InterContinental Toronto Yorkville

First off, don’t confuse this hotel with the Intercontinental off Union Station. We asked what stop we should get off and all the associates at UP Station told us at the Union Station, when in reality, it’s a different InterContinental.
To get to this location, you can take a $ 13 cab ride from the Union Station to get here or you can hop on the metro/​subway and get off at St. George’s and walk a block to the hotel. Whichever works for you.
The lobby is very pretty, but smaller than the other Intercontinental Hotel. We were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a bigger room for $ 15 a day and it was a steal, but with kids, and the upgrade only having one king size bed, we said no thanks.
Our room had two queens and it worked out for us. The room was a good size room, spacious too, in fact. However, the shower is a bit tiny but there’s a tub option if you want to take a bath.
The indoor pool here was the perk of this place. It’s opened till 11pm every night and it’s only 3 feet deep so you won’t need lifeguards around.
It’s also located across from the Royal Ontario Museum and walking distance to many great shopping places and restaurants so a car is not needed. We came here for a wedding and walked through the University of Toronto to get to a wedding at the Hart House.
We wanted to rent a car to drive to Niagara Falls, so we asked the concierge the day before about it, she told us that this hotel works with Budget so they can get the car to be dropped off at the hotel for us. We did just that, so the next morning they called us to tell us the car arrived and is ready for us.
My girls got stickers from the concierge’s office and some apples and were treated with lots of respect. They also made sure we got a comfortable car to fit carseats and all. However, since Budget was closed for the night, we had to park the car at the hotel for the night and it was $ 50 a night. It’s fine though, the cost of the rental wasn’t much so it came out to be an average cost for any rental and we got a BMW so that’s saying a lot.

Great location which is a block or so away from the beginning of all the high end stores.
Their staff is very accommodating and on top of things. They always inquire if we needed anything and are quick to get the valet to pull up our car.
I got a handicap accessible room during my first night and they changed me out to a deluxe room for the remainder of the stay the following day after. They even moved our bags for us while we were out. The «upgrade» was at an extra $ 20 but it was worth it. The pictures online showed a nicer bathroom which is why I booked and it wasn’t grande but it was spacious and clean. Bed and comforter are very comfy however, the 2^nd room’s bed was a bit itchy. Idk.
Ordered room service and they brought it up quick… even though it was midnight. Loved that they have the fridge stocked up w/​all sorts of non and alcoholic beverages. Movies on demand are expensive at $ 17.99 CAD. They offer parking/​valet w/​in and out privileges at $ 39ish/​day. If you need a few Canadian bucks, you can exchange at the front desk. They’ll even print out directions for you if you need a map to go somewhere.
Free WiFi if you sign up to be an IHG member. Do it because international data rates are scary.

We just had our wedding here — it was the most MAGICAL night.
We were the only wedding of the night (they only ever do one wedding a night), had a private floor away from other hotel guests and the service was absolutely PHENOMENAL! You spend all of this time (and money!) planning a wedding, you want it to be perfect and the intercontinental definitely did their part. The food was amazing (the best wedding food I have ever had), the service was friendly, PROFESSIONAL and on top of things, and they kept the venue clean!!! They were so flexible with me and always kept a positive can-​do attitude. This allowed me to make the best of the planning experience and enjoy the «big» night with the CONFIDENCE that they got this covered.
The event manager I worked with, Heidi, was the most wonderful person I could have wished for. She made my whole wedding journey experience such a lovely and memorable one. I am so GRATEFUL to have had the chance to work with her ! She is the definition of positivity, FLEXIBILITY and professionalism.
Location is wonderful as well — in the heart of downtown Toronto, with the ROM, UoT campus and Yorkville in its surroundings… so many great areas to take photos with the wedding party. It is right next to the subway and there is ample parking.
I recommend this venue to any couple looking to get married (or even simply to host an event here) — we are so incredibly HAPPY we chose this venue and we know you will be too!

Been here for three nights on a business trip, I liked the stay and I everything went well. Rooms are big, the bed was very comfortable.
It lacked the complimentary water bottle (some hotels now offer it as a standard), and the furniture is a bit old, but all in all the stay was good.

Good location, bed not very comfortable. Just an average room with a nice lobby. I expected a bit more from an Intercontinental Hotel.

