Jelly Modern Doughnuts

Pricey, but despite any complaints, the plus side is that these donuts are normally quite fresh. A nice addition to the PATH, but not something I’d get everyday.
I normally purchase the S’Mores donut — delicious, chocolate-​y, rich. But, it’s pricey. It’s around $ 2.75 for a normal sized donut, and $ 2.25 for a mini 3-​bite donut. I can’t justify spending that money on one tiny donut, when a small coffee and muffin somewhere else could be, similarly, around $ 3.00. A good treat once in awhile, but I wouldn’t come in too often.

Good but way overpriced.
I get that doughnuts are the new cupcake and enjoying its gourmet phase. I also get that rent in the financial district is not cheap but other places offering doughnuts for a third of the price (i.e. Tim Horton’s) isn’t enough to justify the premium. $ 3.00 vs. $.95 is enough to make you pause, no matter what your income is. I also gasped when I saw that the price for a dozen doughnuts is $ 30. I think making rent payments can still be attained by sales volume over profit margins but I guess they want to be viewed as the «elite doughnut.»
The doughnuts are good but not great and certainly not three times better than Tim Hortons. I’m not sure if they are baked on-​site rather than in a factory in Oakville but they are probably better suited to bear the «always fresh» marketing statement. They have a wide variety of unique flavours usually borrowing ingredients from desserts found in fancy restaurants and of course some using whole pieces of bacon (a nice touch). Personally, they aren’t the best doughnuts I’ve ever had either but I did finish the ones I tried.
What it boils down to is the price point they feel their product deserves and I don’t think they are that much better to warrant it. If they want to stay with their current prices and selection, I’m sure they’ll be fine until the demand for gourmet doughnuts fall off as the next trend takes over. Can’t blame a company for getting in and capitalizing.
If you ask me, I wish Krispy Kreme hadn’t shot themselves in the foot with their rapid expansion over 10 years ago but at least they are still hanging on with a couple of locations in slightly central areas.

This place offers unique flavours but fail in terms of taste. With their donuts priced 3x more than Tim Hortons, I would expect it to be Way better than Tims. However it is just marginally better and I cannot justify it price. $ 3 is nothing to me but this is unacceptable. Either lower the price or give me a $ 3 (or more) donut that will blow my socks off. I also agree with another review wherein the donut (for some reason) does not sit well and made me feel bloated.

Was craving donuts for some wild and unexplained reason… and this place is in the office building next to mine, just a 3 minutes walk underground. Went in yesterday and they were all sold out of their gluten-​free varieties (they supposedly only make 5 per day). So I tried again today, at 11am and all that was left was the maple bacon and Madagascar vanilla.
I haven’t had a donut in the 4 years I’ve been gluten-​free, so decided to stick with the basics and had the vanilla. I guess they haven’t perfected the gluten-​free recipe yet because it was dry, stale and dense. The best part was the layer of icing and sugar. I ended up eating the whole thing because, well, I paid $ 3.65 for the thing. Now I feel as though I have a log swimming in my stomach.
If you’re looking for GF, stay away from here. Try a Prairie Girl cupcake instead.

This place is such a tease when I take the PATH (an awesome interconnected underground pathway filled with food courts and shops). I have had to donuts from Tim Horton’s, Dunkin Donuts and now Jelly.
Are they more gourmet than Tim Horton’s and Dunkin Donuts?
Absolutely! Also pricey as well. At Jelly the donuts are around $ 3 whereas at Timmies a dollar or so.
Does gourmet mean better tasting donuts?
I am going to say yes in this case. I am big fan of the sprinkled Timmies donuts but the Madagascar vanilla donut is truly delicious, and certainly tastes like a fancy donut which is now my new favourite. I also tried the Bacon donut and that was good as well but not my top choice, it has an interesting smoky maple flavour and worth a try. Meat on donut. checked off my list!
Also the price difference between the large and the small is less than a dollar so I would say just go for the big one!
I like the idea of gourmet donuts because it is a great office or guest treat which costs less than gourmet cupcakes yet better than your run of the mill donut shops.

