My kids both attend Huron Playschool for their afterschool program(kids in Jk/Sk/Gr 1 and Gr2) and I recommend this program without ANY hesitation. The teachers are dedicated to early childhood development, and possess a patience with the children that extends far beyond mine. They are creative in the activities and teach a wonderful sharing and cooperative culture. I have sent my kids to large corporate centres, small home daycares, and have experienced wonderful and awful care, so I have a significant amount of personal experience upon which to base my rating which is that Huron Playschool is AMAZING. This is a co-operative daycare, so while the fees are slightly lower overall, it comes with an opportunity to be involved in the decision making and get to know the other families to the degree that you feel comfortable. It is also a very flexible arrangement, being one of the few daycares/afterschool programs that accept students on a part-time basis. Overall, this is an excellent environment.

My daughter has been attending this preschool/nursery program since she was 2.5 years old. She is happy, loves her teachers and peers. As a cooperative, all parents share responsibilities in managing a clean, fun, and safe environment for the children. It is a licensed facility. We work as duty-parents, snack providers and board members. In the process, we make lasting friendships and share resources that benefit families. It can be hard sometimes when on-duty, but then we learn about different children’s differing needs, how to respond to them, and also really appreciate the work of those in the child care industry. The Huron playschool is not a replacement for a full daycare, but I can provide my child an opportunity to independently play in an enriching environment, at an affordable price(compared to day cares or nanny), while I can spend valuable time on my own.