It is a fine hotel, the Intercontinental Yorkville. We arrived late in the evening, and were greeted with excellent service at the front desk. Our (upgraded) room was very comfortable, with one of the greatest hotel beds I’ve slept in. The view of the art museum through a bay window was tops.
The building, like most hotels I think, was under renovation in various parts when we visited. And you could tell — from little chips in the flooring, and a the hot-​cold sticker coming loose in the shower, that this is not the newest place.
There are nice touches, like free apples, towels, and bottled waters for the morning running crowd. They offered umbrellas when it was pouring. However, asking for our room numbers while lending out the umbrellas was a bit unexpected, as they were cheaply made, and who’d want to walk off with Intercontinental Branded umbrellas?
Location-​wise, you are in the heart of Yorkville, with an attached gift store, adjacent drug store, and a bank and subway station literally 1 minute’s walk from the front door. The homeless were a bit in your face at times at the street corner, but that’s all of Toronto I suppose.
Valet parking is available for $ 35 a night.

This hotel has an ideal location, catty corner to the Royal Ontario Museum and across from the music conservatory in the lovely enclave that is Yorkville. It is just steps away from some of the most renowned designer shops. The hotel itself is fair. The restaurant inside the hotel is abysmal. The food is really not good at all. In terms of housekeeping, I would say the hotel is clean. I thought their pillows were really uncomfortable. Overall not a bad stay.

I always stay here when I go to toronto. Convenient location to good asian food. They also have free continental breakfast which is great. Rooms are always clean and spacious. Love the lobby area, which I find quite quaint.

Great location, excellent service. Our mini bar was defunct, called housekeeping and it was replaced in 20 minutes. Beautiful courtyard patio, they let us sit with our own glasses of wine. Beds were really comfy and had mohair blankets not the usual icky vellum standard hotel issue ones. Front desk staff and concierge were happy and gave us a map even when other people were ahead of us in line. Would stay there again, a long walk to Kensington market and Little Italy, but pretty on St George and close to everything in Yorkville.

I often forget to review things other than restaurants on Unilocal so this review is actually from a May 2014 stay. Not suuuuper late, but not exactly last weekend either!
As I’m not really familiar with Toronto, it was tough deciding on where to stay. After a bit of digging around, it was a toss up between up in Yorkville or down around King St W. We decided that it didn’t really matter as the subway seemed convenient, we like walking around to explore a city and taxis were always an option too. We were also in town for the Hot Docs festival to see our friend’s amazing film première and the Park Hyatt was the preferred hotel so why not stay next door?
The hotel turned out to be really convenient and located closest to the St. George subway stop. It’s right across from the ROM (happened to be a free admission weekend at the ROM which was cool but also meant huge lineups!) and also high end shopping on Bloor Street. About a 30min walk to the heart of ‘downtown’ Toronto but we found it nice to walk through the different areas, although taxis are easy to find in front of the hotel as well.
The hotel itself is getting a little bit dated and could probably use a facelift but is still very comfortable, the rooms were a nice size as were the bathrooms with a bathtub plus separate shower. The walls are a bit thin and we could sometimes hear conversations in the hallway, although this did not disturb us too much from being so tired it was easy to pass out. I guess if you requested a hotel away from the elevators you wouldn’t get as much foot traffic and outside noise.
The hotel staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful, a lot of ‘certainly’s’ and addressing by name — from working in hotels I can’t help by checking off the check boxes in my head sometimes!
Lots of restaurants in the area as well as a Shoppers Drug Mart downstairs and a Tim Hortons around the corner for something quick on the go. We did have room service and it was prompt and the food was very good. There’s a Keurig in the room which is great if you’re having coffee, but if you try to use it for tea, better luck elsewhere… must be used a lot for coffee or not cleaned out too often as our tea still tasted like coffee.
Note #1: there is no mini bar fridge in the room. Was not a big deal for us, but I could see some people wanting or needing one to store other items.
Note #2: we stayed on a corporate rate which was great but not sure if I would pay the regular rate
Note #3: You can get free wifi if you sign up for their loyalty program — you can do this at check-​in too!

