I had a great time at the Korean Harvest Festival last year. Great performances, food and drinks. Lots of booths with unique things. This year it’s on September 6th and 7th(Sat/Sun), you can get the schedule for this year here.

Annyeonghaseyo, Korean Harvest Festival — September 17&18, 2011 Mel Lastman Square has held plenty of Cultural Festivities and the Korean Harvest Festival fits right in, especially near a neighbourhood with many Korean Families. I’ve been to one other Korean event Downtown, Korean Products Food & Beverage Expo and this was equivalent except for the outdoor setting. Korean Food/Snacks, Dances, Songs, Culture, Cars, Girls(& Guys) and a big plus or you might see it as awkwardness is there were Condominium Development stalls giving out Brochures. Last time I was at an Asian Nightmarket, I didn’t see Developments lounging giving me Brochures. Everyone got the Odeng(Fish Cake) in Broth while the other Korean classics served in most Toronto restaurants were also on offer; Tteokbokki(Rice Cake), Sundae(Sausage), Mandu(Dumplings), Hobbang(Red Bean Paste Bun), Bulgogi(Beef), Japchae(Sweet Potato Noodles) and St. Louis Wings(?). Korean Harvest Festival is just another reason for me to eat and celebrate. This is the 11th annual Festival held by Korean Canadian Business Association of North Toronto at Mel Lastman Square. Harvest Festival(Hangawi) is celebrated on August 15th of the lunar calender which is similar to Chinese Moon Festival, which they consider to be their«Thanksgiving»! And to celebrate and give thanks, families are gathered together to eat, drink and dance! That’s all I need to know! Korean performers, fashion shows, traditional dances, hip hop/singing competitions are held on the centre stage. There are also arm wrestling and wings eating competition. Food vendors offerings Korean comfort food all curiously either in orange or brownish colour: rice cake in hot sauce, sausages, bbq, fish cake and buns. Curiously St Louis has the largest food area selling chicken wings, ribs, corns and potatoes… Western comfort food! It was kind of fun watching families sharing their laughter and food, kids playing with each other, friends chilling… That’s makes any Festival special!
