laughed at when trying to cash in a genuine Nintendo coupon for MARIO KART WII. They get an extra star for the deals but IMO it’s not worth it if they treat you like dirt.

I was drawn in by the positive reviews and the simple price list on their website. Should have known better…
1. They state 59.99 for a optical drive replacement but when you go in, it’s 69.99.
2. The guy who repairs the boxes has a pretty good demeanor, the guy who fills out the orders is dismissive, doesn’t make eye contact and over all doesn’t really give a shit about the customer.
3. I had a game in the old drive (forgot to take it out) so I had to go back. Luckily they had the game but some how it went from brand new to having a circular scratch all the way around the game. Oh but I didn’t need to worry because even though this «mishap» occurred they assured me they had «a guy» who could fix the scratch.
That’s great, so you overcharge me, scratch my disc, and then offer to fix the disc for a fee. This place is crap and you’re better off going to Best Buy or directly to Microsoft.

If you’re looking for true *gaming enthusiasts*, this is the store to go. It’s a retail store, a repair store, and fount of information regarding gaming in general, and with a wide variety of used and classic games, to boot.
The closest store to this feel in Toronto is VideoGamesPlus (VGP). VGP is more retail focused, with a proper online website, but the Gamerama folk strike me far more as gaming enthusiasts first and foremost.
If you want a local retail experience where you can support local Toronto businesses (and not franchises), VGP and gamerama are the places to go. If you want to buy from a group of people who live, breathe, and truly *understand* the world of gaming, and can provide unique insight and advice? Gamerama is it.
You want top notch retail «service»? go upstairs to EBGames, where they’ll ring you through quickly, but treat you like a number, have no interest in dissuading you from an unwise buy, etc.
To me, the choice is clear. Thanks, Gamerama!

I usually check out Gamerama when I don’t find a good deal at EB Games upstairs. I don’t enjoy going into Gamerama though because I find the staff a little unfriendly. They don’t always acknowledge the customers, and when they do help it’s like they’d rather be doing something else. It seems more like a hangout for the owners and their friends.
I did ask for help a few times and they did offer decent advice on used accessories. I bought a used 360 controller for a good price. One annoying incident I had was when I brought my scratched disc in for repair. They told me they would call in a few hours when it was done, which they never did. I had to call them back to find out if it was finished. When I went in to pay, the cashier (who was busy talking to his friends) was charging me a higher price than I was initially told. He then accepted the lower price and quickly said, «Oh we just increased our prices for disc repair.» It seemed like he was trying to make a quick buck by overcharging me at the last minute.
If you know what you’re looking for, and you know how to compare used products, or how much games should cost, then you can find pretty good deals here.
If you’re looking for advice and guidance, you will probably not enjoy your experience here.

On one hand, it’s a place that will take the PS3 which had succumbed to the Yellow Light of Death and get it back to working shape again for under $ 100. But on the other hand, you will likely not be treated well or as though you are a valued customer.
I will say that there was one young woman who was quite nice and maybe was actively trying to make up for her not-​so-​nice co-​workers. But we walked away from the entire experience disappointed and kinda ticked off because it felt as though there were employees who went out of their way to be jerks.
So two stars purely because they were able to get our PS3 up and running again, but it was absolutely not an experience I would like to repeat. I definitely second the other reviews here mentioning the subpar customer service.
Hey, here’s an idea for you enterprising hardware techies out there: Start a business repairing video game consoles and provide good customer service with fair prices. Judging from all the consoles this place seemed to be working on, there’s a market for it. And heck, it won’t be hard to get Gamerama’s previous customers to entertain other options.

I’ll start by saying customer service is not a strong point here. I stood in the shop with three staff not acknowledging me at all, while I tried to make eye contact and put on my best «I need help» face. I gave up and blurted out «I’m looking to get my PS3 repaired». Sorry, but stores where the customer has to break the ice when the place is empty have room to improve. That said, they did repair my PS3 in under
24 hours, and for a reasonable price. When I came to pick it up, they had an offer for $ 10 off sticker on any game, so I picked up Far Cry 2, got home, and the box was empty! I went in the next day, they gave me the disc, but there was no apology. Customer service could improve lots, but they are in a convenient location, and the repair was good, so that gets them some stars. I’m on the fence about if I’d go back.

This is a great shop to buy used and new video games, and get your console repaired. As a early 30s guy, I always feel a little out of place at video game stores, and this one especially I thought would be bad because the staff that work at this store are all guys ie teenage people, and they all have teenage friends hanging out in the shop talking about video games… but I had the exact opposite experience. Everyone is the shop was very friendly and provided great service. I was there to get my xbox 360 repaired (red ring of death), and they did a great job, and did it cheap. My xbox works great, and they saved me at least $ 100 and a few weeks without my xbox.
As per the other review… they are brutally honest about their experience with games, and will flat out tell you a game sucks if you are about to buy it… yes it happened to me… yes it felt awkward putting it back.

Gamerama is located in the heart of mid town Toronto at Yonge & Eglinton and is your local one stop shop for gaming. It’s on a lower level off Yonge Street, right below an EB Games so it’s very easy to compare trade values and new retail prices to the retail chain store prices.
Gamerama is open 7 days a week and stays open until at least 9pm so their hous are great. The serive ranges from excellent to crap, depending on who is working and how they feel that day.
The store often has hard to find new and used items, for example they were the only store in the neighbourhood to have the new Super Mario Bros for Wii, in stock over the holiday season.
In addition to selling and trading new and used videogames, Gamerama also sells lots of used movies, very cheap! I would highly recommend checking into their selection if you’re a bargain DVD hunter. Generally the movies are about $ 6 or 4 for $ 20.
Overall I would recommend Gamerama but it is not wheelchair or stroller accessible and as I mentioned, the service may be great or it may be bad, either way their selection is always good so it’s worth taking the chance!

great place to get used and new video games, the staff in the store are very helpful and friendly they may not always be attentive and are sometimes busy talking to their friends, once you have their attention you will feel as if they care deeply about your video game needs.
One of my favorite things about gamerama is that they don’t bullshit you there, if you ask about a game and they have played it and know it sucks they will tell you their honest opinion on it. They are also up to date with most game news and anything you could want to know.
Their prices are great too
Another good thing is their trade policy. They have a generous two week return policy and when you go in to trade your used games in they give you the option of cash or store credit, EB only gives store credit.