This is an okay dessert place specializing in «gourmet» doughnuts. They have some pretty interesting flavours, and I have been here twice in total and tried four of their flavours: maple bacon, key lime pie, crème brûlée and s’mores, with key lime pie being my favourite so far. The maple bacon wasn’t bad, and my friend who also got one enjoyed it, but I’m not a huge bacon person to begin with, and I thought the mixture of sweet and salty flavours was odd. Crème brûlée really wasn’t anything special, I wish there was more of the crunchy stuff at the top. S’mores was my second favourite so far because I liked the chewy texture of the marshmallow — but for some reason this doughnut wasn’t as soft as some of the other ones, maybe it was sitting out there for a while?
It’s pretty pricey at $ 2.50 for one of their «mini» doughnuts and $ 2.75 for a full-​sized one (not that much difference in terms of size, really.) I might come by again if they have any new flavours that look interesting, but not planning to make regular stops here. The doughnuts in general are decent, but not amazing to warrant the price.

I walk by this place in the path to work everyday and watched it being built/​set up. I was quite excited to have a ‘gourmet’ doughnut place open up so that I can have another excuse to leave my cubicle and snack. The mini shop is set up very modern and sleek and looked very promising as well.
But 3 stars mainly due to the price. At $ 2.50 I got a 3 bite doughnut as they call it for their sizes (essentially a bit smaller than a Timmies size doughnut). I got the pralines and cream, which was quite good to be honest. Flavourful and just the right amount of sweetness, leaving me wanting more. But to fork over another $ 2.50 for a non-​regular sized doughnut. I’m not so sure about that :/​They DO have unique flavours though. Just a little pricey.
They’re open early in the morning to accommodate the working life, and are still open around 730pm which is great since pretty much everything else in Brookfield is closed.

If I were to rate this place purely in terms of flavour and uniqueness of the donuts, I’d give them a 3. The donuts are creative and the flavours are better than your run-​of-​the-​mill Tim Hortons donuts. But let’s be honest, the almighty Krispy Kreme glazed donut, as disgustingly unhealthy as it is, blows this place to shreds when it comes to providing sheer satisfaction. And that’s really what a donut should do, no?
I had the ‘smore donut and it was quite good. Not too overbearing in terms of sweetness, but definitely tasted like what it should have. Many of the other flavours are pretty lackluster though. They’re either just too strange as donuts or they just don’t deliver in terms of flavour altogether.
Reason why I gave the 2 star rating is because for the price that they charge, you’d expect the donuts to be irresistible, but they are nowhere near justifying the cost of the donut. Being the value-​oriented person that I am, I’ll stick with my sub-​$ 1 donut from Timmies, thanks.

This place looks great, bright and shiny and tons of delicious looking doughnuts on display, sadly i wasn’t all that impressed with he product, great presentation, they look fantastic, the topping/​flavours looked great, BUT, the doughnut’s themselves were simply standard, no flavour at all, decent texture, but again no flavour at all very bland, I guess they believe their toppings are so good you won’t notice the sub par doughnut underneath. I tried the green tea which was nice, but was hoping the doughnut itself had some green tea in it too, but it was just the icing. The s’mores one looked good, but i found the chocolate glaze very thin, so thin you could actually see the colour of the doughnut under it, you could barely taste the gram cracker dust on top and the marshmallow was so flavourless that it was pointless to add to it, it really had zero flavour. that was easily the most disappointing doughnut i had from Jelly, the last one was the coconut, the icing was good, not great, the coconut cream in the middle was pretty good, but again the doughnut under it was just boring and bland so it really lowered the level of this doughnut.
Jelly in my opinion is close to good, but falls very short of making these expensive doughnuts worth buying a second time. Jelly needs to make better doughnuts to make it worth it, they are just not worth the money. They have put all their effort into the icing and toppings and the presentation and zero effort into the doughnut itself… so if all you care about is the icing/​toppings, then you will love this place, if you are looking for a good doughnut… take a pass on this place… i will
real gourmet doughnuts are 100% flavoured, this place just offers «gourmet» icings/​toppings on top of a very bland doughnut.
