Lomography Gallery Store Toronto

J’ai connu l’inauguration de la boutique parisienne avec l’équipe de Unilocal Paris et je dois avouer que la boutique de Toronto arrive à la hauteur de mes esperances. Spacieuse et lumineuse Lomo Toronto vous propose un choix divers d’appareils vintages et accessoires en tout genre. Je suis passé pour voir les modèles de Diana en expo et j’y serais bientôt de retour pour en acheter un.
I was there for the launch of the parisian shop with the Unilocal Paris team and I have to admit that the Toronto one has reached my hopes.
With a lot of space and light Lomo Toronto has a lot to offer with a various choice of vintage cameras and many other accessories. I went to the shop to check the Diana they had and I will soon be back to buy one of them.

I was invited on the Diana F+ World tour around Toronto on a Double Decker Bus and used a Lomographic camera for the first time! I Never have I had so much fun with a camera not knowing what I was shooting at: P AND the pictures turned out AMAZINGLY beautiful! The store is amazing… have you SEEN the LOMO Wall!!! I couldn’t believe how many different camera’s there were of different style and «Personality». Lomography has a VERY COOL history which I encourage you to Check out. I believe the Profacy is right… Analogue is Forever: P

I had been meaning to get over to Lomography for a while, but the September Elite event finally pushed me to go. Since then I’ve been back a couple of times.
On my second trip I was picking up my negatives/​scans from the photocrawl at the elite event. After the photocrawl I had decided to pick up a camera, I just wasn’t sure which one. The girl that helped me was really knowledgeable about the various models and helped me narrow down my choice to a couple of models based on what I expected to use the camera for.
On my third trip I needed to pick up some film for my Diana F+ but after asking some questions about accessories I ended up also picking up the SLR adapter so I could try out my Diana lens on my Canon 5D. Lots of fun ahead.
Can’t wait for my 4^th trip back to get my Nuit Blanche and Thanksgiving shots developed.

Lomography is a really neat store. Love how it was set up with all those cool cameras in display…
Personally I guess I am just too spoiled by technology and to see instant results…
Thanks for the staffs being so patient trying to show me how the camera works… but my photos turned out lousy…
I guess I need to come back and take one of those $ 10 «How to take a Lomo photo class!» If I figure out how it is, I think I will get one of those babies. I want that bright RED one! :)

Whoa this place is so cool. We went here looking for a present for a gf who’s into photography and they were open late because there was a band playing a promo-​gig. The atmosphere is like a cool ass loft and the band playing there just felt right. The design and lay out is so awesome that you just wanna buy a toy camera and start taking pictures. There’s a bunch of cool camera’s and accessories along with picture books so you can get an idea of the results of different combos of lens/​films/​flashs.
At first I was like ok… i have an app for that but honestly you become enamoured with this store and you just wanna buy everything and become a photographer. The staff are chilled out and very helpful even if you think a camera is a magic soul capturing box or if you know everythign there is to know they are very unpretencious and will vibe with you. This place is just cool.

I got super lucky when I came by to visit Lomography during my vacation because they were serving free beer and there were some bands playing music!

The selection of camera they had were impressive. It really made me feel like my artsy fartsy self was still inside of me somewhere. Next to each camera was a roll of sample photos (more than 100+) that were taken from the camera itself, which I thought was NEATO and helpful because it’s hard to decide on a camera based on just the info you get from the back of the box.
Gosh, I was soooo tempted to buy a toy camera just from hanging around here! Everything about it was so inspiring. And it was fun to examine the creative mural of photos they had up on the wall. Totally wish there was a store just like this in San Francisco! =)

Over the years I have taken an interest in the world of lomography and had yearned for a place other than a urban outfitters where I could purchase cameras. To my rescue came this store, which is indeed a marvel to behold. This store is the very art of lomography itself manifested into retail outlet form.
As soon as you walk inside you can tell instantly that you are in a place that is truly dedicated strictly to this hobby, which is evident by the fact that the very wallpaper itself is made up of lomography pictures and the store is stocked to the brim with various lomography cameras of all shapes and models. There are also tons of accessories, guide books, types of films, lomo picture books, and even lifestyle items such as lomography tote bags and storage cases. This place is truly a Toronto lomographers dream .
In my experience, this gallery has been a great place to go to check out the merchandise and make purchases, infact I purchased a pinhole camera from that place which of course took quite a bit of time to assemble, as well as extra 35 mm film for whenever my lomo urges arise.
However, today my experience was soiled by a staff member who upon seeing me enter the store, became suspicious of me (The look on her face was one of anxiety, upon my entering of the store). Yes, I am a young black male however I am by no means a hooligan, unfortunately, it would seem that my white/​plaid shirt, well fitting, sag-​less blue jeans, herschel supply co. bag and slip on shoes spelled «potential thief» in the eyes of the staff member who decided it would be appropriate to try and stealthily watch/​follow me as I checked out what was going on/​for sale. She even followed me to the display area where some great Toronto Lomo pictures had been hung up on large sheets for display (which is appropriate cause of course I would try to run out of the store with a piece of bristle board bigger than me… right? :S).
It is a shame that I make sure to support that store instead of buying shitty wannabe lomo cameras from UO and that my love of that place has now been soiled by what may have been a dumbed down version of racial profiling.
Therefore, this place recieves A star from me… and I doubt that my rating will ever increase above 3 stars if I ever feel the need to improve upon it.
Biased yes… but hey, we can’t write reviews without acquirng some sort of bias right?
June 7^th edit: I would like to make clear that I am not at all accusing the store of being racist as a whole for that would be proposterous and I have experienced very gracious and polite services from other employees of the establish however of course, each employees behaviour is still reflective of the establishment as a whole and how it is viewed.
Will I give this lomo store another chance, most likely yes (ordering rolls of film unavailable in regular shops online is much too tedious)…it just won’t be any time soon.

Lomography is a place for people to explore there creative side and open up new doors and windows. Its something that i have yet to see in Toronto and i think that is an amazing concept. Its a photo shop that allows the consumer to fully engage and learn photography.
Me, not a very creative person and tight on the budget, will use this place as a tool to engage me in something exciting and different. They have FREE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES where they teach you everything you need to know, and they also let you borrow a camera to take pics with for this technique session they are teaching, which is awesome!
Its a US based company (i think) that has launched there first Canadian store. The store is wicked and then people are super cool. I highly recommend checking it out!