And we’re back! After being away from Toronto for a few months, I was looking forward to getting home. But in the absence of a turn-​key apartment, I needed a hotel for a couple nights’ stay.
So I went with the Intercontinental. Glad I did. Besides, what better way to return to my Canadian hometown than with a new Unilocal review right out of the gate (and into the lap of quintessential city living!) ;)
I’ve never noticed this hotel. It does not jump out at you on the street. I love intercontinental hotels and THIS LOCATION gives the prize winning global chain the perfectly warm, boutique feel it needs.

–No inspiring views. My 4^th floor room looked out onto people’s condo balconies. Meh.
I RECOMMEND: the crème brûlée if you want a lightly sweet treat.

I was searching frantically for a hotel that also accepted pets due to a blackout from the ice storm, and ended up staying here. The bellhop came out immediately to help assist us with our luggage despite freezing temperatures and the fact that we arrived at 5am, and check-​in was fast and easy with a friendly front desk agent.
I wasn’t expecting anything fancy with such a last-​minute reservation and our room was facing the courtyard and not Bloor St., but it was very spacious and well-​appointed.
Furnishings are decent and the décor, although not the newest, is still tasteful. Bed and linens were comfortable; the couches in the living area were nice as well and our dog enjoyed making a bed out of one of the armchairs.
The bathroom was fine as well, although the bathtub could have been larger/​more comfortable. Amenity kits were a bit sparse — no toothbrush, toothpaste, lotions, etc. but included comb, sewing kit, makeup remover, shoe brush, and wipes. The slippers provided were on the small side, and the towels and bathrobes could use some fabric softener as well.
Wi-​fi is not free ($ 10 per day) but is decently fast — I was able to watch Netflix shows without a problem.
All the hotel staff were excellent and friendly, and dealt with our requests efficiently.
Location is excellent — close to the TTC, the ROM, and shopping on Bloor St. We ended up doing some last-​minute Christmas shopping along Bloor St. while staying here, and there’s also a Whole Foods nearby to stock up on snacks.
Seeing that I actually live in Toronto, it’s pretty rare for me to be looking for a hotel in town but should the need ever arise, I would definitely stay here again.

Probably would not stay again. Did not realize what the continuous shaking and noise was every night– the hotel is located directed above the subway line. I did not sleep very well. Also, there was a loud banging noise every night. We were on the 3^rd floor, so would recommend maybe staying on a higher level?
Also, ordered room service. My daughters food had a hair in it. Not good. Food was adequate at best. Staff was friendly. Pool and exercise room, nice.
All in all, not good.

Second visit. Great location! Staff is marvelous.

I read a few reviews describing old /​uncomfortable furniture, unclean bathrooms, problems with housekeeping. I had none of those problems. Room was sparkling clean, classy modern furnishing that still had an old world style. Big solid wood doors and tasteful décor. The carpets in the hallway are ugly and not fitting with the overall style. Nornally I wouldn’t give a crap about that. But I had to pay $ 400 /​night for this place which is ridiculous. The room was nice but not especially big. Every interaction with the staff was great. Bar has a nice ambiance but in my opinion the restaurant does not. I got a Manhattan at the bar, it was really tasty and the bartender «Jason» was friendly, funny, and made a darn good drink. But the drink was nearly $ 17.
Coffee at the restaurant in the am was pricey, I think $ 4 – 5.
The location is what might make this place worth the price tag if you can’t find anything cheaper. right in the middle of everything.

