This place is so good it has ruined me for any other smoked salmon. Loblaws had packaged stuff on sale and I couldn’t convince myself to buy it… Even the discount trimmings at Kristapsons is way better than the vacuum sealed packages at the grocery store. And the bag of trimmings is a great deal when presentation doesn’t matter. When you walk in the door the smell of smoke is there teasing you, taunting you… making you wish you had a bagel and fresh cream cheese in your hand to just eat some of that delicious smoked salmon on the spot! Being naturally cold smoked I find it is best eaten the same day you buy it. If you love smoked salmon you must give Kristapsons a try!

I finally had a chance to come here today and they were open! They only open until 4pm on weekdays, and I think they are closed on weekends so it’s near impossible to ever get here. I was super happy that I did. The smoked salmon is delish. It’s still $ 10 for 150g, but $ 20 for 250g… the $ 10/150g is for the tail end of the fish, the $ 20 for 250g is for the middle part(or something like that). I’m in love. I’m the same person who when in Vancouver, I try to find fresh smoked salmon places and I’ll bring(smoked salmon) back on ice. Although the place I used to go to in Vancouver has since closed. Anyways. It’s tasty here. Highly recommended.

This is my opinion is the only place to get your smoked salmon. I had some last month and shared with a friend, she was blown away and said it was the best she ever had. It’s new year’s eve and you can bet I have it in my fridge right now and cannot wait to get home and have some. It is awesome on it’s own or you can buy bits and use them in a pasta or quiche. I love the thick slices too. I had the pleasure of working beside the owner at Taste of Toronto many many years ago and have been buying his salmon since that day.

Perfect smoked salmon, to be enjoyed very fresh. Because Kristapsons is cold smoked using a bare minimum of other ingredients, it is not salty and does not ‘need’ cream cheese to ‘cut’ any salty flavor(traditional lox is primarily salt-preserved and very salty, hence this smoked salmon is not lox.) Cold-smoking is also very healthy preserving vital Omega fats your body and brain needs for effective metabolism. This is smart food. Kristapsons is mild and tasty enough to enjoy very simply on a platter with a generous squeeze of organic lemon and fresh-ground pepper, maybe some paper-thin shavings of very fresh red onion. Like you’re eating sashimi or carpaccio. To me that’s better than the puffy bun and capers, etc etc. Alternatively could omit the dousing of lemon juice and nosh the salmon along with white wine(because strong acids and wine do not play well together.) Expensive-ish, I think nearly doubled in cost the past ten years, but then so did your GTA home value. You still need to eat well and there’s far worse ways here. Bön appétit.

Best smokes salmon by far. I’ve shopped there for over a decade and have never been disappointed. Delicious. Perfectly smoked. Never too salty. Sublime salmon.

Kristapsons is a very unassuming place. In fact, it feels more like an office than a store when you step in. If you want an «experience», you’re not going to get one here. What you will get is really great cold-smoked salmon, and usually people who know their stuff as well. If that’s what you’re looking for, this is the place. If I want smoked salmon, I get it here, period, no exceptions.

I love when local business still have that friendly small town feel and this is was Kritapsons offers. They sell smoke salmon and that’s pretty well it. It is sliced thick, with not a tonne of smoke on it. The price is very reasonable. $ 20 for 250 grams will feed at least 10 people on crackers or with bagels. I’m eating mine right now with a ST. Urbain Bagel & cream cheese from Leslieville Cheese market. YUMMY

For a long time now Kristapson’s with two locations in the city, the other one being on yonge street. they get there salmon from the same supplier in British Columbia and they smoke it all here dude. This is all they do, so you can be sure the quality involved is high as all their attention goes towards the production of the perfect smoked salmon. For 150 grams it costs about 10 bucks. they also claim that their cold-smoking salmon method preserves more of the omega 3 oils essential to your health. Feel free, to get larger orders in 250($ 16.50) and 500($ 32.00) gram parcels, their bits and pieces parcel($ 7.50), or a 1kg salmon fillet sliced on skin($ 58.00). I can’t say whether for salmon this is expensive, but you ARE getting it fresh, from a trusted source and smoked shortly close to the time you receive it. Fresher is always better. At the same time, you might not spend the 10 bucks if you are looking for best bang for buck(read: amount of fish). As to the taste, it is very flavourful, with a nice aroma both at your table and as you walk in the store. They slice them thickly so a couple pieces on a slice of bread with cream cheese is perfect. I feel like ive had smoked salmon that was a little more buttery in taste, perhaps a little oilier, which i like but i wouldnt go searching far and wide for other smoked salmon where i am; id come back and schmooze with owner about the day and perhaps pick up some capers for the side delight.