I asked for a room facing Bloor Street, I was ‘upgraded’ to a room overlooking at North parking lot. I held no grudge, but the girls at the front desk would soon fear me for my odd requests, and suspect me of being nothing less than a serial killer.
I got the government rate, which came out to be around a 20% discount.
I settled into what was perhaps a 45sq metre room with contemporary furnishings, and a curtain that I found to be very distasteful.
The room was very clean, the bathroom housed none of the amenities that are found in Asian hotels, but I was only here for one evening.
The check-​in process went very smoothly, although I did have to wait over 15 minutes for the bell boy to become available from the American tourists.
The concierge desk at the front lobby employed one gentleman who was well mannered and impeccably dressed, despite for his windsor being single instead of the double. He was the man with the connections, who took care of all city inquiries, and hooked up the limousines at very reasonable prices.
My favourite part about this hotel is the Sky Lounge, operated in conjunction with Proof Vodka Bar on the ground floor. I remember coming here for the first time, and mistakenly wandered through the upper floors in search of Sky Lounge.
One could only assume a Lounge named Sky would be on the upper levels.
Both places offer elegant nightlife opportunities, and is where I usually spend my weekend evenings when I feel that I need to be reminded of Toronto’s dull nightlife scene.
There is a outdoor section where guests can sun tan, I remember there being four lounge chairs just outside of the fitness facilities. The gym is very small, is only good for workouts lasting 15minutes of less. Any longer, and you’ll run out of things to do.
The custom shirt I had made was incomplete because I noticed that the holes for the buttons weren’t cut, a huge oversight on the tailor. So I called down to front desk requesting exacto-​knives. The girl on the other end of the telephone reassured my request thinking that she heard be wrong, then confirmed with me verbally one last time. There was obviously a tremble in her voice, and I thanked her after hanging up rather amused.
Ten minutes later, a man showed up at my door with tailor knives, which was exactly what I needed. But the man wouldn’t leave, so I slit sections of my shirt with him in the room watching my every move.
I returned the knife very carefully to him, and he quickly retreated to which he came without asking for a tip.
Later on in the evening, my girl friend Tia arrived.
Apparently, when she asked the front desk for my room number and to call up, the girl working there refused to call me directly, and asked the black girl to call instead. She described the girl at the front desk of being very timid, and hesitant about letting her up. She of course, thought I was going to murder my guest, thinking that I still had possession of the knives, and avoided eye contact with me the during my entire stay.
Anyway, the lobby was very nice, not small and underwhelming. Clearly this was just a location purposed hotel, as their flagship location for Toronto was about six minute drove south on Front Street. I very much care of the lobbies of hotels, as that I believe is their main attraction, and where all the scandal happens.
A forgettable experience, probably mainly because I didn’t get my Bloor Street facing room. A note to keep for my dark passenger.

I stood here March 22−24^th and I gotta say… this team was on point! We arrived earlier than check in time and they held our bags while we shopped. Room was cute and tidy. Gym was small but it’ll do. Woke up to coffee stains on my bed sheets, called it in, fixed the problem ASAP! Downside… no in room microwave and must pay for WiFi.
You must check out the bar downstairs called Proof. Bartender Jason was AHH-​MAZE-​ING!!!
Will go back again. Hands down.

Amazing hotel. friendly staff and welcomed with fancy chocolates and nice glass bottle of water in the room… Well it seemed pretty romantic, but I was there for business but I chose this place for being close to downtown and all the places i wanted to walk to and see. It it delivered all that and more.
Enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again.

This hotel definitely deserves its four stars.
My mom was visiting me for 3 nights and decided to stay here. I know she was initially quiet nervous because her experiences at the InterCon in Downtown have been less than enjoyable. But this was a real turn-​around from the other location!
The furniture in the room was classic yet modern. It looks like they’ve done a reno in the last five years because the counter tops in the bathroom were shiny and the style of the furniture was up to date. Only complaint is the hallways that need to be redone as they’re still living in the 70s while the rooms are made for today.
Service was excellent: room service was quick and friendly. Front desk staff on the phone responded to all requests cordially. There are always attendants in the lobby to help you with anything. Even the housekeepers always wore a smile and were polite.
I think it was a real winner with my mom too and I look forward to sleeping here whenever she’s in town.

Having stayed at a gazillion of Intercontinental hotels worldwide (thanks to the friends and family discount) expectations were high. Unfortunately I was slightly disappointed with how old and ordinary the hotel was.
The lobby was small and unimpressive, the hotel restaurant looked depressingly empty the entire time we were there, and the corridors were in need of a touch up (not a major overhaul, just a touch up!). And call me strange, but the best thing about checking into a new hotel is the anticipation when I open the door to my room. I just couldn’t wait to see what the room looks like. This one, to put it bluntly, was a let-​down.
Despite the above, everything was in working order, everyone was extremely nice and helpful, it is located in the nicer part of town and the stay was overall very pleasant.
But if you’re looking for amenities like the Intercontinental Bali (
), or the (relatively) brand new Intercontinental Boston (
), like me, you’ll be in for a disappointment.
